Siren

Siren is an Artifice and a major element in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Torna ~ The Golden Country. Both Aegises have their own Siren: Mythra uses a white Siren, while Malos uses a black one.

Appearance[edit]

Mythra's Siren is a humanoid mech with four green wings, a crowned head, two appendages that can formed into a cannon. Siren has an Aegis-shape core on its chest and a golden halo above its head. Malos's Siren is similar to Mythra's except it's a black color, a sharper appearance a its head has a singular horn, and its Aegis core is purple, same as Malos's.

Story[edit]

During the Aegis War, Malos used his Siren to destroy Titans, while Mythra would often use her Siren's power without restraint - something which her companions often criticized her for. When the party confronts Malos at the Kingdom of Torna's capital, Auresco, he admits that he got bored of using Siren for destruction, and decided to instead destroy Torna by awakening its true form and sending his Gargoyles to unleash its energy all at once.

During the battle at The Soaring Rostrum, both Malos and Mythra called upon their Sirens to do battle. After a brief scuffle, Malos urges Mythra to use her full power; when she refuses, he promptly uses his Siren to destroy Auresco. Horrified, Mythra unleashes a portion of Pneuma's power to attack Malos relentlessly before they both enter their respective Sirens to continue fighting, despite Addam's objections. Eventually, Mythra manages to destroy Malos' Siren, sending them both plummeting into the Cloud Sea, but the aftershocks of their battle destroys Torna's core, causing it to sink into the Cloud Sea as well.

When Mythra reawakens at Olethro Ruins in an effort to protect Rex from Malos and Akhos, she uses Siren's power to kill both of their Blades, Sever and Obrona.

While the party is battling Patroka and Mikhail at the Ardainian Factory, Mythra uses Siren's power again to kill their respective Blades, Perdido, and Cressidus, enraging Patroka, and forcing the duo to retreat.

Later when the party is confronted by Jin at Genbu Crown, Rex and Mythra attempt to use Siren's power, but Jin, using his true form (which has the power to control all elementary particles), is able to deflect its particle cannon. Jin overpowers the two, and Mythra reverts back to Pyra. As Jin is about kill Rex by removing the Core Crystal that is supporting his life, Pyra uses her willpower to control Siren and threatens to commit suicide with its targeting ray if he doesn't spare Rex's life, prompting Jin to back off. Pyra releases control of Siren and is taken by Jin.

At Gotrock Oracle Ruins, after Pyra and Mythra fuse into Pneuma and defeat Jin, Malos summons Ophion to attack the party; Siren intervenes and does battle with Ophion, resulting the defeat of Ophion as well as the destruction of a portion of Gotrock Oracle Ruins.

As the party climbs the World Tree, Amalthus takes control of Mythra using Haze's Core Crystal and attempts to force her to use Siren to destroy Torna, but she resists. Ultimately, Amalthus loses control of her when Rex and Pneuma (with Poppi's help) are able to use Siren's power to destroy the amplification towers on Indol.

In the year 20XX, several Echelon Siren models are engaged over the First Low Orbit Station against the Saviorite rebels. The rebels manage to destroy a number of Sirens, prompting the director of the station to give the order to activate Artifice Aion through the Conduit; however, he is locked out by professor Klaus, who instead uses the Conduit in his experiment to create a new universe.

Several Siren models along with several Gargoyle models are seen attacking Alrest's nations as Malos prepares to take control of Aion to destroy Alrest. Ultimately, just as the Conduit disappears, Rex and Pneuma manage to use Siren's power one last time to defeat Aion. With the Conduit gone, every Artifice ceases to function and begins to fall to Alrest.

Several Echelon Siren models appear in a flashback in Future Redeemed during A's narration of human nature while on board The Ark.

As a gameplay element[edit]

The party and Malos's Siren Gauges on the top left and right of the screen, respectively

In Torna ~ The Golden Country, exclusively during the second phase of the final battle with Malos, the party's Party Gauge is replaced by the Siren Gauge. As a consequence, Chain Attacks cannot be used while the Siren Gauge is displayed. The Siren Gauge charges and behaves similarly to the Party Gauge, by dealing damage to Malos, dealing Critical hits, and doing a Driver Combo. Moreover, its charge is affected by the Custom difficulty's Party Gauge charge setting. Malos possesses his own Siren Gauge, opposite from the party's on the screen.

The Siren Gauge has three sections, one of which can still be used to revive an incapacitated ally. Once all three sections are charged, Siren is able to use an Artifice Art, by pressing the "+" button. Artifice Arts get stronger each time they are used, up to level IV, after which Chain Attacks will become available once again. If Mythra's Artifice uses an Artifice Art, it will knock Malos's Siren down near the boss battle's arena, locking his Siren Gauge for a short time. Mythra's Siren will shoot at Malos, dealing damage to him and inflicting him with Blowdown. Malos is able to do the same with his Siren, though the effects will be directed at the party and no Blowdown will be inflicted.

In the event that Malos wins the showdown, by having his Siren use its fourth Artifice Art, the Party Gauge will still reappear, albeit in a locked state until Mythra's Siren gets back up. Once the Siren that lost gets back up, the battle between them will resume, with them both locking hands, at a much closer distance from the arena than before.

Mythra must be in the party in order to use Artifice Arts. If Team Addam is removed from the party by using the "Change Order" menu, Artifice Arts cannot be used, even if the Siren Gauge is completely full.

Artifice Arts[edit]

Each Artifice Art has its own animation, shared by both Sirens. If Mythra's Siren's Artifice Art is used, the point of view will generally be of it going on the attack. On the other hand, if Malos's Siren uses its Artifice Art, the point of view will generally be of Mythra's Siren attempting to defend against it.

  • Artifice Art I: The attacking Siren shoots at the defending one, which defends with a shield, before slashing at it, sending it flying downward to the arena.
  • Artifice Art II: The attacking Siren fires a beam at the defending one, shattering its shield, before stabbing it with a spear, sending it flying downward to the arena.
  • Artifice Art III: The attacking Siren dual wields its spears, slashing multiple times against the defending one's shield, ending with a cross slash, before it throws one of the spears at the other Siren, projecting it down to the arena.
    • The thrown spear will embed itself in the arena, producing a shockwave that inflicts Blowdown to both Malos and the party, regardless of which Siren used the Artifice Art. The spear stays embeded in the arena for the rest of the battle.
  • Artifice Art IV: The attacking Siren fires a beam similarly to Artifice Art II's, then starts glowing in a similar fashion to a Blade and Driver at max Affinity, powering up the beam significantly. The beam powers the defending Siren's shield, sending it flying downward to the arena.
