The sixth chapter of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Wounds, looks at the pains of a hidden country and its ancestors, both old and new.

This page is divided into sections based on the Events Theater. Scenes not in the Events Theater (such as story quests or unvoiced dialogue) are shown as italic headers and given unofficial titles.

Jin and Lora's Resonance[edit]

A flashback plays. There's a swirling mass of energy inside a building. The person inside the energy looks up to see a scared little girl. The perspective then changes to show that this is Jin, presumably just being awakened from his Core Crystal. The crystal in his sword's hilt is blue, rather than the red seen in the present. He slowly stands up in front of the girl.
Angry voice
Y-you little scamp!
The scene turns around to see a man and woman sitting on a bed. The man gets up.
Angry man
(advancing and yelling)
Do you know how much
the core you took was worth?!
The camera looks at Jin's face as the man presumably backhands the girl. He silently judges the situation.
Angry man
I stole it from the castle!
Three years it took me to get it... And now...!
He slams the nearby furniture in anger as the girl cowers, before stepping over to the bedside table and picking up a knife. The woman freaks out and grabs his arm.
Woman
Please! She's barely ten years old!
Angry man
Silence! Stay out of it!
He pushes her away back on to the bed, then walks back up to the girl.
Angry man
If you die, it'll be as good as new. You brought this on yourself...!
He raises the knife. The woman cowers on the bed as a slash is heard. Jin then suddenly appears in frame.
Angry man
Aaaaaaargh-!
Jin replaces his sword on his back as the man screams and falls, as does his arm holding the knife. While not seen clearly, the implication is strong that Jin cut his right arm off. Jin walks up to the still-terrified girl.
Jin
From now on, I'll protect you.
She slowly looks up. Jin's crouched down.
Jin
I'll keep you safe, always...
He reaches out to gently touch her cheek.
Jin
My name is Jin. What's yours?
Only now is the Core Crystal in Jin's forehead visible. Like his sword, it's blue. He takes the girl's hand and helps her up.
Girl
...Lora.
This confirms that Lora was Jin's Driver. The relationship, and differences, between him and Fan la Norne (or is it "Haze"?) just got weirder.
The flashback ends. Jin wakes up in some sort of recovery pod that has been covering him in green light. Malos walks up.
Malos
It seems like sending Akhos was the right choice...
A wall of Core Crystals visible in the background reveals they are in the Torna base. The pod opens, and the green mist fades. Jin sits up.
Malos
You all right?
Jin
I've been through worse. I can handle it.
Malos
Jin... I swear I'll make your dream come true. So stop putting yourself at risk.
Jin
There's...still...time.
Malos
Is that...part of your dream, too?
The scene glances over Lora's frozen body in the room. Jin doesn't answer.
Malos
What are we, in the end?
This hunger I feel, this thirst... Is it really my own?
Or is it someone else's?
Sometimes I can't tell...
Tell me, Jin...
Are you really "here"?
I don't know... where I really am.
Jin
You're starting to sound like a human.
Malos
Oh yeah?
Jin
Perhaps we're not so different after all...
Humans and Blades...
A Urayan Titan ship docks at Indol. An important-looking person and her entourage are met by Indol people. She looks to the side to see an Ardainian ship arriving, from which Emperor Niall and Aegaeon step off.
Off the docks, the Urayan fleet sits idle. A trio of generic soldiers converse on the deck.
Soldier 1
What's the deal with this ceasefire?
Soldier 2
A tribunal, it looks like. Praetor Amalthus is here in person.
And who's gonna argue with the Praetor?
Soldier 1
Does he have any clue how many men we lost...?!
If those Ardainians get away with this... Architect damn it!
Soldier 3
Quit yer grumblin', mate. All this is way beyond our pay grade.
Soldier 2
You got that right. We're all just faceless cannon fodder to the bigwigs. CO says jump, we jump.

An Unhappy Return[edit]

The party of Rex, Gramps, Mythra, Nia, Dromarch, Tora, Poppi, Mòrag, Brighid, Zeke, and Pandoria is back in Indol themselves.
Zeke
Morning, folks. Everyone sleep well?
Rex
Not a wink...
Zeke
Figured as much.
Let's take a nice walk over to the hall where the emergency summit's being held. Clear our heads a little.
Someone's gotta escort Mòrag over there, right?
Mòrag
I think I would be perfectly capable of finding my own way...
Zeke
And Mythra's meant to be attending too, right?
Mythra
Apparently, yes.
Zeke
See? We might as well all head over.
Rex
I guess you're right... Let's go, then.

Summit Arrival[edit]

The group gets to the door leading to the Praetor's Study. Senelo is guarding it.
Senelo
Through here is the venue for the summit of nations.
I must apologize, but entry is forbidden to all but the official representatives of each nation.
Nia
I guess this is as far as we go.
Mòrag
Yes... Brighid and I will proceed to the summit.
Zeke
I'm coming with you.[1]
And so are you, Mythra. Remember?
Mythra
I guess...
I'm not sure I like it, but I suppose I have to play my part in all this.
Rex, you head back to our chambers with the others and wait for us.
Nia
No problems!
Rex
Be careful in there, OK, Mythra?
Mythra
Don't worry. I'll handle this just fine.

The Rulers' Congress[edit]

At the head of the long table in the study sits Amalthus. On his right sit Niall and Mòrag, with Aegaeon standing behind them. On his left sits the Urayan woman, with two of her aides standing behind her. Niranira is also here, a few seats down from her.
Amalthus
My deepest thanks to you for agreeing to this ceasefire, Queen Raqura, Emperor Niall.
Raqura
As I recall from the Osirian Treaty of 350 years ago...
the Praetorium was to refrain from intervention in times of war.
And yet here you are, intervening.
But I trust you have a suitable justification, Your Eminence?
Amalthus
Naturally.
But first, to ensure impartiality in these negotiations,
may I present Niranira, Acting Chairman of the Argentum Trade Guild.
Furthermore, representing the Tantalese...
Zeke walks in.
Amalthus
His Highness the Crown Prince Ozychlyrus Brounev Tantal will also be attending.
One of Raqura's aides is very surprised about this.
Sorenghe Pattoy[2]
The Crown Prince?! The prodigal prince of Tantal...
Mòrag smirks and chuckles.
Outside, Mikhail and Patroka are on a roof, looking at the docked Urayan and Ardainian ships.
Mikhail
What a spectacle... Seems the Praetor has as much clout around here as ever.
Patroka
Could we not just take them out here and now?
Mikhail
Good point. All the principal nations' heads gathered here...
It'd make things easy later.
Akhos
The way to the World Tree must first be opened.
Akhos walks up from behind them.
Akhos
Wiping out mankind is the easy part. We could manage that ourselves.
Patroka
Even so...
Akhos
That isn't our only goal, remember? We must wait for the stage to be set.
Patroka
Is Jin serious about this?
Mikhail
Yeah, I've been wondering that myself...
Akhos
Heh. Oh, he's serious. He always is.[3]
He will annihilate mankind. And then...
he will kill the Architect.
Back inside, Zeke has sat opposite Niranira, on Mòrag's side of the table.
Amalthus
Now, it seems Mor Ardain has been accused of a unilateral breach of treaty in this matter.
Emperor Niall, I open the floor to you. Is there anything you wish to say?
Niall
While we are still conducting investigations into the cause, it cannot be denied...
that weaponry belonging to our forces was discharged against Uraya.
Regardless of any possible reason and circumstance...
we are prepared to offer recompense for this grave offence.
Raqura is offended.
Raqura
So you want to settle this with money...?
Niall
We will provide any compensation deemed necessary.
Raqura shakes her head.
Raqura
Perhaps I am misunderstanding.
To my ears, it sounds almost as if you mean to imply that the blame for these offences...
does not lie with Your Majesty at all!
Niall
We are investigating. I ask that we not draw any hasty conclusions.
Amalthus
What need is there for investigation?
Amalthus
I believe a cause has already been established. There are witnesses.
Raqura
And that would be?
Amalthus looks at Zeke. Zeke clasps his hands and explains that Torna was behind it.
Raqura
What a preposterous notion! The people you speak of are merely a terrorist group!
How could they possibly command that measure of-?
Zeke
It's the truth.
I, Ozychlyrus, swear this in the name of King Eulogimenos Tantal.
Niranira
Can confirm Ex-Chairman Bana give these people some kind of supplies.
Military supplies, me thinks. And in great number, yes.
Raqura
But why would...?
Amalthus
What if I were to tell you that the Aegis Malos,
who razed the world five centuries ago, was involved?
Raqura
Ridiculous. Everyone knows he disappeared in a blaze of flame!
Zeke
He's very much alive, believe me.
That arsehole - I mean, the Aegis - has confronted us in person.
And if my word is not enough for you...
Zeke looks at a guard, who goes to fetch Mythra. She stands at the foot of the table.
Raqura
A Blade?! But-but that Core Crystal...!
Zeke
This is another Aegis, named Mythra. Your Highness has heard of her, surely?
Raqura
So the rumors that reached us were true... Who is its Driver?
Zeke
If you knew that, I daresay your surprise would be even greater.
But that is not the matter we are here to discuss, Your Highness. This is a dire situation...
Back in the guest rooms, Rex is busy staring out the window. The rest of the party is also there.
Rex
Six o'clock already... Mythra's been in there for a long time now...
Nia
We've just gotta trust 'em. They're dealing with the leaders of whole nations.
It's not like there's anything you or me can do to help...
Rex
*Sigh*
The scene returns to the study.
Mythra
I've noticed something about Malos.
He's an Aegis... But you wouldn't know it from how he's fighting.
I think...I'm pretty sure he's damaged in some way.
Sorenghe Pattoy
You mean he can't use the full extent of his powers?
Mythra
The wounds I dealt in our battle long ago may not be completely healed.
His end-goal is Elysium.
He wants to go back to the place he was born. There he can heal until his powers have recovered.
If Malos is allowed to restore himself...
Raqura
The horrors of five centuries past will return...
Mythra
Or worse still. Malos's goal is simple.
He means to destroy humanity in its entirety.
Niall
Why would anyone desire that?
Mythra
Perhaps he does not even need a reason.[4]
It seems to be a deep-seated drive. An instinct. As natural as breathing.
Amalthus
(darkly)
All of this is my responsibility.
Niall
Praetor Amalthus? Whatever do you mean?
Amalthus
It was none other than I who awakened Malos and unleashed him upon the world.
Raqura
So, Your Eminence... the rumor that you were once Malos's Driver is...
Amalthus
I never intended to obscure the truth. It is writ plain for all to see in history books.
I was a fool...
It was to prevent such foolishness...
that all passage to the World Tree was forbidden after the Aegis War.
However, it has become apparent that the laws of men do not apply to Malos...
There's a small gasp from someone.
Amalthus
The time may have come... to lift that restriction...
The scene skips ahead. The meeting is over and everyone has cleared out. Only Amalthus and Mythra remain.
Amalthus
I appreciate this.
Mythra
Don't think you've earned my trust.
But since Rex is going to Elysium, their paths are bound to cross...
That's all.
Amalthus
I'm surprised you seem so devoted to the boy.
Mythra
It's for both our sakes.
But you, Amalthus... Who is it that you're living for?
There's no response.

Sad Day Ahead[edit]

It's the next morning. The party's grouped in the guest chambers again.
Zeke
Morning, folks. You're looking a bit better-slept than yesterday.
Rex
Pretty much.
Dromarch
Fan's state funeral is to be held today, is it not?
Pandoria
Yeah, I think it was meant to be happening in Seoris Plaza, right outside the Sanctum.
Zeke
You'll be going, right, chum?
Rex
Yes. It would be wrong for me not to.
Tora
Seoris Plaza very not far away. Time to go! Quick-quick!
Poppi α
Masterpon so bossy sometimes...

Fan's Funeral[edit]

People place flowers on a table in Seoris Plaza. Fan's flower-filled casket sits a fair distance away, at the top of the stairs, with Amalthus standing in front of it. Rex looks on with a set face.
Rex
...
Mythra, Nia, and Dromarch stand further back, closer to the wall.
Nia
I guess they did call her a Goddess... The state funeral makes sense.
She then turns to Mythra with some confusion.
Nia
Shouldn't you be with him?
Referring to Rex, presumably.
Mythra
He's a boy. Best not to bother them at times like this.
Nia
Heh. I expected you'd be more clingy. You really are different from her.
Mythra
Actually, letting him be was more her idea than mine.
Nia
Really? Pyra's? Get out!
So wait, you're saying you WANT to go be clingy, or what?
She puts on the most evil smirk of "that's some tasty blackmail right there".
Mythra
(completely deadpan)
I'll burn you.
Nia
(recoiling but still smirking)
I kid, I kid! Sheesh.
The crowd of funeral-goers all bow their heads.
Nia
It's weird though...
Mythra
What is?
Nia
I mean, don't you think it's odd?
Normally, if a Blade or its Driver dies, it'll just go back to being a Core Crystal.
So why is Fan just dead?
Mythra
I did wonder the same thing.
There's only one way I know for a dead Blade to keep its physical form.
Remember Minoth? I mean Cole. He was a Flesh Eater.
Nia
Yeah.
Mythra
But Fan wasn't a Flesh Eater. I can say that for sure.
She holds up her hands, forming a diamond shape with her fingers.
Nia
What's that?
Mythra
That's the shape of Fan's Core Crystal. Well, how it used to be.
Nia
But...now it's a triangle!
There's a clear shot of Fan's Core Crystal, before she was stabbed. It's more clear than ever that it occupies only the top half of the golden receptacle it sits in.
Mythra
Rex and I are quite a unique case, but this is different still.
Nia
How's it different?
Mythra
If a Blade shares its core with another, its shape changes in a uniform fashion.
In our case, the center part went to Rex, and the outer part to us.
The description is accentuated with cuts of the two.
Mythra
I don't know why that is, but it seems to be a rule.
Nia
...But Fan's isn't like that...
Mythra
Exactly.
The casket is closed.
Mythra
It looks more like someone stole her core, doesn't it?
Amalthus says some passionate words, unheard by the audience.

Another Audience[edit]

The ceremony is over.
Gramps
That was quite the grand funeral ceremony.
Dromrach
It spoke volumes as to just how much Fan was loved by her people.
Gramps
The Goddess of Indol won't be an easy position to replace.
Nia
Hey, Rex. What are you going to do from here on out?
Rex
If we're going to reach the World Tree, we'll need the Praetor's help, but...
Senelo joins the conversation.
Senelo
Master Rex! There you are.
Praetor Amalthus wishes to speak with you. He is waiting in the audience chamber.
Rex
That's perfect timing, then. Maybe he wants to talk about the World Tree?
Senelo
I am afraid I cannot say.
Gramps
Well, there is only one way to find out.
Zeke
Let's get ourselves on over to that audience chamber, then.

Servant of the Aegis[edit]

The party enters the Audience Chamber. It is now clear that Mòrag and Brighid are not with them. (They have not been seen since the congress, but it was plausible for them to have been offscreen.)
Amalthus is standing in the middle of the hall. A bunch of Core Crystals are hovering in front of him in a double helix formation. As a stream of motes of energy swirl upwards, further motes are drawn from the crystals to Amalthus. He drops his arms, which somehow puts everything away offscreen, and turns to the party.
Amalthus
My apologies. Did I keep you waiting?
Rex
No, not really.
What...were you doing?
Amalthus
I was cleansing the Core Crystals.
It markedly increases their resonance success rate.
Bonding with a Crystal carries certain risks, you understand...
Rex
I know.
Amalthus
When I became the Driver of an Aegis, this power was awakened in me.
Rex
...So I might be able to do it too?
Amalthus
Who knows. Different people are cut out for different things...
Rex
Right, yeah.
Amalthus
Now then. My work is done for the day.
Come with me.
The group is now in the study.
Rex
A special envoy...to Tantal? Me?
Amalthus
Correct. Behold.
He indicates the map of modern Alrest on the table.
Amalthus
As a salvager, I imagine you are already aware,
But this is Alrest, the world we currently inhabit.
We make our home on Titans, moving in circles around the World Tree.
And here lies the Great Void.
He points out the region around the World Tree, where the map shows how the sea leaves a hole surrounding it, rather than touching it.
Amalthus
This Void came into being 500 years ago. It did not exist prior to that.
Rex
So I've heard. It's in our way, anyway. It stopped us reaching the World Tree.
Amalthus
The Great Void is carved from the Cloud Sea by a monstrous beast known as Ophion.
Rex
Wait, you mean...that thing...?
He recalls their encounter with the giant robotic serpent.
Amalthus
To be precise, it is an Artifice, a servant of the Aegis.
Rex
Of Mythra?!
Nia
So if that thingy is Mythra's, then what did it attack us for?!
Doesn't make sense!
Mythra
Ophion was felled in the ancient battle with Malos, sinking below the clouds...
A short flashback plays. Ophion roars as it falls into the sea.
Mythra
This means...someone must have revived it.
Amalthus
Correct.
Mythra
And you're saying that someone was Zeke's home country, Tantal?
Amalthus
Yes. They gave Ophion one directive.
To ensure that none approach the World Tree.
They sought to prevent a repeat of the horrors of the Aegis War. So an obstacle was created - the Great Void.
Mythra
How did they manage a feat like that?
Amalthus
As I've said, mankind is regressing.
The camera looks at Zeke for a moment.
Amalthus
Only one artifact remains that can rescind Ophion's orders, and it lies in Tantal.
Zeke
It's called the Omega Fetter, and it's guarded by the royal family.
I'll take you to it.
Amalthus
I've prepared your envoy documents already. Your quest is to set foot in Elysium, correct?
Malos and his ilk will surely seek the Omega Fetter for themselves.
I would ask you to reach Elysium before they do, and inform me of what you find there.
Do it as a favor for a once-foolish old man.
And so that people may have a future in this dying world...

Tantalese Preparation[edit]

The group stands just outside the study.
Rex
So Zeke, you're going to be guiding us to Tantal, right?
Zeke
Sure am.
But let's head back to our chambers before we talk about it.
This isn't exactly the place for discussing stuff.
Rex
Back to our room? Got it.

One Last Stay[edit]

The party returns to Armalia.
Armalia
We've prepared your rooms.
I presume you'll be wanting to take your leave soon?
Please, make sure you're well rested before you set out once more.
Should we rest?
Rest
Don't rest
There is no further dialogue for either option.

Ancestors of Us Tantalese[edit]

It's morning. The group has convened in the room before heading out.
Zeke
We can reach Tantal by ship, but once there we'll need to do a spot of walking.
Nia
So we're traveling with Shellhead here? Never thought I'd see the day...
Zeke
I think you'll find I make a fantastic ally.
Tora
(frowning)
Luck of Zeke not so great. Bet we shipwrecked by tomorrow.
Zeke
(not even denying it)
Hahaha! Cheeky furball!
Nia
(flat)
We're all gonna die.
Rex
Hey, Zeke...
Rex
You said before that Torna concerned you too... What did you mean by that?
Zeke
Whuh? Oh yeah, that.
I don't know about those clowns, but Torna the country that fell 500 years ago...
They were the ancestors of us Tantalese.
The people of Tantal are descended from Addam, the hero of Torna who escaped its destruction.
Rex
So... After Pyra fell asleep, Addam escaped to Tantal?
Zeke
That's right!
Dromarch
That is the first I've heard of it.
I have studied much history, but this story never featured. Most peculiar.
Zeke
We're humble. Don't really like to brag about it.
He reaches back and pulls out an ornate dagger in a sheath.
Zeke
The only real trace left is in this here sigil of the royal family...
On the dagger's hilt is a mark that, though small and hard to make out, does look like it contains Addam's crest.
Mythra thinks about a conversation she had with Amalthus in his study some time recently.
Mythra
So why did you awaken Haze?
Amalthus
Because her power was of great use to me.
Indol has found itself under attack from Torna a number of times.
She was necessary in driving them back.
Mythra
(not buying it)
Really?
Then why don't you seem to have any others? Blades, that is.
Amalthus
Heh. Driver though I may be, I am no fighter.
Besides, I find the warrior monks here so reliable. They get the job done.
Mythra
Hmm... If you say so.
I wonder, do you know why Torna are using the name of a dead country?
Amalthus
Jin was a Blade of Torna, once.
Loyalty or nostalgia? Who can say. Perhaps both.
Mythra
Is that really all there is to it?
Amalthus
You don't think so?
Mythra
I don't know much about what happened while I slept.
There are no written records either. All we have is stories passed down.
Amalthus
And you think that is insufficient?
History is a murky thing. Only those present can truly know what took place.
Mythra
But weren't you one of those present?
Amalthus
And that is why I offer you my cooperation.
The flashback ends.
Mythra
I guess we'll find out if we go to Tantal...

The Last Day In Indol[edit]

The group has left the room for the last time.
Rex
Right...let's head for Goetuis Port!
Zeke
Can we make it a leisurely walk?
Rex
I guess...? Why?
Zeke
It's been yonks since I last went home to Tantal.
I've been thinking of Indol as my home so long now, it feels weird to leave. I want to enjoy my last moments here.
Rex
You can be shockingly sentimental sometimes.
Pandoria
I know! Shocking, isn't it?
Zeke
Shaddup, you two.
Pandoria
Gonna take some Indoline presents for the folk you haven't seen in a while?
Zeke
Hah! As if my old man would want any of that.
C'mon, let's start walking. To Goetuis Port!
Nia
You could grab a swig of Odifa along the way!
Pandoria
They don't have that stuff in Tantal, so this could be your last chance!
Zeke
I said shaddup already!

Ac...quiescence[edit]

The party notices that Poldis Circle is full of Urayan and Ardainian soldiers.
Nia
Hmm... Tensions seem high.
Dromarch
From what I gather,
it seems an official summit is to be held between Mor Ardain and Uraya.
Nia
A summit? You mean, about the recent punch-up? But I thought...
Rex
Didn't Praetor Amalthus get them to stop and sort it all out?
Dromarch
Perhaps there are some discussions they would prefer Indol not to be privy to.
Zeke
Besides, Uraya doesn't like to associate too closely with Indol.
They'd hate to be seen as acquiescing to the Praetor's will.
Gotta keep up appearances, you know?
Nia
Ac...quiescing? You what?
Zeke
Like, letting him tell 'em what's what.
Nia
Hah, for such a spanner you sure use some big words. How come?
Zeke
Stop calling me that! Buzz off, kitty-no-mates!
Anyway, this summit would explain why Mòrag isn't around...
Dromarch
Indeed. She has much to attend to.
On presumably the docked Ardainian ship, there is a discussion between Mòrag, Brighid, Niall, and Aegaeon.
Mòrag
(quietly impressed)
Shared sovereignty over Gormott?
Niall
Yes. I don't think anything less will be sufficient to placate them.
Mòrag
The Senate would never approve it...
Niall
I can overrule them by decree.
Of course, I would need to secure Senator Roderich's cooperation.
Mòrag
Imperial decree?
If it's come to that... Well then I cannot dissent.
I cannot help but admire your courage, Your Majesty.
Niall
That means a lot, coming from you.
There's a knock at the door, which quickly opens as Niranira rushes in.
Mòrag
Acting Chairman Niranira.
Niranira
Sorry for intrude.
Is emergency, so Niranira take liberty of drop by unannounced...
Niall
You certainly look troubled, Chairman.
So... What is this emergency you speak of?
Niranira
Well...

Bana's New Scheme[edit]

The party has reached the port.
Zeke
So, we can make our way to Tantal from here.
I assume the Praetor has a ship waiting for us.
Nia
Hey, Shellhead.
Zeke
What?
Nia
Are we really gonna just leave Mòrag behind?
Zeke
Who's leavin' anyone? She's got her own priorities, y'know.
Nia
Yeah, but still...
Gramps
Anyway, her schedule is filled with official duties right now.
Rex
For sure. It's just a bit of a shame, is all.
You know, since we came all this way together.
Zeke
I guess I know how you feel, chum.
Uh? Speak of the devil...
Zeke's noticed that Mòrag and Brighid are coming their way. They inform the party of what Niranira told them.
Rex
Bana's going for the summit?
Gramps
On top of everything, an assassination attempt?
Brighid
If blood gets spilled at the summit, it'll mean war.
Zeke
War's good for business, after all.
I guess he wants to use that to get himself back in with the Guild...
Rex
Why, that little... I was wondering where he'd slunk off to! What a sneaky git...
Mòrag
It seems Acting Chairman Niranira...
wishes to take care of this incident covertly, to avoid it reflecting badly upon the Guild.
Rex
So you came to us?
Mòrag
If we mobilize the army, the whole thing will become public.
Nia
(irked)
Oh, I get it. So we're a more convenient solution.
Mòrag
I'm not forcing you.
If you refuse, Brighid and I will do what we can alone.
Zeke
(yeah right)
Ah, come off it, lady.
You wouldn't even think of dragging us into this if you thought you could handle it on your own.
Mòrag
(smoothly)
I suppose not.
You know Bana as well as I. There's no telling what he might be plotting.
Brighid
According to Acting Chairman Niranira...
several giant weapons were being built at the factory where we last saw him.
And one of them is currently unaccounted for.
Tora
Giant...weapons...
Rex
Got it.
Besides, you know. We've got our own score to settle with him.
Mòrag
Thank you.
It will be easier to focus on my duties knowing you are on the case. Good luck.
Rex
Leave it to us!

Bana the Schemer[edit]

A Normal Shaking Crate[edit]

The party has determined that Bana is trying to poison the food aboard the Ardainian ship. They hustle aboard.
As they pass through the cargo hold, they go by an enormous wooden crate that is very obviously out of place. It loudly shakes a couple times without being noticed.

Tirkin Cookery[edit]

The ship's mess hall is occupied by a bunch of Tirkin wearing chef hats and wielding cooking utensils. They don't quite look like the goons one would've expected Bana to hire, but maybe they're just well-disguised. The tables are set with plates and some sort of food stacked on buffet-style platters. The party barges in.
Rex
Stop everything! Hold it!
Tirkin
Craa! Wh-wh-what? Who's you?
Rex
Don't play dumb!
Poison! That food is poisoned!
Tirkin
P-p-p-poison? You kids krazy in brains!
Zeke
We're past talking! Quick, grab 'em!
Rex
Yahh!
They ready for a fight.

Fire Dragons: Cooks, not Crooks[edit]

The Tirkin are defeated, and flop down to the floor.
Someone
(offscreen)
Please wait!
A Nopon runs in from the back. Haven't seen him in a very long time.
Rex
Pupunin?! What are you doing here?
Pupunin
What silly question!
It Pupunin who hire world-famous band of gourmet chefs, Fire Dragons!
Rex
(confusion)
World-famous...
Nia
(disbelief)
...gourmet chefs?!
Pupunin
Mor Ardain very insistent, want only very best food for important summit!
Pupunin work wings to bone finding chefs and now what this?!
It starts to sink in that perhaps they acted way too rashly.
Rex
Uh? So you mean...
Pyra
...these guys are...
Nia
...just a bunch of cooks?!
Dromarch
I did think they were not putting up much of a fight.
Pandoria
Then this food is actually...
Zeke goes over to a table, picks up a piece of the food, and inserts it into his face. After a moment of reflection, the background explodes into bright colors as he stands there going "mm-mm-mm-mmmmmmm!" with a stupid open-mouthed grin on his face.
Zeke
D-d-d-deeeeelicious! I could eat this stuff forever!
The rest of the party just kinda stares at him.
Pupunin
What friend doing?! Very expensive food now go to waste!
Rex
S-sorry! We really did think they were here to murder someone...
Pupunin
Murder?! What this nonsense friends talk?!
I demand compensation!
Friends have no idea how much time and money Pupunin spent on this-
There's an explosion. From the sound, it came from elsewhere on the ship.
Rex
An explosion?!
Zeke
From where?!
Some soldiers down the hall confer with each other and run away. One remains behind. The group runs up to him.
Rex
Hey! What's going on?
Soldier
Explosion in the hangar!
Right when everyone was busy with Queen Raqura's arrival!
It's really bad!
He also turns and runs.
Rex
The Queen is here? This is it!
Pyra
Rex, we need to hurry!
Rex
Yeah!
The group runs out. Pupunin yells after them.
Pupunin
Hey! Heyheyhey, wait!
Hey! No running away! Compensatioooon!

Giga Rosa Makes an Entrance[edit]

The party reach the hangar to find out what's going on.
The suspicious wooden crate is gone, replaced with a Rosa that has a big "G" on its forehead. Clearly it's what was inside the box. Raqura and her aides are there, with some downed Urayan soldiers.
Raqura
Who are you, villain?! Is this some underhanded Ardainian trick?!
Bana
Wrong! But also right! Truth is complicated!
Obviously Bana is piloting the thing.
Bana
Anyhow, here is where Queen die.
If it look like Queen killed by Mor Ardain, me in the money again!
Raqura
That voice...
Bana, from the Argentum Guild.
Bana
Correct! Top marks for the Queen!
Raqura
But you were unseated as Chairman.
Bana
Is not so easy to get rid of Bana!
Trade Guild of Argentum belong to Bana! Down to last screw, last drop of oil!
Raqura
Grr...
Rex
Hold it, Bana!
The party enters the frame.
Bana
You...Rex!
Meeeeh! Bana not let Rex interfere with plans!
Again and again... Bana not stand for this!
Poppi α
Masterpon! That Artificial Blade!
Tora
It Rosa?! Meh-meh-meh... Tora feel much greater power than before...
He looks at the big "G". Only Bana's silhouette is visible in the cockpit. No sidekick today.
Tora
Especially from mark on forehead!
Mòrag, Brighid, Niall, and Aegaeon arrive.
Niall
What's going on?!
Wh-what's that?!
Bana
Oho-ho-ho...
Even Emperor come straight to Bana! Convenient little moth to flame!
Nia
Come on, Bana. Cut the bad-guy talk and accept you've lost.
You know you won't get away with it, what with all these witnesses here!
Bana
If Bana simply kill everyone then nobody blab!
Victory of Bana is assured...
Rex
You know we can't let you do that!
Bana lets out a slightly deranged chortle.
Bana
You think you handle the power of upgraded Giga Rosa?!
Things go very different this time!

Niall's "Passing"[edit]

Giga Rosa has been defeated, and slumps down. Bana gets up from being flopped on the floor.
Bana
How...
Even Giga Rosa defeated by these nasty meddling kids...
Mòrag
This ends here, Bana. You are under arrest.
Mòrag
The Praetorium will handle the judgment. Assassination is a serious matter.
Your sentence will be harsh.
Raqura
So the mercantile genius Bana...
meets an inglorious end before my very eyes. Pitiful.
Bana
(slipping)
Grrr... Bana is...
Mòrag gives him a "Mm?" that dares him to go on.
Bana
(gaining conviction)
Bana is not kind of man to go down like this!
He pulls out a small device with hazard stripes and a single big red button. Everyone recoils.
Mòrag
Ah!
Bana
If I go down, I take you with me!
He starts to dramatically get ready to push the button.
Niall
Watch out-!
Niall dashes forward.
Niall
Aegaeon!
Aegaeon
As you wish!
Aegaeon grunts as he steps forward and raises a large watery shield that covers all the onlookers. But Niall, for reasons known only to himself, runs right through and outside the shield in his continued attempt to get to Bana. Mòrag is shocked. Bana presses the button. Giga Rosa's core glows annd there's a bright flash as it explodes. The shield drops after the flash fades; only a few parts of the robot are left scattered on the floor, and Bana is nowhere to be seen. Everyone is in various stages of disbelief.
Raqura
...[5]
Niall is just kinda standing there in front of everyone. He doesn't look particularly bothered.
Raqura
Niall Ardanach... You...
You sought to...protect us?
Niall
(faintly)
I'm...glad...
He slowly falls to the ground. Mòrag runs at him.
Mòrag
Majesty!
She lifts up his torso.
Mòrag
Majestyyy!!!
He's completely unresponsive.
Mòrag
Your Majesty! Please, no!
Aegaeon
(sad and final)
Your Majesty... I have failed you...
Aegaeon disappears. His dark Core Crystal falls to the ground.[6]
Mòrag
I...it can't be... To protect us, you...
Everyone else begins to realize what's going on and start to look sad.
Mòrag
(losing composure)
Please, wake up! Niall!
Niall!
Rex
Mòrag...
Nia doesn't look sad like everyone else. Instead, she looks like she's made a decision.
Nia
Dromarch.
Dromarch
(is this not a poor time)
Yes?
Nia
Distract the others...
Dromarch
Distract...? I'm not sure I...
He figures it out.
Dromarch
N-no! My Lady, you cannot-!
Nia
There's still time...
Hurry!
Dromarch
(as you say)
Yes...my lady.
Dromarch steps to the side.
Dromarch
(calling)
There are more of them!
Everyone turns around.
Mòrag
(ready for revenge)
Where?!
Zeke
(maybe a bit too flippantly)
What'd you say?!
Dromarch
This way.
The rest of you should get to safety!
He starts to hustle towards the door that leads deeper into the ship.
Zeke
Chum!
Rex
I'm on it!
The party follows. Mòrag slowly and carefully puts Niall down before doing the same. The Urayans turn towards the exit door and casually walk away. No one questions that Nia has remained behind. She walks up to Niall and crouches beside him.
Someone in a gold-trimmed white outfit with very long ears is doing something over Niall's body, causing him to glow bright blue. He opens his eyes with probably less surprise than there should have been and looks at his caregiver.
Niall
(astonishment)
You are...
Nia???
Shh. You're gonna be fine...
She has Nia's voice, and Nia's face markings, but with an inverted kite-shaped Core Crystal in her chest that is a mottled blue and red. A large sphere of blue energy encircles them both.
A bit of time later, the party re-enters the hangar. Dromarch is paying for his deception.
Zeke
What d'you mean, imagined it?!
You got us all in a proper tizzy!
Dromarch
My apologies... I thought I spied silhouettes...
I did not mean to cause trouble.
Nia
(offscreen)
Heeey!
Mòrag looks up with an "Uh?".
Nia is waving at them excitedly.
Nia
Hey! You guys!
His Majesty the Emperor is awake!
Niall is half-up, lying on his side.
Mòrag
What?!
Brighid
Can it be?!
Nia tries to help Niall up, but he stubbornly gets up on his own.
Mòrag
Majesty!
Mòrag runs up and captures him in a very un-Mòrag-like hug.
Niall
I apologize...for making you worry...
Mòrag
Majesty...
It's... It's a miracle...
The others have caught up.
Brighid
When Aegaeon returned to his core, I was certain we had lost you...
Nia
Honestly...you call yourselves soldiers?
First aid? Anyone heard of it?
Mòrag
But...his wounds...
Nia
(really playing this like it's nothing)
Just scratches.
Pfft. Nothing me and Dromarch can't handle.
Mòrag
You saved-?!
Nia
(way too smug about it)
Heheh...
Mòrag
Thank you, Nia. I truly don't know how to...
I will never be able to repay you for what you-
Nia
Oh, don't sweat it.
Let's just say you owe me one. That'll do fine, right?
Mòrag
(warmly)
Nia...
The scene shifts to Mor Ardain. Niall has returned to the throne room. He stands and stares at a table covered in stacks of paper.
Mòrag
You shouldn't be up.
It's only been one day... Please don't strain yourself.
He turns back to the table.
Niall
Half a day off and look at all this paperwork!
I swear, it's like they don't want me to sleep at all!
Mòrag
Majesty...
Niall
Special Inquisitor. I hereby issue you new orders.
It is my wish that you travel with the Aegis as an emissary of the Empire.
Guard her and defend her against her enemies until she reaches Tantal.
Mòrag
Guard...the Aegis?
Niall
I've already discussed it with His Eminence.
Mòrag
Forgive me. Your Majesty, I cannot accept.
Just think about what happened yesterday!
It would be sheer foolishness for me to leave your side!
Niall
Is that so?
Mòrag lets out a "Huh?".
Niall
I can see it in your eyes. It's clear that the Aegis...
...or rather, that boy, has made a great impression on you.
Mòrag
That's not-!
I am your...Special Inquisitor. Ensuring Your Majesty's safety is my only concern.
To abandon that duty and go traveling...
Niall indicates an inert Core Crystal on the table.[7]
Mòrag
Is this...Aegaeon's...?
Niall
A Driver who cannot even protect himself is no Driver at all.
Yesterday's events have made me keenly aware that I have no aptitude for it.
It will be of more use in your hands.
Mòrag
Majesty...
Niall
The world is changing, Mòrag.
I trust you more than anyone to lend that boy the wisdom and strength he will need.
Mòrag is speechless.
Niall
I miss it, you know. Lake Yewtle, in Gormott.
Mòrag
...What?
Niall
Remember when the two of us would shake off the servants and go swimming there?
Mòrag
Ah... Yes. Of course.
Niall
Kids from the nearby village would come too. Good times.
Mòrag
Majesty...
Niall
If Mor Ardain...
No, the whole of Alrest could be like that again... Wouldn't it be beautiful...?
Mòrag
Is that my new duty, then?
Niall turns to look at the throne.
Niall
In truth, it should have been you sitting in this chair right now...
Mòrag
The imperial line has always passed from father to son.
On the day Your Majesty was born, that's exactly what happened.
I knew that day would come. It came as no surprise.
Niall
You were raised by my father to take the throne of the Empire.
As befits the daughter of my Lord Uncle Eandraig.
Mòrag
And I am grateful for it.
If not for him, I would never have met Brighid. Never have met...them.
I'd have missed out on so much.
Niall
There. Those are your true feelings.
Mòrag is embarrassed to have let this out.
Niall
A magnificent power resides in you.
Mòrag, power like yours exists to be used.
Mòrag
Niall...
Niall
You've been tied down long enough.
Follow your heart, Mòrag Ladair.
Mòrag
I have no words. Thank you, Your Majesty.
Very well, then.
I hereby accept the task you have assigned to me.
Niall
That's the Mòrag I know and love. Make me proud.
Later, Mòrag and Brighid reconvene with the rest of the party on the docks of Indol.
Mòrag
...So that's how it is. It seems our paths continue to entwine.
Rex
That's awesome news!
To be honest, I was really hoping there was some way you could stick around.
I was just thinking of asking you myself.
Mòrag
Saved you the trouble, did I?
Rex
That you did! Thanks a bunch, Mòrag!
He holds out his hand. Mòrag looks confused about why they need to do this at this point, but goes ahead and shakes it.
A Urayan ship sails across the Cloud Sea. Raqura and her aides are onboard.
Raqura
I can't help but feel that in all the confusion surrounding Bana, our concerns...
have been neatly swept aside.
Sorenghe Pattoy
The Praetorium maintains absolute control over Blade distribution. It is quite vexing...
Aide 3
Awakening rates from natural cores are very low,
which limits the pool of compatible Drivers.
Raqura
So to create large numbers of Drivers, the cleansing Indol provides is a necessity.
That much I am willing to accept.
The real problem is the fact that the Aegis has awakened.
This is no time to be squabbling over territory.
If we misread the situation even a little, Uraya itself could be sunk to the Cloud Sea's bed.
Emperor Niall must surely be thinking the same thing...
That's why he sent his precious Mòrag to shepherd them along.
Sorenghe Pattoy
And now we find ourselves in their debt...
Raqura
Who could have predicted such an act of selflessness?
Was it just the passion of youth, or was it...?
Sorenghe Pattoy
My liege...
Raqura
In any case, for now we should keep our troops mobilized while we monitor the situation.
I hardly expect Tantal will comply with the Praetor's plans so easily, either...

Towards Tantal[edit]

The party finds the Indoline ship and speaks to Dorara.
Dorara
Dorara hear the news! Friends wanting to go to Tantal?
Set sail?
Let's go
Dorara
Actually, ship captain was Indoline, and go into deep mourning for Lady Fan. Then was nobody left to steer ship...
And so, Dorara get selected to replace! Dorara never go there before, so will have to work hard to make trip success!
Dorara not worry, though. With prince of Tantal on board, getting in should be piece of pollen cake!
Not yet...
Dorara
Dorara understand. Friends need mental composure before visit to Tantal.
Dorara not going anywhere, so no need for rushings!

Tantal, the Snow-White Kingdom[edit]

The Indoline ship travels across the sea. Rex is out on the deck, staring off into the distance. Zeke appears and immediately goes for the jugular.
Zeke
Say, chum. Which one d'you fancy, Pyra or Mythra?
Rex
Uh, Zeke... You can't just ask someone...
Anyway, they're the same person! I've never really thought of them separately...
Zeke
Are you serious? But they're like, totally different characters.
Like, Mythra is jolly intense.
And Pyra is just totally mellow, or, I dunno... What's the opposite of "pushy"?
Rex
On the outside, maybe.
But Pyra's got a lot of backbone too. She can be pretty stubborn!
Zeke
You seem to understand them pretty deeply.
Well, I suppose you ARE their Driver.
Rex
Hey...
Zeke
Yeah?
Rex
You're a prince from Tantal, aren't you, Zeke?
Why were you in the Praetorium?
Zeke
(almost not mockingly)
I mean, you can't just ask someone...
Pandoria
Oh, his old man kicked him out!
Pandoria is apparently also here.
Zeke
Oi, no! Bad Blade, bad!
...How long have you been standing there?
Pandoria
From about..."which one d'you fancy".
Zeke
"Which one d'you fa..." That's the whole conversation!
Pandoria
As I was saying, my Prince got disowned by his father.
He spent all his time traveling the world for fun, instead of attending to his studies.
Then byeee!
Zeke
It wasn't for fun! I was learning all about, uh, society and international relations!
Pandoria
"International relations," that whatcha call it?
Zeke
Oi, can it, you! What are you doing anyway, dissing your own Driver?!
Rex
Hahahah, you guys crack me up.
Pandoria
I love him really.
Rex
Aww! Anyway, he sounds tough. Zeke's dad, I mean.
Pandoria
Tantal is an isolationist society...
Crossing its borders without leave is strictly forbidden.
It's been that way for ages now.
Rex
Oh, hmm...
Pandoria
But you've seen how my Prince here is.
Couldn't stop himself leaving a few times, so he got chewed out and disowned.
Back when he was, fifteen or something?
Zeke
Yeah, something like that.
Pandoria
Then the Praetor himself found him half-dead on the ground one day, and took him in.
He made up that "special envoy" stuff.
Rex
And that's how you ended up in Indol...
It all makes sense now.
Oh, but wait... Is it safe for you to go back to Tantal, then?
Zeke
This time we've got official business from the Praetorium! It'll be fine. Probably.
Besides...
Rex
Yeah?
Zeke
Tantal is too ignorant of the outside world. It needs a wake-up call.
One of the ship's Indoline staff walks up.
Shipman
Sire! We have reached the designated coordinates. Please.
Zeke
Right! Ready?
Pandoria
You betcha!
Rex
Huh?
Zeke
Shut up and sit down, chum. This'll be great!
The whole party gathers on the bow of the ship. Pandoria stands at the front and puts a hand to her chest. A laser-like beam of light comes out of her Core Crystal and goes down into the clouds.
Somewhere in a great stone room lit by torches and green ether, the ground trembles. An orange-haired man approaches a stone throne.
Man
My Lord. Genbu has begun surfacing.
The man on the throne replies.
King
I am aware. It's Pandoria.
Man
Then the Prince...?
King
...Yes.
Man
We have received reports that he made contact with the Aegis in Indol.
King
So after 500 years, he makes his move... Praetor Amalthus.
Man
My Lord...?
King
We must act. To protect our days of peace. Even if they are a dream that cannot last...
A continent-sized Titan, shaped like a turtle, emerges from the Cloud Sea and sits on top.
Nia
Whoa... It's just like a bigger version of Turters.
Zeke retrieves Turters from his coat and pets him.
Zeke
It's called Genbu.
It's the same, like, Titan-type as Uraya. Normally it's submerged in the Cloud Sea.
Pandoria
Even in early fall, it can get pretty cold inside Tantal. Mind you don't freeze!
Nia
Brr... I really can't stand the cold...
Brighid
I can provide my own warmth. You can stay close to me if you like.
She shows off by lighting her hand on fire.
Mythra
Me as well.
She switches to Pyra and does the same.
Nia
You guys are pretty handy to have around.
Pyra
Well, it is our trademark, right?
Brighid
Essentially.
Nia takes a look at Zeke. While he already wears way too many just the right amount of belts, he would need a lot more to cover his exposed chest.
Nia
Aren't you gonna be cold like that, Shellhead?
Zeke
I'm used to it. I'll be dandy.
Pandoria
He's naturally dense, it's good insulation.
Rex
Nia
Oh. Makes sense.
Zeke
Stop encouraging her! Gang of bullies!
The inside of Tantal is a typical ice world, full of ancient stone structures. Addam's crest is clearly visible within the Tantalese crest carved into the port's architecture.

Dromarch, the Stiff and Spiky[edit]

The group travels through the snowdrifts of Tantal. Nia has chosen to engage in cat behavior and is latched on to Pyra's arm with the force of a hydraulic press. Pyra stumbles in a vain attempt to keep moving at full speed.
Pyra
H-hey, Nia... Do you, um, mind...?
Nia
Hehe, c'mooon, it's not so bad.
You're just so warm. I can't help it!
She does choose to let go. The procession has stopped for a moment.
Gramps
It's a function of what's known as "infrared radiation".
Rex
Gramps knows everything.
Pyra
I'm...not your personal heater, you know...
Dromarch
M-my lady...
If you desire warmth, why not take some from me?
Miss Pyra seems to be in some distress...
Nia
(without hesitation)
No way.
Your fur is all stiff and spiky with the cold, it'd be murder on my sensitive skin.
Dromarch
(lost his purpose in life)
But, my lady...
Nia looks up at a nearby rock, which is lined by glowing ether.
Nia
Hey, is it just me, or are the ether lines really dim?
Poppi α
What is meaning of "ether lines"?
Nia
Y'know, those things, the glowing threads that run inside a Titan.
Dromarch
That is the glow of pure ether coursing through the Titan's body.
You can compare it to the bloodstream of a human.
Zeke
You've got good eyes.
Genbu has pretty bad circulation, compared to other Titans.
They say it's why we have a cold climate and awful crops.
Rex
So it's...cold-blooded?
Zeke
Heh, call it what you like.

Inherited Knowledge[edit]

The party approaches the entryway to the capital, Theosoir.
Mòrag
Oh, my- This is the very picture of the ancient civilizations I've read about!
Zeke
It's a pretty classic look.
You know the old land of Torna?
They had a proud and noble civilization, rivaled only by Judicium at the time.
But whereas Judicium were the masters of biological arts...
Tornans knew all there was to know about engineering.
The proud blood of Torna runs in the veins of us Tantalese.
Dromarch
As there are people to pass it on to, civilization will endure.
Knowledge is inherited, much like life itself.
Nia
Nice quote! You should write that down.
Dromarch
(cannot write)
Thank you.
Zeke
It's not that simple, though.
Rex goes "Huh?".
Zeke
You'll see...

The Market Behind the Market[edit]

The inside of Theosoir looks like any other city.
Nia
Whoa, that's a pretty lively market.
Zeke
It's the black market.
Nia
Black market?
Zeke
Tantal is so cold, there's precious little in the way of local produce to sell.
Just look. All the regular shops are shuttered.
There are indeed several places that could be shops all boarded up.
Rex
You're right, they're mostly empty.
Zeke
Instead, folks pay ungodly prices...
for produce that's been smuggled in from other nations.
And since it's the only thing keeping people from actually starving,
the bigwigs just turn a blind eye.
Brighid
So most of the agricultural production is wasted just surviving, and the country grows weak...
Zeke
Exactly.
Mòrag
So even the wisdom of a proud ancient civilization cannot solve all problems...
Zeke
Ancient civilization sounds good and all...
but basically, this place is a giant museum with no tourists. That's not gonna feed anyone.

First Steps into the Palace[edit]

The party enters Theoscaldia Palace. The orange-haired man from the side scene earlier, Fortis, is waiting for them.
Fortis
We have been expecting you, Your Highness.
Zeke
Yeah, yeah. Good to see ya. Is the old man inside?
Fortis
Indeed. He has been eagerly awaiting your return.
Zeke
Hah! Now I know you're lying.
Armus'll fly before that man welcomes me home.
No need to coddle me, mate.
Fortis
Apologies.
Zeke
Any case, seems he knows we're coming. That'll save time.
Fortis begins to lead the party onward. Mòrag then looks at the ether lights in the walls and stops for a moment.
Mòrag
Could it be...?
Brighid
Are you all right?
Mòrag
Yes.
Mòrag follows a train of thought.
Mòrag
Tora.
Tora and Poppi had been following up behind her. They stop to listen to what she now tells them.
Tora
Uh? But why?
It true Poppi able to produce own reserves of ether energy, but...
Mòrag
I'll explain later. For now, just do as I ask.
Tora
All right then. Leave it to Tora.

The Aegis Must Be Destroyed![edit]

The party enters the throne room, flanked by two lines of soldiers. Zeke and Pandoria stand off to the side as they walk up to King Eulogimenos. Mòrag, up front, takes off her hat and kneels. Fortis tells Eulogimenos something. Rex realises that everyone else is kneeling and quickly does the same (except Tora, either he thinks he can get away with it or he physically can't). Zeke chukcles at this. Rex hands a scroll to Fortis (presumably saying something, nothing is heard), who takes it to Eulogimenos. He unfurls it.
Eulogimenos
The Aegis...I presume.
He reads the message. His eyes widen.
The party looks up in shock as they hear paper ripping. Eulogimenos tears up the scroll and lets the fragments scatter. Zeke is just as stunned as the rest of them. Rex stands up, prompting the guards to gather in front of him and lower their spears in his direction.
Dromarch
Guards?! My lady!
Everyone else gets up as the guards surround them.
Nia
Wh-what the hell is going on?
Shellhead?!
Zeke
(pushing a guard off him)
N-no idea! Stop this at once!
Dad!
Eulogimenos raises a hand. Some sort of metallic frame hovering above the group fires a beam of lightning down onto Pyra.
Pyra
Aaagh-!
Rex
Guaahh-!
Nia
Rex!
The frame drops down and grabs Pyra, lifting her off the ground. She seems to have been stunned and knocked out.
Rex
Pyra!
He tries to chase her, but the guards force him down.
Rex
Le-! Let her go! Pyra! Pyyyraaa!!!
Zeke runs in front.
Zeke
Stop this madness! What's going on?!
Rex and his lot haven't done anything!
Eulogimenos statnds up.
Eulogimenos
We cannot afford to wait until they do, Zeke.
The world must not be allowed to burn.
The Aegis must be destroyed!
Nia
Oh no, you don't...
Dromarch! Let's get Rex outta there!
Dromarch
Roger!
The two leap at the guards. But before they get there, the edge fades from Nia's weapons, leaving her with only the bulk. The guard blocks the strike.
Nia
The ether energy!
Distracted, she gets butt-ended in the midsection and pushed away.
Nia
Aagh-!
Dromarch
My lady! Aurgh-!
Dromarch gets zapped by lightning.
Eulogimenos
Please, do not resist.
My goal is only to destroy the Aegis...
I have no wish to take your lives also.
Mòrag
King Eulogimenos.
Mòrag puts her hat back on.
Mòrag
I stand before you as a special envoy of Mor Ardain. The Emperor sent me here himself.
Do you realize what you are doing?
Eulogimenos
I am quite aware. And prepared to face the consequences.
Mòrag
Prepared...?
The scene skips ahead. The party have been removed from the throne room. Zeke and Pandoria remain. Zeke is still hot.
Zeke
Why? Why do you have to bump Pyra off?
Eulogimenos
I see you still speak like a commoner.
Zeke
What's that got to do with anything? Don't change the subject.
Eulogimenos
What if I told you I act for justice?
Zeke
What are you trying to say?
Eulogimenos
You could say... I'm doing this for Alrest.
Zeke
Say what now...?!
Eulogimenos
Follow me.
The scene sips to...a storage room. There's a lot of crates, jars, and barrels stacked around.
Zeke
Th-this is...
Eulogimenos
This is...the legacy of our royal line.
Zeke
You can't be serious...
Why...? Father, why?!
Zeke sounds way more distraught than makes sense for someone just seeing a bunch of boxes.
The scene changes to Rex beating on a metal door with a bunch of glowing rectangles in it. Instead of doing anything productive, his weapon just bounces off harmlessly. The rest of the party is also in the room. The walls are covered in glowing lines as well.
Rex
Ukh-!
Dromarch
It appears the flow of ether energy is being blocked off.
Rex
Dammit!
He stotps trying for now.
Rex
While we're doing this, Pyra is...!
We have to do something!
Gramps
There is no point, Rex. You're just wasting your strength.
Dromarch
Both the walls and floor are built to withstand great force. We cannot make a dent in them.
Nia
Let's calm down a bit, Rex.
If we think calmly, we'll come up with something! ...Grr!
She turns towards Tora, Poppi, Mòrag, and Brighid. They're back there doing nothing at all.
Nia
Hey, you lot! Can you try to help us out here?!
Mòrag
Your efforts are pointless.
Mòrag
The way they built this place... It's essentially one giant stasis web.
Nia
Stasis web... Like those nets you used in Torigoth?
Mòrag nods.
Mòrag
To lock Drivers up together with their Blades, and even leave us our weapons...
They must have the utmost confidence.
Perhaps we could break through, given enough time...
But by then it will be too late and the Aegis will be disposed of.
Nia
..."Disposed of"...?!
That's all the more reason you should give us a bloody hand!
Mòrag
I said it's pointless.
Nia hisses.
Mòrag
We won't get anywhere... with brute force, that is.
Nia
Huh?
Mòrag smirks. She has a plan.
Elsewhere, Zeke is silently fuming on a balcony with Pandoria.
Pandoria
So what now, my Prince?
Zeke
This pisses me right off...
Pandoria
Um, say what?
Zeke
I said, I'm pissed off!
Doing it for the world, my arse. How self-serving can you get...?
Pandoria
How d'you mean...?
Zeke
This country's strangling itself to death with its own web of lies and excuses!
But just maybe...our chum could break it free...
Pandoria
Rex could?
Zeke
No faith, eh?
Pandoria
Hey, whatever. If you believe in him, my Prince, I'm with you all the way.
Zeke
That kid's heart is pure.
Too pure for his own good, sometimes.
But isn't it our duty as adults to give him a little help with that?
Pandoria
Probably. You know, this is what I like about you.
Zeke
This won't be easy...
Pandoria
Oh quit it with your drama! When is anything ever easy for you?
Zeke delivers a "hah!".
Zeke
Heh. Let's go!
Tora and Mòrag have been doing something with Poppi.
Mòrag
OK, that should do it.
Tora
Preparations complete!
Rex
What's going on? Tora?
Tora
Oho-ho! Both Drivers and Blades...
use ether energy to deploy Arts, yes?
Nia
You can skip the lecture, Tora. Everyone knows that.
Tora
But right now friends cannot, yes?
Rex
Yeah, there's something about this room...
Tora
Oho-ho-ho! But Rex-Rex and friends forgetting one very important thing!
Nia
Hurry up, would you? Just spit it out, furball!
Tora
Could be friends forgetting, Poppi is artificial Blade?
Rex
Why would we forget that? She's been with us all this time...
...Wait! I get it! Her ether furnace!
Poppi α
Rex correct.
Thanks to friend Mòrag, Poppi now able to generate own supply of ether energy.
Nothing barrier can do anything about.
Tora
Tora transfer crystal from sword of Mòrag to Biter of Poppi.
That crystal have enough energy stored for one use of Arts.
And Biter of Poppi use Earth element.
So through synergy with Fire element of Mòrag, power of Arts is amplified!
Mòrag
If we hit it straight on, I doubt the door can withstand that.
Nia
Wait a minute... You stored energy in that crystal?
How is that possible with a barrier...?
Dromarch
Aha!
Lady Mòrag has not used a single Art since we arrived in this place!
Nia emits a "Wha-?!".
Mòrag
I had my suspicions ever since we entered the palace.
So I secretly asked Tora to refrain from using any Arts either.
Tora
Oho-ho-ho!
Gramps
I see now.
If our enemies knew Poppi retains her power inside the barrier, they would keep us on a tighter leash.
Mòrag
Exactly. Here goes. Step back.
Rex
Hold up!
If you transferred the crystal from the sword, what will you fight with?
Mòrag
I can generate a new one from Brighid's core.
...? Don't tell me you didn't know about that.
Rex produces a "Whoa..." that's a bit awed but mostly confused.
Nia
Seriously? You don't even know how Blade weapons work? Give me a break.
Rex
How...would I know something like that?!
I've never lost or broken my weapon!
Brighid
Then I suppose I cannot blame you.
Mòrag
Moving along, then... Tora, Poppi, please?
Tora
With pleasure!
Poppi α
Poppi power!
Poppi readies the shield.
Poppi α
The spring-loaded face comes out of the shield and crashes into the door. There's an explosion and the door is gone. Rex goes ":D".
Tora
We did it!
Poppi α
We the best!
Gramps
You made quite some noise, too. It won't be long before the guards arrive!
Rex
Good point!
Dromarch
Lady Pyra was taken below. Mayhap somewhere beneath the palace?
Rex
Got it!

Reunited with Zeke and Pandoria[edit]

The party has been fighting through bunches of Tantalese guards. They've reached the Hall of Plenty to find another group. They ready to fight, but then a 極改 appears on the floor under them and takes them all out with a blast of lightning. Rex is :D to see Zeke and Pandoria there.
Rex
Zeke! Pandoria!
Zeke
Oh, what? We came all this way to bust you out!
How inconsiderate!
Rex
You kept us waiting!
Won't you get in trouble for helping us?
Zeke
Eh, I'm the prodigal son anyhow. It can't get any worse.
Rex
Where's Pyra?
Pandoria
This way. Follow us.

Always Getting Scratched Up[edit]

The group hustles down the Hall of Virtue. Rex suddenly stops and doubles over.
Rex
Ow-ow-ow-ow-ow...
The others crowd around.
Zeke
You all right?
Rex
(straightening up)
I'm fine, it's just a scratch.
Zeke
Honestly though, chum, are you ever NOT getting scratched up?
Rex
Ever since Pyra gave me half her life force and we swore to reach Elysium, things have been rough.
But...
He remembers the time he and Pyra sat by the fire with their identically-bandaged arms.
Rex
I'm actually glad.
They feel like a sign of...our bond, I guess? Something special we share, as Driver and Blade.
Zeke seems concerned by this answer.

For the Sake of This World[edit]

Pyra is...somewhere, stuck in the grabbing device against a featureless wall. She starts to wake up.
Pyra
Urr...nhhh...
She looks around. The backing wall seems to be set into a circular frame.
Pyra
Where...?
Mythra
(Strung up in some kind of restraint. Look ahead...)
Pyra
?!
There's an object on a pedestal pointed at her. Based on the doors and bricks in the walls of the domed room, it's several stories tall.
Mythra
(An ether accelerator.)
(I've seen one like it before, in old Torna.)
(It certainly seems like they want us gone for good...)
(So.)
(If we cranked up the output and really focused it...)
(we could probably manage one strike.)
Pyra
If the people here really are the descendants of the Tornans...
then I have a message for them that I must pass on.
Mythra
(In that case, I'll leave it to you.)
Pyra
Thank you, Mythra.
Mythra
(He's here.)
Eulogimenos and some aides have come into view around the ether accelerator's base. Now we have the proper sense of scale to see it's even bigger than expected.
Eulogimenos
I apologize for this, noble Aegis. I have no personal grievance with you.
However... For the sake of this world... You must be destroyed where you stand.
Pyra
Is that truly your desire, Your Majesty?
Eulogimenos
I believe you desired the same thing yourself, once.
Is that not why you disappeared from history along with Addam the hero?
Pyra slightly gasps like this is a bit too true.
Eulogimenos
Begin.
The ether accelerator starts to focus yellow energy between its prongs.
Rex
Pyra!
Pyra
Rex!
The party enters the room.
Zeke
The ether accelerator!
Nia
The what now?
Zeke
It's a weapon from long ago... designed to use Genbu's ether energy for destruction.
I never dreamed they'd fully restore it...
My old man... He's gonna use it to kill Pyra!
No matter how strong she is, there'd be no coming back from that!
Rex
In that case...we can't let him use it!
They prepare to face off against the aides.

Tantal's Dark Secret[edit]

Genbu sits atop the Cloud Sea. Inside, the ether accelerator continues to charge. It becomes clear that the wall behind Pyra is actually some sort of lens. The party keeps fighting the Tantalese soldiers.
Rex
Argh...! There's too many of them!
Zeke
Hurry, or Pyra's toast!
Rex
I know that! It's just-
Eulogimenos
Forgive me...
He motions the order to fire. An aide pulls the lever on the control panel.
Rex
Dammit! Pyra!!!
Zeke
I won't let you...!
Zeke leaps atop the ether accelerator and jams his sword into it with a blast of electricity. There's no apparent effect.
Zeke
It's not enough!
Tora
Poppi! Activate QT mode! Lift up from below!
Poppi α
Understood, Masterpon!
Poppi changes modes and flies over to the accelerator's front. She gets under a protrusion and starts to lift.
Tora
Do it! Poppiiii!!!
Poppi QT
Heeeeave...! Hoooo!
The entire accelerator tilts upward. Zeke staggers back as it fires a beam of energy that's oddly thin for the cannon's size but still about a meter thick. Pyra ducks, but the beam passes overhead with safe clearance and into the lens behind. It continues through the body of Genbu, passing through another far larger lens and out through its forehead, lighting up the sky. After about twenty total seconds, the accelerator stops firing, and Poppi puts it down.
Nia
(with relief)
It missed?!
They did it, Rex! They stopped it!
Eulogimenos looks down with more disappointment than anger.
Rex
Yeah!
Zeke leaps forward off the accelerator.
Zeke
Hahh!
He cleaves apart the frame holding Pyra. Rex just barely dives in to catch her.
Rex
(yelling in her face)
Pyra!
Pyra weakly looks up at him. Rex breathes a sigh of relief.
Eulogimenos
Five hundred years...
Eulogimenos
For five hundred years, we Tantalese have concealed the Omega Fetter...
Do you know why?
Rex
...[8]
Eulogimenos
Our old homeland, Torna, was destroyed in the Aegis War.
Our hero, Addam, also failed to return...
You must understand, old Torna as a country was united around the Hero.
But our ancestors, less so...
A flashback plays of when Zeke was taken to the storage room and reacted weirdly strongly. It picks up pretty close to where it left off, but not exactly.
Zeke
What're you saying? That we're not Addam's bloodline?
Eulogimenos
Precisely. In Torna, our family were just a cadet branch.
We only gained our current position in the confusion of the war's aftermath.
Zeke
But then...we're just a bunch of usurpers!
Eulogimenos
They were desperate times.
We had no choice. The nation must continue at all costs.
Zeke
Even if it meant claiming Addam's name?
Eulogimenos
With its guiding force gone, much blood was spilled in Torna.
We did what had to be done to reunite it under the new banner of Tantal...
The flashback ends.
Mòrag
Legends of the hero who saved the world are deeply ingrained in people's hearts...
And you used them for your own political agenda?
Eulogimenos
Even so.
All was done in the name of saving the world from burning once more.
Zeke
Don't you dare try and sugarcoat it.
Short story is, they saw an opportunity to gain influence, and they took it!
Grrr.
Eulogimenos
That is the way of the world.
Brighid
Mor Ardain could easily take a similar path.
Mòrag
Yes...we are in no position to condemn them outright.
Nia
So did this Addam guy really never return?
Eulogimenos
Indeed...
The records indicate he went missing immediately after sealing away the Aegis.
It is likely he simply perished during the journey home.
Pyra
...He didn't just go missing.
Eulogimenos
(hold up)
What did you say, Aegis?
Pyra
Addam... He had foreseen everything.
He knew what would happen to the people after the kingdom fell.
Pyra
But...he chose not to return.
Eulogimenos
Addam left us of his own will? But why?
Pyra removes her left earring - not the one she'd offered to sell so long ago - and holds it out in her palm. It starts to project an emerald hologram of Addam.
Addam
...Hear me, my scions. I am Addam Origo.
This day I seal the Aegis away from the world.
But this seal is not for eternity.
In anticipation of the day that humanity becomes worthy of the Aegis's power...
I entrust her to posterity.
She is our hope...
When mankind has matured, and learned to live better lives...
she will answer your call, and return to you.
Trusting that day will come, I leave my final wish to you...
The message ends. Pyra replaces her earring.
Pyra
Addam foresaw much confusion and hardship in the world ahead.
And when I seemed unsure, he told me something.
"This is a trial..."
There's a flashback of Addam and Pyra in a great stone hall. Addam's crest, alone, is on the back wall.
Pyra
Is me sleeping a part of the trial?
Addam
That's right...
It is a trial for us humans. One we must overcome ourselves.
If we cannot do that, we don't deserve to live alongside you.
The flashback ends.
Eulogimenos
Live alongside...
Pyra
To be honest, I still don't fully understand what he meant by that...
Whether he simply meant the coexistence of humans and Blades, or something more...
But I think he made a difficult choice.
For the sake of everyone's survival...
Elsewhere in Tantal, somewhere in the palace, a series of ether tubes change from calm blue to angry red. The ground jolts.
Rex
Whoa!
The ground continues to shake for several seconds.
Aide
Your Majesty!
Someone runs in from elsewhere. The shaking subsides.
Eulogimenos
What is this?!
Aide
It's Genbu...
It's broken free of our control and started to dive into the clouds!
Eulogimenos
What? Are you certain?!
Pandoria staggers and clutches her chest.
Pandoria
Ungh-!
Zeke
Pandy!
Pandoria
O-oh, no...
Dromarch
What exactly is happening?
Zeke
Could it be...that blast...?!
Nia
What is he...?
Zeke
Tantal keeps Genbu under control using the Omega Fetter.
But firing the ether accelerator...
It could've created a counter-flow in Genbu's ether conduits...
causing a critical overload.
Rex
...So Genbu's broken?
Pandoria
Oh no. My words can't reach him anymore...
Genbu is just going to dive deeper and deeper... Then...
Zeke
Dumb old git! That's what happens when you use antiquated parts!
Rex
The Cloud Sea has a similar density to water.
As we dive, the pressure will keep building.
By 500 peds, a human would be crushed completely...
Dromarch
And all that force will weigh down on Genbu?
Zeke
What's our depth now?!
Aide
Twenty-two hundred peds, Sir!
We are diving at a rate of 120 peds per minute!
Zeke
And Genbu's depth limit?
Aide
25,000, give or take...
Zeke
...That'd give us just over three hours.[9]
Nia
Whoa, Shellhead's good at maths...
Zeke
Bite me.
There's more shaking.
Zeke
This ain't good.
Hey, chum. There's a pressure-resistant pod in the palace's southern tower.
You guys at least should get in and escape.
Rex
What about you and everyone else?
Zeke
Don't worry about us.
Rex
How can I possibly not worry about you?!
Isn't there any other way? Some way to save everyone?!
Zeke
Only Pandoria can tell Genbu what to do.
If it won't budge for her, it's no use.
Apart from that, all we can do is try to evacuate as many people as we can...
But with just three hours...
Pyra
I think you mentioned before... You control Genbu using the Omega Fetter, right?
Zeke
Uh, yeah, but...
Pyra
Where is it?
Zeke
Inside Genbu's head.
It's straight south from the palace, through Genbu's spinal column.
Pyra
I will go.
Zeke
You'll go? Pyra, what are you-
Pyra
The Omega Fetter is originally Ophion's control core.
And Ophion is my Artifice.
I can't be 100% sure, but I think I might be able to fix it.
Rex
Pyra...
Tora
Pyra being serious?
They try to kill Pyra one minute ago!
Pyra
That's a totally separate issue. ...Isn't that what you'd say, Rex?
Rex
Wha-? Oh, yeah. I guess it is.
Pyra
And that's why.
Tora
Friend Pyra...
Tora get it. Then Tora and Poppi also lend help!
Nia
Looks like we're in too. Dromarch?
Dromarch
I would have it no other way.
Nia
That's settled then. Stay out of our way, old man! Got it?
Eulogimenos
(taken aback)
You would all...risk your lives for this?
For the sake of Tantal, though we attempted to destroy the Aegis?
Rex
It's not about Tantal.
Eulogimenos
Then why?
Rex
You're a king, right? You ought to be able to figure it out.
Eulogimenos
Rex, you are...
Rex
Mòrag?
Mòrag
You leave me little choice.
Rex
Zeke, where was the Fetter again? How do we get there?
Zeke
I won't just tell ya. I'll take you right to it!
Eulogimenos
Zeke...
Zeke
Save it, old man. You better make a start on evacuating the people.
Though, with us on the case...
Your efforts are probably going to be wasted!
Eulogimenos
...Understood.
Zeke
No time for chit-chat. Let's go!
Rex
Yeah!

Wherever's the Fetter[edit]

The party suddenly finds themselves back in the main hall of Theoscaldia Palace.
Zeke
Now, the path to the Omega Fetter isn't an easy one.
This city, Theosoir, is positioned a long way above the Genbu Drifts.
If you head out the palace and down to the left, you'll see the ruins of a place called Theospiti Temple.
Poppi α
Ruins? Even though inside city?
Pandoria
Yep. They really are ruined, too. Practically rotted away!
Zeke
Anyway, past the temple ruins is something called the Theosoir Rear Gate. We head out through there.
Then we have to follow the pillars a long way down.
Nia
Urgh... Sounds like a pain in the arse of a journey.
Tora
But must be quick-quick! Come on friends, to Genbu Drifts!
Zeke
Hey, I'm not done yet.
Once we get to Genbu Drifts, we have to head across it.
That gets us to a place called the Great Pillar Passage. The Omega Fetter's at the end of that.
Tora
Sound too long... Tora already getting tired just listening.
Poppi α
Too soon for getting tired, Masterpon!
Rex
This is no time for joking around, Tora.
We have to give this our all, to protect Zeke's home!
Tora
Of course!
Pyra
Right! Let's all do what we can!
Zeke
Thanks, guys. I owe you big time!
Pandoria
So, first we head out of here to the left, got that?
Tora
Tora remember just fine!

The Last State of Humanity[edit]

After a long descent and traversal of Tantal, the group reaches the Great Pillar Passage. Mòrag is deep in thought. The procession stops.
Brighid
Lady Mòrag, you're making that face again.
If you keep frowning like that, you'll get wrinkles.
Mòrag
...I just don't get it.
Tantal was founded by the counter-Addamites.
Then, after the war, they closed themselves off.
But...the way the king was acting... I can't help feeling there's something more to it.
Nia
What, though?
Mòrag
It was the Praetorium who sent us here on this mission.
Why would he go to such lengths to reject it...?
It seemed almost like he wanted to cut ties with them...
Brighid
You think Indol is holding something else over Tantal?
Mòrag
That would be an explanation, yes... Zeke, do you know anything useful?
Zeke
Nope. There's no records from back then.
Mòrag
(to Brighid)
How about you?
Brighid
There is nothing in my journal from that period.
I might have been returned to my core for some reason or other.
Rex
Do you know anything about those days, Gramps?
Gramps
Mmm...? Noo, I was somewhere else at the time.
And matters of human kingdoms and so on didn't interest me much.
Rex
Geez Gramps, what's the point of keeping an old-timer like you around if you don't even know anything?!
Gramps
Sometimes, it's funny how much you sound like Corinne.
Nia
So you think the king wasn't telling us everything?
Brighid
There is a chance.
Dromarch
Do you think it may be related to Jin and his comrades using Torna's name?
Rex thinks about something Jin said back in Temperantia.
Jin
"If you saw the last state of humanity, you'd understand. Now that you have come this far..."
Rex
The last state...
Brighid makes a "Huh?".
Rex
Jin said something about the last state of humanity. I thought he meant, like, an evolution...
y'know, in the future...
but maybe he meant the previous state of humanity?
Brighid
And that is the key to why they fight...?
Rex
Mm.
Pyra
If... If that is the case...
Perhaps I...never should have been sealed away after all...

Artifices, Weapons of the Aegis[edit]

The party reaches the Memorial Ruins.
Rex
What is this place?
Gramps
A battleground from the Aegis War...
There are many things here I remember...
Nia
The walls and floors are melted... Must've been a hell of a battle.
Pyra
Ophion isn't the only Artifice.
You've already seen one other - Siren, the one Mythra commands.
But during the war, there were countless Artifices, wielded by Malos.
A short flashback plays, of a swarm of black dragon-shaped robots with magenta wings flying through the sky.
Rex
So it's a site of a fight against him...
Nia
Say, what are these Artifices, anyway?
We've only actually met Ophion.
We've never even seen Siren, just that light thing it shoots down.
Pyra
They're a power granted to the Aegises. Divine swords sleeping in Elysium, far above us all.
Nia
Hold on. I thought Elysium was a paradise, not a scary weapon stash?
Pyra shakes her head, uncertain.
Pyra
...I don't know.
Nia
Whaddya mean, you don't know?
Pyra
All that I can find in the corners of my memory is that townscape...
I don't know why Father created me, or created the Artifices...
That's what I want to find out...
Nia
Pyra...
Rex
It's OK. We'll find out once we get there.
Nia
I don't think...
Rex
(has decided it's optimism time)
Open a chest, it might turn out great...
But until then, it's just a crate!
That's rule 4 of the Salvager's Code! Haha.
Nia
(more confused than anything)
Rex...
Comparing Elysium to dirty old sea junk...

The Struggle for the Fetter[edit]

At the end of a long passage is a clearing called Genbu Crown.
Pandoria
My Prince, look over there.
There's a dome-shaped building, somewhat different in style from the other buildings in Tantal.
Zeke
Would you look at that. I guess we've arrived.
Nia
Whoa, it looks way older than the palace...
Dromarch
Yes, it seems untouched by the ravages of time...
The party steps up to the door. Zeke nods at Pandoria, who focuses. The door opens without issue, and they head inside.
Zeke
That's it.
There's a motionless mass of concentric golden rings hovering above a pedestal, layered so tightly they look like a sphere. Zeke puts his hand to a nearby podium with Addam's crest on it. The rings spin together and lift out of the way, revealing an angry-looking red mass of crystalline shards.
Rex
Looks like a Core Crystal...
Is that the Omega Fetter...?
Pyra
Yes. That's Ophion's control core.
It was originally a conduit that I used to communicate with Ophion.
There's a rumble, in case anyone forgot there was a problem outside.
Brighid
We have to hurry.
Pyra
Yes, you're right.
She switches to Mythra. She mutters, then reaches her hand out towards it.
Rex
Well? Can you fix it?
Mythra
Shut up.
Rex
I'm sorry...
A faint stream of red particles flows from the Fetter towards Mythra. The whole thing starts to glow brightly, before there's a blue flash. The angry-looking spikes have been completely replaced with a blue cube that looks much more like a Core Crystal. Mythra staggers back slightly from exertion.
Mythra
Hmmm...
Rex
...Mythra?
Mythra turns around and just smiles.
Rex
(without moving his mouth)
Whoa...
Pandoria
In that case...
Pandoria focuses. There's another rumble.
There's a shot of Genbu in the sea outside, though it's impossible to see what exactly's going on.
Mòrag
Are we...rising?
Pandoria
All right! Prince, I've told Genbu to resume circling the Cloud Sea once he's done rising.
Zeke
Nice. Looks like we made it after all.
Tora
Oh! Great news!
Phew, Tora was not look forward to becoming flat as Argentum Monkfish.
Nia
A job well done, eh?
Pandoria
Hey, Rex. You can remove that thing now.
Rex
Hm.
Rex walks up and takes the cube into his hand.
The party leaves the building. It's now nighttime.
Akhos
So it was hidden all the way out here... No wonder we couldn't find it.
Rex lets out a "What-!" halfway through the line. Akhos, Patroka, and Mikhail are waiting for them.
Akhos
I'd just been wondering whether it was time to make an exit... Thanks for saving me the trouble.
Patroka
Lovely to see that tedious woman isn't here to get in our way this time!
Mikhail
Care to join me in a dance of death, Nia?
He spins around in ways that are very zesty and winks.
Nia
(-_-)
I think I just threw up in my mouth a bit.
Mikhail
Mean little girl.
Rex
You've come for the Fetter, haven't you.
Mikhail
Perceptive, kid.
Nia
Condescending much? It's not like there's anything else here.
Mikhail
You are SO mean.
Akhos
Now, hand it over nicely...
...would be the classic line, but no.
I'm not letting you escape with your lives. For Jin's sake.
Mythra
Where are Jin and Malos, anyway? There are a few things I need to ask them.
Akhos
Frankly, I don't think they've got much interest in what you have to say.
Mythra
Sure about that?
Akhos
Quite sure, yes.
Zeke
Not to interrupt the verbal sparring...
but how do you plan on doing anything without your Blades?
We're no pushovers, you know.
Akhos
Oh, we're quite aware of that.
We just don't need them, you see.
Zeke
Explain yourself.
Akhos holds a reddish crystal in his hand. It glows and spawns the bow he was seen with when he rescued Jin. A similarly-shaped Core Crystal, blue with red splotches, is now visible on his chest. Patroka and Mikhail then do the same - Patroka creating a long poleaxe and Mikhail (lacking the red the other two have) a pair of fans.
Zeke
Core Crystals?!
Rex
They're Blades?!
Mòrag
Worse- Flesh Eaters...
Akhos
Bravo! Very good!
We've had many an interruption in the past...
but here, that seems less likely. So let's go all out.
Nia
You can try, but I assure you, we won't go down easy.
Akhos
I wouldn't have it any other way.
Like I said, all out.
They all ready for battle.

Jin's True Form[edit]

The good guys are winning. The bad guys are downed.
Akhos
Inconceivable! How could we...
Patroka
(way too loud)
These rats...
Zeke
Warned ya, didn't we? You mess with Thunderbolt Zeke, that's whatcha get.
You brought this on yourselves.
Akhos
Ughhh...
Zeke
Anyway, this has gone on long enough. Nighty night, chaps.
Very much looking forward to interrogating you later!
Here I go! Bringer of Chao-
Jin appears behind Zeke and makes to stab him. Zeke notices just in time and makes some movement, only being hit in the right side rather than somewhere important. He grabs the wound and moans.
Rex
Jin?! Where did he-
Jin
Seems they don't call you "Thunderbolt" for nothing. That's the first time I've ever missed a vital point...
Zeke pants heavily as he gets up.
Zeke
Hrk... You bastard!
He takes a swipe at Jin, but Jin just kinda wavedashes through him to end up beside the other members of Torna. Zeke meanwhile ends up in Pandoria's arms.
Pandoria
Prince!
Zeke
Don't worry yourself... It's just a scratch, really...
Akhos
Jin, are you OK?
Malos
Relax, he's not made of glass.
Malos is apparently also here, leaning back against one of the nearby pillars.
Mythra
Malos?!
Malos
Don't mind me, I'm just a spectator.
He, on the other hand, insisted on coming here...
to settle a score.
Mythra
Jin did?
Jin
Correct. You will give me both the Omega Fetter and the Aegis.
Rex
You just try and take 'em! I know you're strong...
but there's no way we're giving you Pyra or Mythra!
Jin
You have power, boy. But words do little.
If you know what you desire, you will have to show it...
not with words, but with your own strength!
His Core Crystal glows as a blizzard surrounds him.
Jin's body flashes white as his outfit changes. He now wears dark gray armor with organic shapes, an open chest that reveals a large gash, and two pairs of bat-like wings coming out his tailbone. While this is going on, Genbu crests the Cloud Sea, causing the moon to shine down through the window above.
Rex
Is that Jin's true form?!
Dromarch
What enormous energy...
Poppi α
There no change to ether energy of surroundings.
That energy being emitted from interior of body.
Nia
Just like our Pyra, then? Where do they even keep all that energy?
Zeke
(straightening up)
How about all that rage energy he's got all pent up inside?
Rex
No, that's not it... It's...
Jin flicks his sword, sending out a wave of icy wind.
Mòrag
Watch out, here he comes!

The Taking of Pyra[edit]

The party stands completely still while slashing graphics surround them. After a few seconds, they all fall down like they got beaten up, except for Rex and Mythra. Jin is then shown super-speeding away from them, so presumably that was something he did. Mythra uses Foresight to show Rex how Jin's going to attack next, but Jin just disappears when Rex tries to counter and appears beside him.
Rex
Gah-!
Rex foresees another slash and parries it. The two then clash blades for a while, which Rex shortly loses and gets knocked back.
Rex
Whaaa-!
Mythra
Aaarh-!
They both fall down.
Malos
With wounds like that, they're done for. It's their biggest weakness.
Jin
Your struggle is pointless.
My power gives me control over all elementary particles.
Rex
Parti-what?
Jin
Heh. This allows me to accelerate my body to the speed of light.
No matter how far ahead you can predict, your movements themselves are limited.
You are no match for me.
Rex basically ignores him and steels himself.
Rex
Mythra...!
Mythra
I'm still here...
Rex, we have to...slow him down.
Match light speed with light speed...
Rex
Got it!
They get up.
Rex
OK! Here we go!
Uuuwaaagh!
Rex leaps in and fires a projectile. It hits Jin and does nothing. Mythra leaps back and has Siren unleash its beam attack. Everyone else grunts on impact.
Rex
We do it?!
The light clears to show that Jin is just standing there, the laser beam stopping at his raised sword, like that kid in the schoolyard going "nuh-uh I still win because I said so".
Rex
Ah!
Jin
Didn't I tell you? I can manipulate elementary particles.
And the Aegis's attacks are nothing but a stream of particle energy...
The particles that form it are too heavy to truly reach light speed.
He drops his sword as the beam stops firing.
Jin
The result is obvious.
Rex
(not even pretending to listen)
Ohh no... Mythra's attack didn't...?
Mythra
Jin...
Jin
It's over, boy.
Rex exhales and steps back a bit.
Jin
Eat this!
Jin dashes forward, breaking Mythra's barrier in one shot, and delivers many quick slashes to the both of them.
Rex
Gaaah!
Rex is sent backwards. Mythra's sword breaks into several pieces, Rex being left with only the handle. (Which is whatever, we already know Blade weapons can be recreated with little effort.) Both Rex and Mythra fall to the ground.
Mythra
Aieegh-!
Pyra comes out but remains unmoving.
Nia
Rex! Pyra!
Someone else finally decided to do something. Nia starts running towards them, but is blocked by Akhos, Patroka, and Mikhail. Something big then drops from above and lands on her.
Nia
Ugh-!
It's some sort of humanoid robot with orange wings. Dromarch tries to approach but gets landed on by another one. Many more come down from the sky and attack the party. Zeke and Mòrag get a hit in but are quickly restrained like the rest of them.
Mòrag
Gah! Th-these are...
Tora
A-artificial Blades!
Mòrag
Of course... That's why you were at Bana's factory!
You won't win...so easily!
Mòrag decides that the bad guys have done enough blatant cheating for once scene. She focuses the azure flames and throws off the Blade Bot holding her, then leaps at Mikhail.
Mikhail
Uwagh!
Mikhail does some sort of exaggerated motion that allows him to dodge the attack and grab Mòrag by the neck.
Mòrag
Ugh...
Brighid
Lady Mòrag!
Mikhail has one of his fans raised in the other hand.
Mikhail
Whoa! You're quite a looker from up close...
Killing you will be such a waste.
He brings the weapon close to her face.
Mòrag
Let me go...you pig!
Rex
S-stop...it...
Rex goes "Gah!" as Jin steps on his head.
Jin
I'm surprised you're still breathing.
Relax. You'll be able to rest after I've pried that Core Crystal from your chest.
He sticks his sword into the ground in front of Rex's face.
Rex
I...won't die here...
I have to reach...Elysium...
I have to find... the answers we're all looking for...
Mikhail seems intrigued.
Jin
What answers?
In this world, there are no answers.
He puts his foot down harder.
Rex
Gwa-!
Pyra
E-enough...
I'm the one that you want, isn't that right?
Pyra stumbles to her feet.
Pyra
Leave them...out of this...
Mikhail lets go of Mòrag with a toss and starts to overact again.
Mikhail
Aw, look, what a touching scene.
Are you going to beg for their lives?
Malos
No mockery, Mik. This is serious business.
Pyra
Put the sword away, Jin.
If not, I'll...
Jin
You'll do what, exactly?
Pyra
I will...
annihilate myself.
Nia
What?!
Pyra
You need me alive...
don't you, Malos?
Malos pushes himself off the wall like he's bored and disappointed, and approaches a bit.
Malos
Hah. You worked that much out, did you? Well done.
But how would you make good on that threat?
You don't have that kind of...
Pyra's crystals glow as a dangerous-sounding magenta light surrounds her.
Pyra
Are you so sure...about that?
Malos
(doesn't sound at all shocked)
This is a shock.
I didn't think you had it in you...
Patroka
What's going on?
Malos
She's controlling Mythra's Artifice herself...
The magenta light is a beam from above being shone by Siren.
Akhos
She's controlling Siren through sheer...willpower?
Jin
...Go ahead. I'll deflect it with my powers, just like before.
Pyra
You could do that... If I used the particle cannon itself.
But this is the targeting ray.
It moves at the speed of light.
And if I turn up the output just a little...
that light alone has enough power to annihilate a single Blade.
Jin
You...
Pyra
One signal from me...
and my body will be scoured from this world.
Faster than you can blink.
So? ...Jin?
Jin
...How unexpected.
That you, an Aegis, would say something like that.
So you'll do it? Open the gates to Elysium for us?
Pyra
Yes. If that is your wish.
Rex
Don't, Pyra! They'll just-
Jin stomps him again.
Rex
Grhhn-!
Pyra
(final offer)
Jin!
The targeting ray thins. Pyra's fist starts to glow yellow-hot. Somehow none of the snow melts. Jin thinks about it. He looks at Malos, who communicates nothing. Finally, he takes his sword out of the ground.
Jin
Very well...
Jin steps away from Rex. Pyra takes a deep breath and turns off the ray. She then starts to approach Rex.
Pyra
...
Nia
Pyra-!
Pyra
Nia...
Keep Rex safe for me.
Nia
N-no, no way! I don't agree to this!
Brighid chooses to voice her opinion by opening her eyes. Pyra kneels down beside Rex.
Pyra
I'm really sorry, Rex...
She starts to rifle through his person.
Rex
P-Pyra... But why...
She takes the Omega Fetter and gets up. She takes a few steps towards Jin and then collapses in exhaustion. Jin catches her. Rex starts trying to get up.
Rex
P-Pyra...
Jin
Look at the state of you...
Rex
...!
Jin
You hadn't even noticed?
Your own Blade has been wounded so deeply...
and all you can think of is yourself.
Rex
Agh...
Jin
You awakened the Aegis...
I thought you might have been different.
But you're just...
a fool.
Rex makes some sort of breathy noise.
Jin
A pitiful, childish...
fool.
Jin turns away. Rex starts to crawl towards him, but a blast of snow impedes him, from the Blade Bots all starting to take off. Once he can open his eyes again, all of Torna are gone, taking Pyra with them. He finally stands up, breathing heavily.
Rex
(yelling into the sky)
Pyra...
Pyyyraaaaa-!
Chapter Six:
Wounds
Something can be heard falling to the ground.

Notes[edit]

  1. There is a significant amount of unused text at this point in the text file, in which someone (likely Nia) questions why Zeke should join, and is reminded that the's the prince of Tantal. The banter continues at various points both here and later in the script that would've about doubled the scene's length.
  2. While this man's name is never referred to in the game itself, he is named in the code.
  3. Akhos does three "heh"s, not just one.
  4. This very distinctly comes out as "doesn't" rather than "does not".
  5. Sounds like shocked breathing.
  6. The game erronously uses the "broken" Core Crystal model.
  7. This is again incorrectly the cracked model.
  8. Comes out as a very soft "ummm".
  9. This is indeed correct; 25,000 would be reached after 3 hours 10 minutes.
