Skills are elements of combat in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Future Redeemed. They are passive effects that increase a character's capabilities.
Overview[edit]
Skills are intricately tied with Classes. Each Class comes with a set of several Skills (almost always four) which are necessarily equipped by all members of that Class. In most cases, the power of the Skill is tied to the upgrade rank of the Class: Skills become more powerful when reaching rank 5, 10, 15, and 20.
The set of Skills available to the Hero of a particular Class may be slightly different from that available to the main 6 party members. For example, Positioning Pro is only available to the main party, whereas Precision Shot is only available to Gray.
Master Skills[edit]
When a character reaches rank 5 or rank 15 in a Class, they typically "master" a specific skill of that class. Master Skills are not limited to the original Class; once mastered, they can be equipped on almost any Class. Up to three Master Skills can be equipped at once.
Only the main 6 party members can use Master Skills; Heroes cannot.
Soulhacker Skills[edit]
The Soulhacker Class functions differently to the others. Master Skills from other Classes cannot be used in this Class. Instead, Soulhackers have access to three types of skills. The first, Role Skills, change the character's Role and stat modifiers. There are 6 Role Skills, and only one can be active at a time.
The second, Soul Hack, is the only Master Skill, mastered at rank 10; when a unique monster is defeated while a character has Soul Hack equipped, they will gain a special Battle Art or Skill which can then be used by any non-Hero Soulhacker.
The third type consists of Skills learnt using Soul Hack. Up to three of these may be equipped at once. They have only two upgrade levels, in comparison to the ordinary 5; to upgrade them, the party must meet a condition specific to each Skill. Once a Skill is upgraded once, all non-Hero Soulhackers will be able to use the upgraded version of the Skill.
The Class's Hero, Triton, does not learn Skills in this way, and instead uses a set of four which upgrade like normal.
Inoswap[edit]

Ino uses a special version of the Noponic Champion Class which upgrades Skills differently from the main party members. Each Skill and its upgrades are available for purchase in the Inoswap menu for a certain number of HD Ether Cylinders+. Only two upgrades are available per Skill; the three upgrade levels correspond to the rank 1, rank 10, and rank 20 versions of the Skills as used by the main party.
Inoswap also features a collection of "generic Skills" which, while treated like Skills internally, do not have unique names and have only very basic effects (primarily stat increases).
Ouroboros Skills[edit]
Ouroboros, similarly, obtain and upgrade Skills by purchasing them on the Soul Tree for SP. Four Skills are available to each Ouroboros form, each with one upgrade.
Ouroboros forms can share up to two Skills with their Interlink partner's Ouroboros form (although only one can be shared before the character of the Ouroboros form in question completes their Ascension Quest).
The generic stat increases on a Soul Tree (including the node which unlocks Arts Canceling) are also treated as Skills internally, though they do not appear on an Ouroboros form's list of Skills.
In Future Redeemed[edit]
In Future Redeemed, Skills work similarly to those in Inoswap. Each playable character (corresponding directly to a Class) has four ordinary Skills, and they can be upgraded up to two times by purchasing upgrades on the Affinity Growth chart for AP. In addition to these, each character has a collection of Skills with only one upgrade level, which much be purchased on the Affinity Chart, and a further collection of generic stat increase Skills available for purchase.
Unity Skills[edit]

When two characters are put together in a Unity Pair, they each gain a particular passive Skill called a Unity Skill. Typically this only applies to the characters in the pair, although for some the entire party gains the Skill's effects. (These party-wide Skills are almost all specified as being such in the description text, with All But Fatal being the main exception.) Unity Skills can be upgraded once each, by acquiring the relevant Lessons in Unity volume.
Other notes[edit]
- Lucky Seven (Attacker), (Defender), and (Healer) cannot use Master Skills; any Skills used before Unlimited Sword is activated will have no effect while it is active.
- Each Defender class has a skill which affects all allies within a certain radius, similar to a permanent Field effect centred on the Defender. These do not affect the Defender in question, and each ally can only be affected by one at a time.
- The order in which these zone effects take priority is the standard playable character order: Noah > Mio > Eunie > Taion > Lanz > Sena > Heroes, in decreasing order of priority.
- The relative priority order of Heroes during the Archsage's Gauntlet is not known. It is believed to likely be the internal ordering of playable characters (see the CHR_PC data table).
