Consul T, better known as Triton is a Hero in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. He is the Consul of Colony 15 as well as its Commander. He is also known as Defiant Triton.

Appearance and personality

As with all Consuls, Triton wears the red armor and black cape albeit with a jabot-like decoration on the chest. His helmet resembles a captain's hat. Underneath the helmet, Triton has silver hair tied in a ponytail, a bushy beard, and red eyes. It is unknown what his Moebius form looks like as he forgot how to transform. In battle, Triton uses the Mimic Knuckles.

Triton is a man of the sea, and regularly and loudly proclaims it but he's forgetful. Unlike other Moebius, Triton is friendly and carefree, even to the party who are Ouroboros. He is willing to go against Moebius's goals such as requesting the party to destroy Colony 15's Flame Clock despite being a Moebius himself. Triton is even willing to oppose Z as seen during the final battle.

Story arc

Doing it My Way

Triton first encounters the party during the quest Doing It My Way, after they followed his Ferronis to Hargan Point. He greets them, much to the party's surprise, asking them out to eat together. As they talk, Triton reveals that he is both Colony 15's Consul and its commander. Despite Triton's friendliness, Lanz stays wary and hostile to him, arguing that they cannot trust a Moebius. However, Triton soon taunts him and Taion into partaking in a "Men of the Sea: Triton's Triple Challenge", turning the hostility in a game. The party will form one team, while Triton teams up with Torto, Orson and Pergas. His lieutenant Api explains the rules: each team must travel to three islands around the Colony's vicinity to receive and complete each challenge.

The first challenge, "Men of the Sea: The Brawny Deep", is hosted by Ronja at Ishan Isle. It consists of defeating four Gyaarks around the island as fast as possible. The party wins, and they all head to Daedal Isle for the next challenge.

The second challenge, "Men of the Sea: Booty Calls", is hosted by Lhukavu and consists of finding the most valuable "booty" on the island. Unfamiliar with the word, the party discusses what could qualify as booty and eventually collects a Yum-Yum Coconut, an Ancient Taos Fossil, and a Millennial Tree Amber. Lhukavu make them choose a single item, ending the challenge in either a draw or a win for the party, causing Triton to protest and argue that his own Yum-Yum Coconut is better than the party's booty, but Lhukavu is inflexible. They then all head to Cape Arcaphor for the final challenge.

The third and final challenge consists of defeating an Archaphor Gogol, which the party defeats first. Triton being nowhere to be seen, they return to Colony 15.

As Api is about to crown the party winners, Triton refuses to accept his defeat and challenges them to a "Man of the Sea: Triton's Triple Challenge: Part Four", contradicting the previous rules of a "triple" challenge, and decides the reward of this final fist-fight will be enough points for him to topple the party's score. Fed up, Lanz turns away, giving an opening to Triton to start the fight with a "Man of the Sea's Sucker Punch". The party defeats him anyway, finally satisfying his craving for entertainment.

As the party asks him why he didn't transform into Moebius, Triton reveals that he has lived so long, he has forgotten how to do so. He then requests the party to destroy Colony 15's Flame Clock, setting his comrades free. He removes his helmet to watch Noah and Mio destroy the Flame Clock, revealing his face for the first time. Flame Clock destroyed, Triton explains that he has tried to do it himself before, to no avail, and eventually gave up - until he heard about Ouroboros. He tells them about the lives and friendships he has seen come and go, always tied up to the Flame Clocks he came to despise. He concludes his story by inviting himself into the party, to which they find themselves with no actual objection.

My Memories

Triton's Ascension Quest, My Memories, is available after cooking Manana's Battle Soup and discussing Manana's Cooking with Triton.

While the party is resting at the Hillside Ferronis Hulk, Triton cuts off Taion as he is trying to discuss their next destination. He vaguely remembers his journey through the world with an eccentric man, before that man handed him an important item. Though he can't remember where they went together, he recalls leaving his handprints as a mark of their visit. Noah accepts to keep an eye out for these marks.

They find the first handprint at Melnath's Pass, Lower. As Triton reminisces, a Memorial Ropl attacks them. Once it is defeated, Triton remembers another location, around the Great Cotte Falls. There, he recalls opening the hole in the cliff near the Colony Lambda Ferronis, bit by bit, when he was bored. As he reminisces, a Carrion Clique of Rhoguls attacks them. Once they are defeated, Triton begins to get a little fed up with not finding anything, but seems to recall something at the Syra Hovering Reefs. There, as they still find nothing, Triton comes to accept he can't keep dragging the party along on these searches, wasting their short time. He remembers how his old friend died, eaten by a monster, when that same Memorial Ekidno appears and attacks the party. Defeated, it drops a pot containing miso paste, and Triton finally remembers how he and his friend traveled the world to gather ingredients to prepare the perfect miso, until an Ekidno attacked them, killing his friend. Though the miso had been entrusted to Triton, it was taken by the Ekidno, until it was finally retrieved with the help of the party. Grateful for their help, he offers them to taste that legendary miso - if they behave.

Other appearances

• Triton is required to be in the party for the quest A Young Noble's Request.

As Triton is walking in the City with the party, they are interrupted by Shiner, who comes with a request for Ouroboros. He wants them to search for a squad of scavenging Lost Numbers, lead by his father, Playne, that isn't coming home from their mission at Cape Arcaphor. Triton accepts the request before the party can even protest, and they all head out together. At Cape Arcaphor, they stumble upon Colony 15 soldiers fighting off Agnus soldiers, and rush to their help. It soon turns out that they were helping the missing Lost Numbers, believing they were Kevesi. However, Playne decides he can't let people who saw the Lost Numbers' faces go freely, and takes everyone back to the City. The Colony 15 soldiers are offered food and a place to stay, and are used as hostages to ensure Triton's good will toward the City.

• Other appearances

Triton can be among the recruited Heroes to aid the party in the final battle against Z, declaring that this is his final battle, and that he wanted to make it a battle for the ages as he is summoned. After Z's defeat, Triton's fate is unknown as he is not seen among the other Heroes as Aionios splits back into the two worlds it was created from.
