Zeon (ゼオン), also known as Dutiful Zeon is a Hero in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. He is a soldier from Keves and the Commander of Colony 9.
Appearance and personality[edit]
Zeon has short light brown hair swept in a counter-clockwise motion. He has very small light brown wings atop his head resembling the wings of High Entia. He has green eyes with defined bottom eyelashes. He wears an open short black vest with glowing blue stripes over the sleeves and brass and black shoulder pads, over a black outfit with a chestplate and the same glowing blue stripes over the legs. In battle, he wields a Blade resembling a blue sword and a matching shield with wings imagery called the Gutsy Gladius.
Zeon has a calm and serious personality, taking his duties to heart. Despite the appearances, he lacks confidence, often faltering and questioning his actions, until he learned the importance of failing and starting anew from the party. He is more prone to emotion that he first appears, showing a passionate interest in gardening and cultivating Spongy Spuds for Colony 9, and very often having a banter with Lanz, around whom he struggles to stay completely collected. He is also good friends with Noah.
Story arc[edit]
Main story[edit]
Zeon is present during Colony 9's battle against Colony Sigma at Everblight Plain. He can be seen riding into battle on top of an Equites-type Levnis.
Before the mission to Alfeto Valley starts, he advises Noah, Eunie, and Lanz to stay vigilant. The Consul comes all the way to Colony 9 to discuss with the commander making him think the mission isn't an ordinary one.
When Noah, Eunie, and Lanz are labeled traitors and the Colony 9 commander is forced to take the fall for their actions, Consul B appoints Zeon as the new commander.
Where the Heart Is[edit]
Later, the party hears rumors of Colony 9 being surrounded by Agnian forces and comes back to defend it. On their way, they're intercepted by Zeon, who orders their arrest. Their fight is interrupted by a report of an Agnian battalion attacking Colony 9. After a moment of hesitation, Zeon decides to allow Noah and the others to join him to defend Colony 9 and brings them back with him to Colony 9 Command, where Kite updates them on the Agnian soldiers' movements. Kite and Zeon clash about how to deal with the situation, until Kite storms out of the room, angry at his commander's decision to integrate Noah and his companions into their forces. Zeon then exposes his plan to the party, sending them as the vanguard against Agnus, under his personal supervision.
On their way to Everblight Plain, Eunie reminisces on how Zeon used to be someone who support people who try their hardest and help people in need. Zeon says he understands they must have their reasons for rebelling against the Colony, but he can never be the friend he once was to them. Noah retorts not being able to go back to how it was doesn't mean they cannot build something new. Before the battle begins, Zeon warns he will be too busy fighting for Colony 9 to look out for possible deserters, implying he won't come after Noah and the others if they choose to take the opportunity to escape. This makes Lanz angry, and he, Eunie, and Noah reaffirm their wish to fight for Colony 9, no matter what Zeon thinks of them. They head into battle, fighting off the Agnus Strike Force until their captain is defeated. Zeon allows the Agnian survivors to escape, and the Agnus captain criticizes his decision as too soft for war before dying, warning Zeon he'll learn that lesson the hard way. His words strike a chord in Zeon, who recalls saying a similar thing to Noah in the past.
On their way back to Colony 9, Noah explains all they've learned about the Consuls and the Flame Clock to Zeon. Upon arriving at the Colony, they are met by Consul B, who comments on Zeon's good work and mocks the deserters, as well as the soldiers who died for nothing. Angered by his words, Zeon defends the party when the Consul attacks them, then counterattacks and gives Noah an opening to destroy the Colony 9 Flame Clock. Consul B transforms into Moebius B and is soon defeated by Zeon and the party. Zeon then explains everything he has learned from Noah to Kite and the rest of Colony 9 and asks them to give Noah and the others a chance. Most of them agree, but Kite storms off, claiming he is the only one fit to be the commander. Zeon doesn't take offense, believing in Kite's wish for the good of Colony 9. He then exposes his plan for the future of the colony, starting with solving the food shortage by making fields to grow their own food supply. He knows it will be difficult and that people won't trust him easily, but he doesn't care about what others think about him as long as he can carry out his duty. He thanks Noah and the others for their help and offers to lend them his support whenever they need it.
Reasons to Evolve[edit]
Colony 9's attempts at growing its own crops aren't going too well. All they manage to grow are Emetaters; spuds that are causing many Colony 9 soldiers to be ill. Due to Colony Tau being able to successfully grow plenty of vegetables, Mio asks Juniper for counsel. Zeon and the party head for Colony Tau, followed by Kite. There, Zeon admires the plentiful crops of Colony Tau and explains Colony 9's problems to Juniper. The Agnian Commander shows him a Spongy Spud, which is edible and should grow nicely in Colony 9. While Juniper is showing it to Kite, Zeon borrows the spud and takes a bite from it. He approves of the sweet taste of the spud, earning himself a snarky comment from Lanz about cooking his vegetables before eating them.
Full of new gardening knowledge, Zeon and the others go back to Colony 9 to apply it. They start by checking the soil and soon realize their current fields are not planted in good soil. They search for a new location and plant potato seeds there, helped by Kite, Eastman, Trish, and Fox. But the first batch rotted after being over-watered by Fox. They try again, successfully growing spuds this time, thanks to Url's help with a fertilizer. However, some of the plants then start wiltering, infected by an illness called the Black Rot. They remove the infected spuds to limit its spreading, and head to Colony Tau to report to Juniper. The farming veteran approves of their reaction, then asks if they have someone watching the fields for predators.
Realizing their mistake, Zeon and the others go back to Colony 9 to find the Spongy Spud Patch attacked by Ropls. Kite is already in the fields, fighting back alone. Together, they defeat the monsters, and Kite apologizes, for failing to stop the Ropls before they could damage the spuds, and for doubting Juniper, and Zeon's plans. Zeon tells him he is a good man, better than all of them were willing to admit until now and promises to make an effort in the future to remind Kite he is important to Colony 9.
Sidequest appearances[edit]
- Zeon is required to be in the party for the quest Lean Times in Colony 9
To help with Colony 9's shortages, Zeon and the party decide to follow Riku's idea and go to gather supplies on old battlefields. They bring it back to Camilla at the commissary, who gratefully accepts the much-needed supplies. But Kite intercepts them, angered at the idea that Zeon might have gone looting other colonies despite forbidding his soldiers to do so. Zeon explains the truth of the situation, and as Camilla takes his side, Kite can only leave after warning Zeon he isn't the only one unhappy with his way of doing things.
- Zeon is required to be in the party for the quest For Colony 9
Discussing with the party, Zeon informs them that Kite has left Colony 9 with a few soldiers in tow. The two of them have argued about how to deal with an Agnus colony advancing in Millick Meadows. But Zeon worries for Kite, who is nowhere to be seen. He asks for the party's help in finding him, and they decide to ask Fox for intel. They eventually find Kite hiding inside the Wraiths' Void cave, where Zeon tries talking to him. They are interrupted by Agnus Scouts attacking them, and to Kite's surprise, Zeon and the party join the fight. Soon after they defeat them, Keves forces infiltrate the cave and shoot down Colony 9 soldiers, pointing them as traitors to Keves Castle. They defeat them and Noah sees off the fallen Colony 9 soldiers. Zeon then tries to talk with Kite again, explaining he needs his support to help Colony 9. This time, his words go through, and Kite agrees to come back to Colony 9 and help.
Other appearances[edit]
Zeon also makes an appearance in the Quest, Colony 9's Backup.
Zeon can be among the recruited Heroes to aid the party in the final battle against Z, declaring that he won't be defeated as he is summoned. After Z's defeat, Zeon can be seen on the Kevesi side as Aionios splits back into the two worlds it was created from.
