The Crest Cap is Melia's default light head armour in Xenoblade Chronicles. She refuses to remove it, as doing so would reveal to the party that she is not Homs. It is later replaced with the Empress Mask, and cannot be reobtained.

Trivia

• While the fact that Melia has wings is clearly supposed to be a surprise later in the story, only the tutorial images use the Crest Cap to hide it (and even then, only in the original version). Melia's head icons for party status, tension, affinity, crafting, gifting, and so on all display her wings from the beginning.
• There exists a mostly unused copy of the Crest Cap, used only during one cutscene. It has 28 instead of the usual 29 physical defence, and different flavour text: "A smart hat made from quality cloth. Melia loves wearing it."
