The Thames Captain is a character from Xenogears. He is the captain of the salvaging ship Thames.

Appearance and Personality[edit]

The Captain of the Thames is a demi-human who resembles a walrus. He wears a a red overcoat, a red hat captain's hat and has a pipe sticking out of his mouth. He has a false leg, which was a result of his time as a pirate as a youth. He is a friendly individual who loves to drink and use big guns. He is a man of the sea, and regularly and loudly proclaims it.

Story arc[edit]

The Thames Captain leads the Thames, a giant docking craft that performs salvage operations in the Aquvy region. When Fei and Elly are stranded at sea after the Goliath crashes, he arranges for them to be rescued and welcomes them aboard. Throughout various parts of the game after this, Fei and the others come back to visit the Thames and the Captain. This includes when the Thames is attacked by Wels as well as while searching for the third Gate that keeps Solaris hidden.

Eventually the Thames is destroyed in an attack by Deus' Angels The Captain stays aboard the Thames to fight them off and is feared dead. However after the party comes across Hans in the Snowfield Hideout he appears and is revealed to be still alive. He talks about his discovery of an island with buried treasure, Duneman Isle, which can be visited as a sidequest near the end of the game.
