Xeno Series Wiki:Deletion policy
Not all pages on the wiki necessarily belong on the wiki. Maybe a page was created that shouldn't have been, a template has become obsolete, or a user has uploaded needless images. These things should be deleted in order to keep the wiki clean.
This deletion policy outlines the details of deleting pages.
Deletion process[edit]
To mark a page for deletion, add this to the top:
{{delete|reason}}
If the thing to be deleted is a template, be sure to surround the delete tag in noinclude tags as well, as otherwise it will show up on all pages the template is used:
<noinclude>{{delete|reason}}</noinclude>(rest of contents go here, *without* a new line)
When a page is marked for deletion, users are encouraged to discuss whether they agree or disagree on the relevant talkpage. If the result of the discussion is to delete, an administrator will carry out the deletion; if the result is to keep, the delete tag can be removed by any user.
Guidelines[edit]
A good rule of thumb when deciding whether to mark a page for deletion is: Can this be salvaged? If so, try to improve it instead. If not, suggest its deletion.
Things that should be marked for deletion[edit]
- Pages that have no relevance to the Xeno series.
- Pages that are jokes or nonsense, or otherwise make no attempt to be informational on a relevant subject.
- Pages that are entirely blank, spam, advertising, or gibberish.
- Pages that only duplicate information that already exists elsewhere.
- Pages at incorrect titles where the page already exists at the correct title.
- Pages that have been recreated after being deleted previously, and no good reason has been given for recreation.
- Templates that have been replaced by an improved variant.
- User pages of IP address/made by anonymous users. Only users with accounts may have user pages.
- User pages if the user in question wants it deleted.
Things that should not be marked for deletion[edit]
- Pages that are just stubs, incomplete, out of date, or in need of cleanup. Instead of deletion, improve them.
- There is a difference between a page that's a "stub" and a page that is "no effort". If it appears a page was created simply so it exists, not filling in any info or structure aside from one or two sentences, that isn't grounds to keep it.
- Pages that are the only page in a group of pages that should but do not yet exist. Instead of deleting the one page, create the other pages.
- Pages that are just short. A short page can still be a complete and useful page.
- Pages that contain duplicate information but also contain extra details or a different viewpoint. Maybe the organization of the pages with this info can be improved, but in the meantime, deleting any of it is a bad move.
