Aegis An Aegis is a type of Blade in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Torna ~ The Golden Country. They are especially powerful Blades created by the Architect. The name Aegis comes from Indol's most sacred treasure, said to embody the divine revelations its founder received from the Architect. Malos destroys it and decides to be called by the same name, as he too was born from divinity. ==Characteristics== Aegises have all the characteristics of other Blades: they have a Core Crystal on their chest and use it to manifest a weapon to their Driver to fight alongside them in battle. However, they are notably more powerful than any normal Blade, and are unique in several other ways. The most noticeable is their Core Crystal: it is shaped like a cross and a colour other than blue, both of which are the main way for the general public to identify them as special. Aside from the Core Crystal, they are entirely indistinguishable from a normal human in appearance, continuing the pattern of stronger Blades appearing more human. Aegises can themselves be Drivers of other Blades, something which it is unknown whether a normal Blade can do. Aegises also contain the knowledge and data of all other Blades, allowing them to restore minor damage to Core Crystals. Uniquely, Aegises do not return to their core upon their Driver's death. Being Blades born of resonance with a human and a Trinity Processor core, they are capable of controlling Artifices at will, provided their Core is not damaged. They can also survive with a damaged core, at the cost of their power, and can even live a short time completely deprived of their core, as stated by Malos and as shown by Pneuma. There are only two Aegises in the world of Alrest: Mythra, who can swap forms between herself and Pyra, and Malos. Both are known as "the Aegis" at varying points of Alrest's history, as their goals and whims reshape the known world with ease. This is due to only two Trinity Cores remaining within the physical Trinity Processor aboard Rhadamanthus Spaceport; Logos and Pneuma, and both were instantiated into Blades by humans living in Alrest. ==Story== ===History=== Before the world of Alrest came into being, Klaus was researching the Conduit on the Beanstalk, hoping to create a new world. While Galea tried to stop him, she failed, and he brought two new worlds to life - Alrest and the world of the Bionis and Mechonis. On the Beanstalk was the Trinity Processor, containing three AI - Ontos, Logos and Pneuma. The separation of the worlds also separated the three AI. Ontos went to the Bionis and became a being called Alvis while Logos and Pneuma went to Alrest, becoming the Blades Malos and Mythra respectively. ===Torna ~ The Golden Country=== 500 years before the story of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in Torna ~ The Golden Country, Amalthus climbed the World Tree, searching for Elysium. While he failed in his search for the fabled land, he did find two Core Crystals. One belonged to Malos, and the other belonged to Mythra. Because of his life's experiences, Amalthus created a Blade with strong hatred towards humanity when he resonated with Malos. Malos soon went berserk, causing havoc, destroying a major Titan, Coeia, marking the beginning of the Aegis War. In order to combat Malos, the Indoline Praetorium chose one of the Kingdom of Torna's princes to become the second Driver of the Aegis, in order to put an end to Malos's rampage. Its fourth prince, Addam, ends up being the one to successfully resonate with the crystal, after High Prince Zettar fails to do so. While he did stop Malos, the cost was the fall of the Tornan titan into the Cloud Sea. After the battle. Mythra has sealed herself away and put an alternative consciousness - Pyra - in her place. ===Xenoblade Chronicles 2=== In the inner chambers of the Ancient Ship, as Rex begins to resonate with Pyra, he is killed by Jin. In order to revive him, Pyra gives half of her life force to Rex, making him the next Aegis Driver in the process. They make it their goal to find Elysium and the Architect and to stop Torna, whose notable members include Jin and Malos, who formed the Torna organization. During a battle with Torna, Mythra reawakens in order to save Rex's life. After the battle, Pyra reveals to the party that Malos is another Aegis. On their journey to stop Malos's rampage once more, they had several run-ins with Torna and others who desire her power. Eventually, Rex becomes the Master Driver and Pyra and Mythra awakens again as Pneuma, her true form. However, with this Pyra and Mythra open up to Rex. They were afraid of their own power and wanted to ask the Architect to end their life, and that they were manipulating Rex into helping them. Rex says he doesn't think that matters, as what matters is where they are now. Together, they stop Malos as he begins his rampage, killing him once and for all, at the cost of Pneuma's life. In the post-credits scene, Pyra and Mythra reawaken as separate Blades, remembering Rex as they travel to the new land the Architect sent the Titans to. <!--Do not add any XC3/FR content.
