The tenth chapter of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is where the party finally reaches Elysium - in a way that no one could have expected. And thus, boy met girl.
This page is divided into sections based on the Events Theater. Scenes not in the Events Theater (such as story quests or unvoiced dialogue) are shown as italic headers and given unofficial titles.
The Birth of a Universe[edit]
A spire ascends from the planet below to a space station. It is Year 20XX - The Beanstalk, First Low Orbit Station: Rhadamanthus. Presumably that makes this a flashback. Voices begin to be heard.
Man 1
Heat-seeking warhead - we've been hit.
A series of explosions begins against the backdrop of atmosphere.
Man 1
Sensing Coriolis deviation across orbital ring.
Reading shift to west-by-northwest, magnitude comma two.
Reading shift to west-by-northwest, magnitude comma two.
The inside of the station is a mess of activity. Two people run into each other trying to hustle along.
Woman 1
Correcting tower balance.
Releasing anchor bolt 127 through 214.[1]
Releasing anchor bolt 127 through 214.[1]
Dozens of people in modern suits sit at beeping consoles and talk hurriedly to each other. Elsewhere but perhaps near, there is a bright yellow floating rectangle with tiny protrusions on the sides that make it resemble an Aegis Core Crystal, hovering above a platform with threefold rotational symmetry. It seems that energy is flowing into it. Outside, the explosions are revealed to be mechs fighting. A bulky dark mech with a halo much like Siren is destroyed by opposing fire, while other mechs fight that look very much like Siren itself.
Woman 2
Echelon Siren losses now exceed 60%.
Man 2
Director, the Beanstalk cannot hold!
The Saviorite rebels are very close to capturing it!
The Saviorite rebels are very close to capturing it!
The presumed director makes a tough decision and stands up.
Director
We have no choice.
Initialize Aion.
Initialize Aion.
The idle two-sided mech of opposing colors is seen for a moment.
Director
Prepare the Conduit.
Woman 2
Roger!
The director watches the status viewscreen for a moment. There's a new error-like beep.
Man 3
...Director! The Conduit's authorization has failed!
Director
How come?
Man 3
We're locked out by Professor Klaus.
We can't secure access from our side!
We can't secure access from our side!
Director
What did you say?!
In another room, a man in a lab coat pours over a giant console. This must be the Klaus they mentioned.
Klaus
Trinity Processor synch rate at 96%...
That should be good enough.
That should be good enough.
He looks out the window in triumph to where the big yellow rectangle floats.
Klaus
Let's begin the experiment!
Someone else in a lab coat, Galea, steps up from behind.
Galea
Professor, no! The results have not been confirmed!
It's too dangerous!
It's too dangerous!
Klaus slowly turns to face her as he speaks.
Klaus
Ridiculous.
It's perfectly safe.
We are about to bear witness to the birth of a universe.
Once, only a god could perform such a miracle.
But today, mankind moves one step closer to the divine!
It's perfectly safe.
We are about to bear witness to the birth of a universe.
Once, only a god could perform such a miracle.
But today, mankind moves one step closer to the divine!
Galea
Are you serious?
Do you even fully understand that thing?
Do you even fully understand that thing?
Klaus
What's the alternative? Do you want to just surrender this place to them?
The Conduit is a gift from some divine entity.
It is a gateway...
A gateway that will take us to an entirely new world.
The Conduit is a gift from some divine entity.
It is a gateway...
A gateway that will take us to an entirely new world.
He turns back around.
Galea
You're delusional...
"Divine entity"?
The Conduit is nothing more than a meta-universe manifold!
"Divine entity"?
The Conduit is nothing more than a meta-universe manifold!
She steps up real close behind him like this'll help get through to him better.
Klaus
Galea... We humans are fools.
We've ravaged the planet...
We are on the verge of burning even the skies above.
But the Conduit...could transform us into something so much more!
We've ravaged the planet...
We are on the verge of burning even the skies above.
But the Conduit...could transform us into something so much more!
He pushes her away. She splays on the floor.
Klaus
Galea, this is the birth of a brand-new universe!
Galea
Stop! Klaus!
He makes the final input. The yellow rectancle, the Conduit, energizes. A blue sphere of energy emits from the space station and circles the Earth. The surface of the planet glows white. The scene cuts to a distance as the light winks out but then detonates, creating an outburst of energy.
In a big dark room, there is a person in the middle. Only the silhouette of the right side of his face is visible. His voice sounds kind of like Klaus's.
???
Fools indeed...
Zoomed out a bit, it seems he's sitting in the air and has glowing bits on his back. The noise of great machinery echoes from the distance.
???
The time has come...
At the Endpoint[edit]
Tora
It stop moving...
Dromarch
Perhaps we've arrived at the endpoint?
Poppi α
If we go outside, we find out.
Rex
Good point. Let's have a look.
The doors open and the group exits into a large room with the elevator in the middle. The near wall is transparent. They walk up to it.
Nia
Look up!
The sky is black and full of stars. A rail extends from the structure and disappears into the distance.
Brighid
The stars... They're close enough to touch...
Looking down shows just how high up they are - the curvature of the planet is visible, and nothing but white clouds cover the surface.
Zeke
The other view is quite something, too. Look at the Cloud Sea all the way down there...
Rex
So this is the top of the World Tree...
A bell rings in the distance.
Rex
Ahh...! That sound...!
Rex and Pyra nod at each other.
Nia
Huh? What is that?
Rex
It's Elysium...
Nia
Elysium?!
Rex remembers seeing Pyra alone on the tree on the hill. He turns around.
Rex
This way. Let's check it out.
The scene returns to the floating man who sounds like Klaus. There's a door in the room in front of him, and Malos stands there. It's still too dark to see anything clearly.
Malos
It's been a while, "Father"...
If Malos is calling him "Father", this must be the Architect.
Architect
Logos...
Malos approaches.
Malos
Is that my real name? What's it mean, "Logos"?
Architect
It has no meaning. All it represents is the ego of those who named you.
Malos
Hah... How many years has it been...?
Architect
I forget. It has been far too long...
Malos
You know why I'm here, don't you?
Architect
I know it all. All that you experience is passed on to me here.
Malos
...Then let's get straight to the point.
He fires a ball of shadow energy at the Architect. It stops before hitting him as if there were a wall in the way. Malos goes "Hngh-?!".
Architect
No need to rush, my child.
I am fading. I'll be gone...soon enough...
I am fading. I'll be gone...soon enough...
Malos
Is that right...?
He thinks about it for a moment.
Malos
Then I'll take it all.
Architect
Do as you wish. If you believe that is your role...
Malos scoffs.
Malos
Is that choice really "mine"?
Answer me. This is what I came to hear.
Answer me. This is what I came to hear.
Architect
...It is a choice you made together.
Malos
Good answer.
Thanks for creating me.
Thanks for creating me.
Malos leaves.
Architect
Ah, and here comes the other answer...
Reaching Elysium[edit]
The party reaches the end of a long hallway as the bell continually rings. The tall double door opens, revealing a pinkish glass sky.
Nia
It sure is bright.
Rex
Yeah...it's right through here. I'm sure of it.
We've almost reached Elysium...
We've almost reached Elysium...
As they walk out, the metal floor turns to sand. Rex runs up a hill and comes to a stop at the top. The others quickly follow.
Rex
Wh-what is this place?!
Pyra
No...
They stand where they should be, atop a hill with a tree. A lake, a bunch of hills, and a small town with a church are in the distance, alongside other structures of more advanced design. But all the water is gone, and with it, the life. The trees are bare and hardened, the buildings are mostly collapsed, the surface is nothing but brown and gray. Elysium is a desert that has been dead and empty for many years.
Rex
(shook)
(shook)
...Can this place really be Elysium...?
Where's the greenery? The water? Birdsong?
There's nothing... Nothing here at all!
Where's the greenery? The water? Birdsong?
There's nothing... Nothing here at all!
Gramps
What a wretched sight...
I have not seen anything like this in all my years on Alrest...
I have not seen anything like this in all my years on Alrest...
Rex
P-Pyra?!
Pyra
(equally confused and frustrated)
(equally confused and frustrated)
I don't understand...
I don't get it!
This... This is not how I...remember...
I don't get it!
This... This is not how I...remember...
Mòrag
That bell sound must be coming from somewhere. Is someone here?
Brighid
Hmm...
Poppi α
Over there...
Poppi detect one big thing, kind of like building, over that direction.
Poppi detect one big thing, kind of like building, over that direction.
She has correctly identified the church. It's in much better shape than the rest of the ruins.
Poppi α
Sound seem like it come from there.
Zeke
That building, eh?
Then there's no point hanging around here.
Then there's no point hanging around here.
Pandoria
Yeah... Only one way to find out.
Let's go, Rex.
Let's go, Rex.
Rex
All right.
It might still be OK. Maybe it's just this bit that's destroyed...
It might still be OK. Maybe it's just this bit that's destroyed...
Pyra makes a breath of being not convinced.
Rex
There's bound to be something over that way.
Paradise, Lost[edit]
The more modern-looking ruins are clear in the distance as the group goes through the wasteland.
Dromarch
This place looks like it was once a city, and quite an old one at that.
Zeke
It's actually a lot like the stuff we saw in Morytha...
Nia
Way more dusty, though. Maybe because it's so dry up here.
Rex goes "Uh?" as he spots something: a tricycle. He touches it, and it disintegrates.
Pyra
It seems to have been a child's vehicle.
Rex
Right...
So that means... People lived here, once.
So that means... People lived here, once.
Mòrag
It must've been a grand old city.
It stretches further than the eye can see...
You could fit...the entire population of Alrest into this place, and with room to spare...
It stretches further than the eye can see...
You could fit...the entire population of Alrest into this place, and with room to spare...
Ruined Church, Silenced Bell[edit]
The party gets to the church. The bell is fairly loud now.
Rex
Is that it...?
The bell then stops.
Rex
The bells have stopped...
The church door opens by itself.
Gramps
A signal we should enter, perhaps?
Rex
We probably should.
They go inside. It's empty.
Architect
(unseen)
(unseen)
Welcome home...my children.
Rex
Who's there?!
Pyra
Father...?
Rex
What? You don't mean...!
Mòrag
The Architect is here...? But where?
Architect
(unseen)
(unseen)
I am always here. Come to me...
The altar moves back, revealing a downard passage. Based on the metallic composition, it's not part of the city of Elysium, but goes deeper into the space station.
Poppi α
Please look! Over there, is staircase!
Mòrag
It seems to lead to a lower level.
Rex
Hmm... Guess we have to.
Beneath the Church, Friends Gone[edit]
At the bottom of an extremely long escalator is just a room that leads to a hall. It's dark and bland, like a backroom that most people shouldn't be in.
Nia
...The building's holding up well inside.
Tora
Quality of structural materials much better than in city outside.
This made of same substance as World Tree itself!
This made of same substance as World Tree itself!
Rex
Same as the World Tree...?
Rex blinks and he's suddenly alone. There was no sound, flash of light, or anything - everyone else is just gone.
Rex
Uh... Huh? Hey, where is everyone?
Pyra! Gramps!
Pyra! Gramps!
He decides to run down the hall forward.
Rex
Pyra! Mythra!
Rex suddenly finds himself somewhere else, presumably outside. He immediately gets run over and pushed aside by a platoon of soldiers.
Rex
Eh-? Uwaagh-!
The background looks Ardainian, as do the soldiers.
Rex
What is that, the Ardainian Imperial Army?
But their equipment looks ancient... Like it's come from the past...
What is up with this place...?
But their equipment looks ancient... Like it's come from the past...
What is up with this place...?
He then spots a human skull next to him, and recoils with a "Wah!". Then he realizes there's several around him, so he gets up and runs away.
Rex
Yaaaaaaagh-!
Rex runs for a while, breathing hard, and eventually stops to rest. Somehow he's now in Torigoth. The Nia and Dromarch appear behind him, looking on-edge. He turns and is relieved.
Rex
Nia! Dromarch! I'm so glad you're-
Nia
...Why, Rex?
Rex goes "Huh?".
Nia
You told us Elysium was real.
Dromarch
My lady and I traveled all this way at your behest.
Master Rex, did you intentionally deceive us?
Master Rex, did you intentionally deceive us?
Nia
I trusted you, you know... I came here because I trusted you!
Rex
N-Nia, Dromarch, what are you talking about?
Nia
How do you explain this?!
Rex
Y-you've got it wrong! I told you, I promised Pyra to-
Nia
(more and more frenzied)
(more and more frenzied)
Pyra? Oh right, Pyra...
Pyra...Pyra, Pyra, Pyra! Is that it?
You've only got eyes for her! Get your head out of your arse!
Pyra...Pyra, Pyra, Pyra! Is that it?
You've only got eyes for her! Get your head out of your arse!
Rex
Nia, y-you're being weird. What is going on?
Dromarch
My lady has given up everything for you...
Yet still you realize nothing.
Even now, you cannot see.
Yet still you realize nothing.
Even now, you cannot see.
Nia
I've been here all along! Why won't you realize?!
Look! Just look at me, Rex!
Look! Just look at me, Rex!
She pulls her weapons up and attacks.
Rex Runs Away[edit]
For some reason Rex is allowed to fight with Pyra's sword in the cutscene, but not in gameplay. He gets Nia downed.
Rex
I... I'm sorry...
Nia
Answer me, Rex! Why did you lie to us?!
Dromarch
How could you betray our trust?!
Rex turns and bolts.
Rex
Aa- Aaaaagh!
He keeps running to exhaustion again. He's also somehow back in Alba Cavanich.
Rex
Why would... Nia...and Dromarch...
Mòrag
You really are a fool.
Rex looks up with a "Whah!". Mòrag and Brighid are just there. And angry.
Rex
Mòrag, Brighid...?
He somehow only now realizes he's in a different place.
Rex
Huh? Mor Ardain?
Mòrag
You're so thoughtless.
Rex
Mòrag...
Mòrag
Here you are, wasting time, and all the while my countrymen are...
Brighid
Do you have any idea what you've done?
Rex
W-what do you...
Mòrag
You just run ahead, without a thought for anyone else, and this is the result...
There's a rumbling. The ground under Rex breaks apart and he falls.
Rex
Whaaagh-!
He lands in the Land of Morytha.
Rex
Gah!
Urghh...
Urghh...
He gets up to see Mòrag and Brighid waiting for him. Still angry.
Mòrag
I couldn't save anyone...
If only we hadn't come here, I could have saved my people... I could have saved Niall...
If only it weren't for you, Rex!
If only we hadn't come here, I could have saved my people... I could have saved Niall...
If only it weren't for you, Rex!
She draws her weapons.
Rex
M-me...? I didn't mean to-
Brighid
I hope you're happy now.
You've dragged us to some empty ruins!
I hope that was worth everything we sacrificed!
You've dragged us to some empty ruins!
I hope that was worth everything we sacrificed!
Rex Runs Away Again[edit]
Rex is not having fun fighting his friends.
Rex
Please, stop this...
What's the use in fighting amongst ourselves now?!
What's the use in fighting amongst ourselves now?!
Mòrag
What's the use...?
For vengeance! What more reason do I need?!
For vengeance! What more reason do I need?!
Rex
Wha-?!
Brighid
That's right... We must take our vengeance...
For the thousands of lives you have stolen...
For the thousands of lives you have stolen...
Rex
I...killed...?
N-no, wait! I didn't-
N-no, wait! I didn't-
Mòrag
I'll have your life for an apology, Rex.
He decides to once again quickly leave the situation.
Rex
Whaaaaagh-!
Brighid
Stop right there! How dare you run!
Rex runs through a dark foggy void.
Rex
What is this place...? What's wrong with everyone...?
Pyra, Mythra... Gramps... Where are you? Where are you guys?!
Pyra, Mythra... Gramps... Where are you? Where are you guys?!
Suddenly he's at the Gotrock Oracle Ruins. He looks around, confused.
Tora
Why Rex-Rex run?
He turns to see another subset of the party.
Rex
Tora...
Poppi... Zeke and Pandoria... Don't tell me you're all...
Poppi... Zeke and Pandoria... Don't tell me you're all...
Zeke
You having fun, chum?
Playing the hero like the kid you are, stringing us adults along...
Playing the hero like the kid you are, stringing us adults along...
Rex
T-that's not-
Tora
Rex-Rex is bad friend.
Why Rex-Rex become Driver, when Tora cannot become Driver?
Tora try so hard, and for what? It useless!
Why Rex-Rex become Driver, when Tora cannot become Driver?
Tora try so hard, and for what? It useless!
Poppi α
Masterpon is right.
Rex just have a little luck and become Driver of Aegis?
Poppi never ask to be born as imitation...
Poppi want to be real, too!
Not fair!
Rex just have a little luck and become Driver of Aegis?
Poppi never ask to be born as imitation...
Poppi want to be real, too!
Not fair!
Pandoria
I bet it felt real good, didn't it?
Getting special treatment from everyone, getting chosen by the Aegis...
Who decided you should have all that power?
How about you hand it over to the Prince right now.
He deserves it.
Getting special treatment from everyone, getting chosen by the Aegis...
Who decided you should have all that power?
How about you hand it over to the Prince right now.
He deserves it.
Rex
Stop it already! I did nothing wrong to any of you!
Zeke
So you haven't worked that out, either?
In your hurry to get here, you never stopped to consider...
all the things you left lying in your wake!
In your hurry to get here, you never stopped to consider...
all the things you left lying in your wake!
Memories of This Planet[edit]
Rex is getting tired of this.
Rex
Enough! Stoooooop!!!
He fires a shot at the others. There's a bang, and when it fades, he can't see them anymore.
Rex
Ah...
T-Tora! Poppi!
T-Tora! Poppi!
He runs towards where they were and starts digging through rubble.
Rex
(frenzied)
(frenzied)
No...I never wanted this! Zeke! Pandoria!
He keeping digging like mad.
Gramps
(unseen)
(unseen)
What are you doing, Rex?
Rex suddenly finds himself digging through nothing. He goes "Wha...?" as he looks up to see he's on Gramps's back, Gramps the Titan as he was before this whole adventure started. It's the middle of the night.
Rex
Gramps-!
Gramps turns to look to the left. Rex follows.
Rex
This place-
There's a strange animal-like sound in the distance. Exactly like the start of the game, a Titan appears in the distance and dies, flopping down into the Cloud Sea. Gramps then speaks with the voice of his larval form.
Gramps
What is the point...?
Rex
Uh, Gramps?
Gramps
What is the point of us, really?
We are born as Blades, then return to our slumber,
again and again, over countless years...
until we become Titans, to wander this world for countless more...
and at the end of it all, we sink into nothingness.
Have you ever thought about it?
What it means to exist for close to an eternity, with no clear purpose or goal...

What it means to exist for close to an eternity, with no clear purpose or goal...
Rex
That's-
Gramps
Must be nice to be human...
Living for a limited time,
thinking limited thoughts... it must be so much easier.
I envy your kind...
Just think, Rex, would you?
What would you do if you were me?
Would you be happy to drift around the ocean with a human on your back?
Is that all I am to be?

Rex
(almost whimpering at this point)
(almost whimpering at this point)
I-I don't know how I'm supposed to answer that!
Why are you asking me?!
You're being strange... Everyone's acting so strange!
Why are you asking me?!
You're being strange... Everyone's acting so strange!
Rex opens his eyes to find he's back in Fonsett. The dark and echo that was draped over the past few scenes has lifted. He cautiously opens the door of Corinne's House.
Pyra
Welcome back!
Both Pyra and Mythra are here. It looks like dinner will be happening soon.
Mythra
You're late, Rex! Where did you wander off to?
Rex
(hesitantly)
(hesitantly)
Pyra, Mythra...
Pyra goes to fetch him at the door.
Pyra
Come on, let's go ahead and eat.
She gently pulls him inside.
Pyra
I've cooked up a whole bunch of your favorites, I hope you've got room!
Rex slowly sits down at the table. Pyra goes over to the kitchen. Mythra ladles something presuably soup-like into a bowl.
Mythra
Well, eat up!
She holds it out to him. He eventually puts it downn in front of himself. Mythra grabs the breadbasket.
Mythra
Which kind of bread do you want?
Rex
Oh, ah, um... Maybe this and this-
He points out two breads. She takes them and places them on a plate.
Mythra
There you go.
Rex
Th-thanks...
Something is sizzling on the stove as Pyra works.
Mythra
Hey, do you want some wine?
She picks up the wine bottle.
Mythra
Oops, you're too young. Silly me!
She puts it back down.
Rex
Mythra, has something happened?
Mythra
Whaddya mean?
Rex
It's just, you're a lot nicer than normal...
Mythra
(no hint of sarcasm)
(no hint of sarcasm)
Stop it! I'm always nice to you, aren't I?
Rex
If...if you say so...?
Rex reaches for one of the breads.
Pyra
Hey!
Pyra is bringing plates to the table.
Pyra
Rex, come on!
How can you sit down to eat without washing your hands first? That's a faux pas!
Go wash your hands right now!
How can you sit down to eat without washing your hands first? That's a faux pas!
Go wash your hands right now!
Rex
I, um... Sorry...
He washes his gloved hands in a bucket outside.
Rex
You're acting almost like Mythra today, Pyra...
He returns to see the main course has been served. Pyra is now sitting beside Mythra.
Pyra
(almost like a threat)
(almost like a threat)
Did you scrub them properly?
Rex
Yeah, they're clean.
He sits back down opposite them.
Pyra
Great! OK then, let's eat!
Mythra
Thanks for the food!
Rex
(still feeling awkward)
(still feeling awkward)
Uhm...It looks really good...
Mythra gets started on the meat. Pyra is...holding a bread roll in one hand and taking pinches out of it with the other??? Rex takes a spoon of the soup.
Rex
Tastes even better!
Pyra
Of course it does!
After all, I made it myself.
After all, I made it myself.
Mythra
Maybe I'll try my hand next time.
Pyra
Mythra, no. You know how that always ends.
Mythra
But carbon's good for you!
Anyway, I wanna do something nice for Rex too!
Anyway, I wanna do something nice for Rex too!
Pyra
No cooking! Who's gonna save the world if Rex gets the runs?
Mythra
You're so mean... It was only that one time!
Rex
Um, it's OK, you two.
I don't care who cooks, I'm just happy we're...
I don't care who cooks, I'm just happy we're...
He's trying to figure something out.
Rex
Happy we're...
He's sad now. He puts the soup down and grabs his face, starting to cry.
Pyra
Rex...
Rex
It's so strange...
I don't even know what I'm doing here any more...
Everyone's all wrong... They all said I...
But now...you two...
Did...did I go wrong somewhere...?
I don't even know what I'm doing here any more...
Everyone's all wrong... They all said I...
But now...you two...
Did...did I go wrong somewhere...?
Mythra gets up and goes over to wipe the tears off his face.
Pyra
I think...that's enough.
Please, Father?
Please, Father?
There's a click like a giant spotlight has turned off. The scene cuts to black.
Everyone is in a dark room. Spotlights turn on to illuminate Rex and Pyra.
Everyone is in a dark room. Spotlights turn on to illuminate Rex and Pyra.
Rex
Huh?
Staggered, eveyone else is lit in the same way. They all seem about equally confused.
Rex
You guys...
Nia
R-Rex...
Zeke
Why're we all here? I thought I was...
Architect
I merely wished to examine the shapes of your hearts.
He's in this room, but as usual, it's too dark to see anything.
Rex
That voice...!
A shutter in the roof opens, casting some light on the right side of the Architect. It's still not nearly enough to describe his appearance.
Rex
You're-!
Architect
My name is Klaus. The Architect of this world.
Up close, we can see his hair is blond and his face has a weird texture to it.
Klaus
I have watched over you all this time.
I have seen your thoughts. Your desires. The things you have achieved.
I have seen your thoughts. Your desires. The things you have achieved.
Rex
So you did that, just now?
Klaus
Yes. Those were not your present forms, but alternate possibilities.
Your other selves that lie within. That is what I wanted to see.
Your other selves that lie within. That is what I wanted to see.
Zeke
Our other selves?
You mean we're all thinking stuff like that deep down?
Was that how we really feel?
You mean we're all thinking stuff like that deep down?
Was that how we really feel?
Nia
Then you saw it too?
Zeke
Looks like we were all shown the same kind of stuff.
It creeped me out! What're you trying to prove?
It creeped me out! What're you trying to prove?
Klaus
...Those were the fears you harbor...
Zeke
I don't get it at all!
Dromarch
What was your purpose in showing us this?
Those were not pleasant visions to behold.
Those were not pleasant visions to behold.
Klaus
My only purpose...was to find out...
how mankind has changed...
and where it is headed.
how mankind has changed...
and where it is headed.
Mòrag
And were you disappointed?
From the front, it can be seen that Klaus's face looks weird because it's heavily wrinkled. The current lighting makes it look even stranger.
Klaus
No...
As you stand before me right now... That is who you are.
That is enough.
As you stand before me right now... That is who you are.
That is enough.
Rex
Architect, sir... I came here because I met Pyra.
Is this really Elysium?
Are you really...
Is this really Elysium?
Are you really...
Klaus
I will show you everything.
Memories... Mine, and those of this planet.
Memories... Mine, and those of this planet.
A flashback plays of various parts of the first cutscene of the chapter, chopped up and rearranged.
Klaus
This world was once the stage...
of a struggle for survival that dwarfed this current predicament.
The world was an unseemly place, though glimpses of beauty persisted.
What should people live for?
Who should they live for...?
of a struggle for survival that dwarfed this current predicament.
The world was an unseemly place, though glimpses of beauty persisted.
What should people live for?
Who should they live for...?
An audible breath.
Klaus
They live for themselves.
To harbor desires and struggle to realize them - that is the natural state of man.
But I did not think that was good enough.
I lost hope for mankind.
I searched tirelessly for an outside solution.
And one day, I found it. The Conduit.
Why it chose to appear before us, I do not know.
However, its existence presented a new possibility...

Rex
Possibility?
Klaus
Our world was not the only one.
Endless universes coexist, side by side,
yet all completely unaware of one another.
The Conduit was our link to these foreign worlds...
And I opened that forbidden gateway...
praying that it would change the world...

The flashback ends.
Klaus
You have seen the plain called Morytha, have you not?
That is what remains of my world.
When I opened the Conduit, many people and many things...
disappeared, into distant dimensions.
All that remained here were the ruins of Morytha...
That is what remains of my world.
When I opened the Conduit, many people and many things...
disappeared, into distant dimensions.
All that remained here were the ruins of Morytha...
Klaus
and half of my body.
The lights finally turn on proper, and the camera pulls back. The right side of Klaus is an exceedingly old man, still wearing the rags of his lab coat, several devices implanted into his skin. His left side is completely missing, a swirling dark void attached to him. Everyone recoils in surprise. With the lights now on, there is now a spiderweb of glowing blue lines under the floor.
Rex
Your...body...
Klaus
Half of me lives on in some other dimension.
But...not for much longer.
But...not for much longer.
Mòrag
What do you mean?
Klaus
The moment of my other self's demise draws near.
Pyra
Father, you...
Above Klaus is a cloud of circular blue holograms, much like those of the World Tree.
Klaus
I was a fool.
Because of my foolishness, I lost everything.
Left here, alone and broken, I longed for oblivion... But even that eluded me.
This is my punishment...
Retribution from on high, for the sin I have committed...
Because of my foolishness, I lost everything.
Left here, alone and broken, I longed for oblivion... But even that eluded me.
This is my punishment...
Retribution from on high, for the sin I have committed...
Rex
On high...?
Klaus
There was only one thing I could do...
I had to atone for my sin.
I swore to restore this world.
I had to atone for my sin.
I swore to restore this world.
The room turns black. An animation begins to play that presumably the party can also see, projected by the room.
Klaus
The first thing I created...
was a special particulate substance with the ability to restore deteriorated matter.
was a special particulate substance with the ability to restore deteriorated matter.
Small artificial particles float in a void. A cloudy mass then erputs in the floor.
Klaus
You all know it as the Cloud Sea.
The Cloud Sea can disassemble matter it comes in contact with,
and rebuild it in the image of all the things that once made up this world.
This way, little by little I could rebuild the world I had brought to ruin...

and rebuild it in the image of all the things that once made up this world.
This way, little by little I could rebuild the world I had brought to ruin...
A bright mass of light "scans" down the ruins of Morytha, causing a mass of glowing particles to float off.
Klaus
Next, I began to recreate life.
I gathered miniature vessels containing memories of all this planet's former lifeforms,
I gathered miniature vessels containing memories of all this planet's former lifeforms,
He drops a Core Crystal into the emptiness below. It breaks into pieces, which fall like a meteor shower across an empty Cloud Sea.
Klaus
and I scattered them across the Cloud Sea. These are the Core Crystals.
Particles come togeether in a classic double helix formation.
Klaus
The Crystals bonded with the Cloud Sea's particulate reconstructors...
and formed the nuclei of new life.
and formed the nuclei of new life.
The animation becomes an old parchment.
Klaus
Those nuclei developed into minute lifeforms-
Ink appears on the page, creating images of animals with lines connecting them.
Klaus
the Titans-who would over time grow larger and larger.
Finally, the Titans gave birth
to complex organisms, based on the data in their Core Crystals.
This newly-birthed life, over untold millennia...
Finally, the Titans gave birth
to complex organisms, based on the data in their Core Crystals.
This newly-birthed life, over untold millennia...
At the bottom is a Titan. The path forks upwards as every enemy species in the game is drawn. And at the top are the various tribal creatures and human races. The real-life laws of evolution do not apply; several creatures are simultaneously in completely different branches just to fill the graphic out.
Klaus
evolved into a new breed of mankind.
The animation ends with overlaying this tree of life with the World Tree.
Mòrag
So that's how we came to live in this world...
Klaus
But I did not trust this world, born as it had been.
What if it were to repeat our mistakes?
What if someone like me appeared?
To stave off these doubts, I implemented one final measure.
And so the Blades were born.
What if it were to repeat our mistakes?
What if someone like me appeared?
To stave off these doubts, I implemented one final measure.
And so the Blades were born.
Rex goes "Ah!" as a new animation begins. The three-sided pedestal with three sockets comes into view.
In the top socket is the green Core Crystal of Pyra and Mythra, and in the right socket, Malos's purple one. The left one remains empty.
Klaus
the three cores of the Trinity Processor formed their cornerstone.
However... Ontos triggered a space-time transition event, and disappeared forever.[2]
I was left with the other two, Logos and Pneuma, entrusting them with managing the Blades.
However... Ontos triggered a space-time transition event, and disappeared forever.[2]
I was left with the other two, Logos and Pneuma, entrusting them with managing the Blades.
The animation ends.
Klaus
Malos and Pyra...
Those are the names that you now know them under.
Those are the names that you now know them under.
Pyra
So, I am... Pneuma...
Klaus nods.
Dromarch
'Managing'?
Klaus
The Core Crystals at the heart of each Blade
are tasked with relaying all kinds of information to Logos and Pneuma...
are tasked with relaying all kinds of information to Logos and Pneuma...
Another animation begins. It consists of fragments of many scenes across the game: the dinner at Addam's camp, Lora's knighting, Vandham encountering the party, Rex contemplating awakening Roc and then doing it, Jac awakening a Blade in Torigoth, meeting Wulfric with the Elder Arachno, and finally Vandham taking a Core Crystal from the dead Titan.
Klaus
About the selection pressures of the outside world, and the biological status of their bonded human,
but also the experiences and emotions they share.
As the data continually accrues...
new evolutionary code is sent back to the Core Crystals,
and this code is used to create new, further evolved Blades.
These Blades too become Titans, in time,
and create new generations of lifeforms...
This was the new circle of life I had created.

The animation ends.
Gramps
A grand scheme...
It boggles the mind a tad.
It boggles the mind a tad.
Rex
So we were all born from this endless cycle of life...
To replace the victims of the previous world.
To replace the victims of the previous world.
Klaus
That's right.
But there were also a handful of survivors.
I believe you saw them when you were in Morytha.
The unfortunate ones who clung to life...
But there were also a handful of survivors.
I believe you saw them when you were in Morytha.
The unfortunate ones who clung to life...
Rex remembers the Infernal Guldo, and how he found a human-like photo next to it. He goes "Ahh...!".[3]
Rex
You mean those monsters... Were they...originally people?
Klaus
Core Crystals were first conceived as a replacement for human brain cells.
A product of mankind's age-old quest for immortality.
A product of mankind's age-old quest for immortality.
Mòrag
And that's what became of them...? How awful.
Klaus
But that technology became the starting point for the creation of Blades and Titans.
Gramps
So in one sense, their sacrifice was not in vain...
Though not all may see it as such.
Though not all may see it as such.
Dromarch
So, tell us. In the end...
Did we develop as you had hoped?
Did we develop as you had hoped?
Klaus
What do you think?
Dromarch
I...couldn't possibly...
Klaus
Well... Those phantasms which you all experienced earlier...
Those are feelings that lurk in all of your hearts.
...As well as that man, Amalthus's...
Those are feelings that lurk in all of your hearts.
...As well as that man, Amalthus's...
A flashback plays (probably not on the big screen this time) of Amalthus losing his mother.
Klaus
When a person loses something, they cannot help but seek a reason why.
The flashback changes to Amalthus catching the thief he had once saved, and then holding the baby.
Klaus
Within themselves, or in others...
They seek a concrete answer to the question
They seek a concrete answer to the question
The flashback changes to Klaus before he pressed the button.
Klaus
of who they really are, deep inside.
Such a very lonely existence...
Such a very lonely existence...
The flashback changes to Lora being shot, and Jin carrying her away.
Klaus
But perhaps that is what it is to be human...
The flashbacks end.
Klaus
All this data passed through me, and I knew.
Rex hmmms.
Klaus
All of you...
You were not in any way different from us, before.
You were not in any way different from us, before.
Rex makes a noise that suggests this is a bad thing.
Klaus
That's why I did not intervene...
500 years ago, when the man finally arrived here...
I did nothing when he took away Logos and Pneuma.
I stood and watched as Logos, instantiated into Blade form, set out to purge the world.
500 years ago, when the man finally arrived here...
I did nothing when he took away Logos and Pneuma.
I stood and watched as Logos, instantiated into Blade form, set out to purge the world.
Rex
You don't make sense! Didn't you go to all that trouble to rebuild it?
Then why would you-
Then why would you-
Klaus
It is fate.
Rex
Fate?
Klaus
It is fated to happen. It cannot but happen.
My atonement was doomed from the start.
My atonement was doomed from the start.
Pyra
That can't be-
Klaus
I had made my peace with it. Once more, I longed for nothing more than to disappear.
However...
Something has now changed.
And that is you, Rex. You and Pneuma.
However...
Something has now changed.
And that is you, Rex. You and Pneuma.
Rex
Me and...Pyra and Mythra...?
Klaus
You reforged your bond in a way I had not thought possible. And the life you share...
A short flashback plays of Pyra's awakening, of the first time the split Core Crystal was seen.
Klaus
Moreover...
The Conduit, which fell into a stubborn silence after the world's end, has begun stirring once more.
Rex...
The power you and Pneuma exercise is the Conduit's power.
It comes leaking out of some far-flung dimension.
And it is a power we can know nothing about.
But with its help...
The world may be about to change.
Outside the space station, multiple copies of Siren fire their beams down at Earth. The party feels a shaking as it happens.
Rex
What's all this shaking-?!
Klaus
It is Logos...
Malos, trying to destroy this world and everything in it.
Malos, trying to destroy this world and everything in it.
Rex
What?!
Klaus
Remember, at heart he is but an information processing unit,
neither good nor evil.
He is driven by a certain impulse...
The despair that the man named Amalthus felt.
neither good nor evil.
He is driven by a certain impulse...
The despair that the man named Amalthus felt.
Rex
I see...
So it was right. What I felt back then, I mean.
So it was right. What I felt back then, I mean.
Pyra
Rex...
Klaus
Rex... What is it you desire?
Rex
What else?
To stop Malos.
To stop Malos.
Klaus
And if you succeed?
Rex
I'll punch him in his stupid face. And then...
Probably get a drink with him or something.
That's the sixth rule of the Salvager's Code.
First have a punch-out, then drink to forget. Once you've forgotten, the friendship's all set!
I'm not old enough to drink yet though...
Probably get a drink with him or something.

I'm not old enough to drink yet though...
Klaus
(bemused)
(bemused)
I see...
Klaus
Pneuma...
No, I should call you Pyra and Mythra.
No, I should call you Pyra and Mythra.
Pyra
What is it?
Klaus
I want to apologize, for having burdened you with all this.
Pyra
Don't worry. We're actually grateful.
Thanks to you, Father, we got to meet Rex and everyone else.
Those are cherished memories.
Thanks to you, Father, we got to meet Rex and everyone else.
Those are cherished memories.
Klaus smiles at this. He lifts up his hand. Pyra is shifted to being Pneuma.
Pneuma
Father...
Klaus
I have transferred all of Elysium's data and authorizations to you.
Make me proud.
Make me proud.
Pneuma
We will.
Klaus
Rex.
Rex
Yes?
Klaus
I will disappear soon.
When I do, the Conduit will likely disappear from this world.
You will not be able to use your power forever.
When I do, the Conduit will likely disappear from this world.
You will not be able to use your power forever.
Rex
I understand. We'll make do somehow.
Klaus
I'm counting on you...
Rex nods. Pneuma and Klaus nod at each other. The party then starts to leave, towards the second door that had not yet been seen. Rex pauses for a moment.
Rex
Klaus!
Klaus hms.
Rex
Have you changed your mind about this world?
Klaus
Right now...
I think...I am glad I met you all.
I think...I am glad I met you all.
Rex
Got it...
Then our answers match!
Thank you for giving us all life.
Then our answers match!
Thank you for giving us all life.
The group continues leaving.
Klaus
Perhaps...
Perhaps I will be able to face you again...
Galea...
Perhaps I will be able to face you again...
Galea...
The party is now outside the Architect's Room.
Rex
Pyra, where's Malos?Mythra, where's Malos?[Pneuma], where's Malos?
Pneuma
If he is here, I know where he must have gone...
Rex
Where is it? Tell us!
Pneuma
The greatest of all Artifices.
The Artifice that exists solely to destroy the world...
Aion...
The Artifice that exists solely to destroy the world...
Aion...
Rex
Aion...? So that's what Malos meant!
Elsewhere, Malos stands in front of a darkened Aion.
Rex
Then that's where we'll go.
Fire from the Sky[edit]
The party goes down an elevator to reach the Storage Area Entrance. They look out the window to see the Sirens shooting down. Chaos occurs on Mor Ardain, Tantal, and Uraya as they get blasted by the light. (But this doesn't actually change anything about gameplay upon skip traveling there.)
Brighid
Are all of those Sirens...?!
Mòrag
He's really trying to destroy all of Alrest...
Different Artifices, looking somewhat like Malos-colored Sirens, start to fly downn.
Rex
Let's hurry, guys!
The Final Doorway[edit]
At the Aion Hangar Entrance is a Wall Control Panel.
If you open this door, there will be no turning back. Falling in battle will mean restarting from the title screen.
Your game will be saved before the final battle begins.
Your game will be saved before the final battle begins.
Begin the final battle?
Let's do this!
Not yet...
Words Can Be a Curse[edit]
The party enters the Aion Hangar. Malos stands in front of Aion, waiting for them.
Rex
Malos!
Malos
Just in time for the final act, boy! I've saved you the best seats in the house.
Rex growls.
Malos
Hah, I sounded just like Akhos for a moment there.
Nia
Akhos is dead, you bastard.
So is Patroka, and Jin...
So is Patroka, and Jin...
Malos
Figured as much.
Nia
...Is that all?
Malos
What, you want me to weep and deliver a eulogy? What good would that do?
They all desired oblivion, and now they've achieved it.
Least I can do is send them off with a smile.
They all desired oblivion, and now they've achieved it.
Least I can do is send them off with a smile.
Rex
Malos... Is this really what you want?
Malos
Huh?
Rex
Is this what YOU want, Malos?!
Malos
I don't understand the question.
Rex
You must understand by now?
That none of this is your own will!
That none of this is your own will!
Malos
Heh.
Rex
You have to see all of this came from Amalthus!
Malos
Even if that's true, so what?
And don't give me some weak-ass crap about how I should repent or whatever.
And don't give me some weak-ass crap about how I should repent or whatever.
Rex
Why don't you want to hear the truth?
Malos
(quiet, then suddenly yelling)
(quiet, then suddenly yelling)
Here's the thing.
I don't give a rat's ass what you think, brat!
I don't give a rat's ass what you think, brat!
Everyone recoils.
Malos
So Blades become Titans? And Titans give life to humans...?
Honestly, who even gives a damn?
They can become whatever they want.
But that man... He'd lost everything.
Honestly, who even gives a damn?
They can become whatever they want.
But that man... He'd lost everything.
A short part of the flashback of Malos finding Jin in the rain plays.
Malos
(more and more passionately)
(more and more passionately)
He no longer wanted anything.
He didn't even want to live any more.
And despite that...
His life was the one thing he hadn't lost.
Because he couldn't.
He didn't even want to live any more.
And despite that...
His life was the one thing he hadn't lost.
Because he couldn't.
A part of the flashback of Lora's death plays.
Lora
Jin...
the thought of you forgetting me...
It's like one heart is being ripped in two.
the thought of you forgetting me...
It's like one heart is being ripped in two.
Malos
Words can be a curse.
That curse was what kept him tied down here.
A wretched tale, isn't it?
This whole world is a wretched place!
That curse was what kept him tied down here.
A wretched tale, isn't it?
This whole world is a wretched place!
Gramps
Do not forget that you too are a part of that world.
If it were not for you, for Amalthus...
Both Jin and Lora's lives may have taken quite different paths.
If it were not for you, for Amalthus...
Both Jin and Lora's lives may have taken quite different paths.
Malos
(back and forth between calm and yelling)
(back and forth between calm and yelling)
Exactly! That's exactly it!
You've gotten smarter with age, huh?
I'm a wretched being too! A hideous monster, far beyond saving!
...So let's end this now.
You've gotten smarter with age, huh?
I'm a wretched being too! A hideous monster, far beyond saving!
...So let's end this now.
His Core Crystal glows.
Pneuma
Don't you feel anything?
Father's sadness? The world he longed for?!
Father's sadness? The world he longed for?!
Malos
How could I?
That isn't...
my role in this world.
That isn't...
my role in this world.
Mòrag
This man... Does he mean to...?!
Aion awakes, testing out its various limbs and joints. Malos lifts off the ground and floats towards it.
Malos
(yelling harder and harder)
(yelling harder and harder)
Come at me, kid! Come, my partner!
Give me all you've got...
You better show me all of it!
The extent of your will!
Show me why you're here in this world!
Give me all you've got...
You better show me all of it!
The extent of your will!
Show me why you're here in this world!
He passes into Aion's Core Crystal. It lifts its fists to readiness.
To Find a Way Forward[edit]
Everyone in the party is helping beat up Aion. It fires a pair of lasers from its two tails. The Blades raise their barriers, but the attack misses all but Zeke. He gets pushed back with an "Urghh!".
Nia
You're not burning anyone today!
She heals Zeke and Pandoria, who naturally pose in response.
Dromarch
My lady!
Nia was not paying attention to the tails getting ready to poke her. He jumps in the way to shield her and gets sent a fair distance.
Nia
Dromarch!
Dromarch
Don't trouble yourself, it's nothing!
Tora shoots from his shield to keep the tails at bay. A portal then opens above, and Siren's beam appears from it, flowing into Rex's sword.
Rex
Haaahhh!
Rex shoots the collected energy at Aion.
Rex
Can you still not see?!
He makes another direct hit. It's all very spectacular-looking, but there's no visible damage. Malos is being knocked around inside the cockpit a bit, and goes to whack Rex with the mech's arms.
Rex
Stop the Artifice!
Malos!
Malos!
He lands another shot.
Malos
See what, brat?!
The world's never gonna change if that's all you got!
The world's never gonna change if that's all you got!
Things are happening in the world below. Malos-colored Artifices are landing in Alba Cavanich as it burns, with Niall directing people to evacuate. The same is happening in Tantal and Uraya, with Eulogimenos and Raqura trying to get their people out.
Rex
It will change!
I will change it!
I will change it!
He hops over an approaching hand and slashes at it.
Rex
That's the reason we've come all this way!
The hand comes back towards him and he ducks it, fighting off the other one.
Malos
Why don't you just let it go?!
Who do you think you're doing this for?!
Who do you think you're doing this for?!
The twin lasers do nothing against Pneuma's barrier.
Rex
I'm doing it...for myself.
If it helps put smiles on people's faces...
Helps them live their lives together...
Then that's my role in this world!
If it helps put smiles on people's faces...
Helps them live their lives together...
Then that's my role in this world!
He continues to use his sword as a gun.
Rex
Jin told me to take care of you in his place, you know.
Jin never wanted to die...
He just wanted to connect with you!
He did it because you showed him a path!
Jin never wanted to die...
He just wanted to connect with you!
He did it because you showed him a path!
Malos
And how many people died because of it?!
You'd forgive him, just like that?!
You'd forgive him, just like that?!
Rex
Forgiving isn't that easy.
But that's just the world we live in!
We need to find a way forward, within that world!
But that's just the world we live in!
We need to find a way forward, within that world!
Malos growls.
Rex
Even you...
used to think like that once!
used to think like that once!
He keeps blasting away.
The Architect remains idle. A voice is heard from the void on his left side.
The Architect remains idle. A voice is heard from the void on his left side.
???
Today, we use our power to fell a god, and then seize our destiny![4]
Klaus
Hurry...
The time...is nigh...
The time...is nigh...
The Last Gift[edit]
The beating up of Aion continues.
Rex
Here I go!
Pneuma
Yeah!
Rex and Pneuma both hold up the sword. This time we see Siren firing its laser into the portal, which is then transfered to the sword as the two jump. The sword further unfolds to reveal the outlines of both itself and the two swords the compose it, and glows along this new three-pointed edge.
Rex
Pneuma
Haaaaahhhhh!
Rex
Let's get this done!
So we can move on!
So we can move on!
Pneuma
For the future!
Instead of shooting the energy, they wield it like a giant sword and slash down at Aion. It tries to block it with its hands, but it cuts through and dumps a large amount of energy directly into the core. There's an explosion, and AIon slumps down. Rex and Pneuma finally land. Malos is comically ejected and flops onto the floor, groaning.
A white disc appears above the Conduit. It starts to dematerialize. The walls behind the Architect open to show that it's where the Conduit has been. As his body starts to sparkle a bit, he lifts his hand up and makes a circular motion. Blue images of several Titans and the World Tree appear. In the night outside, the World Tree glows bright.

Klaus
This is the last gift I can offer you...
The rest is up to you... My children...
The rest is up to you... My children...
His body starts to glow white just like Jin and Amalthus did.
Across Alrest, Malos's Artifices deactivate. The cities still burn, but the people and rulers no longer panic, and stand to look as the machines just stop moving.
Malos grunts as he flips over onto his back. His Core Crystal is flickering and has a crack running across it. It looked worse before with the whole top missing, honestly.

Malos
It's been fun, kid...
Rex
Malos...
Malos
If only I'd met you sooner...
Just think of the worlds I might've seen...
But even so...
Just think of the worlds I might've seen...
But even so...
Rex
If...
If I had been your Driver...
All of this...
If I had been your Driver...
All of this...
Malos
Hah... Kids say the damnedest things...
Malos's body is starting to fragment.
Malos
There was only one Driver for me.
All in all...
It wasn't...so bad...
All in all...
It wasn't...so bad...
He vanishes completely, dissolving into a cloud of purple sparks.
Pneuma
Malos...
Mòrag
Looks like he's finally found it.
Brighid
Lady Mòrag...?
Mòrag
A meaning to his life...
Brighid
Indeed...
Mòrag
Frankly, I'm a little jealous.
After all, most people...
go their whole lives without finding theirs...
I wonder if I'll find mine...
After all, most people...
go their whole lives without finding theirs...
I wonder if I'll find mine...
Zeke
You've got one already, haven't you?
And if what you've got isn't enough for you, well...
you can always leave things to the next generation.
And if what you've got isn't enough for you, well...
you can always leave things to the next generation.
Mòrag
Hmph... You've got a point.
Surprisingly enough.
Surprisingly enough.
Everyone looks up with sadness and relief.
The room where the Conduit once was dims. An alarm starts to sound. Outside, where all the Artifices are frozen in place, discs stop spinning and things start shaking.

♫
The space station has fragmented. The part above the orbital ring has broken off, and many chunks of material spray out from various points on the main body. Inside, everyone screams as the shaking knocks them down.
Rex
What's going on...?
Pneuma opens a remote console and pushes a few buttons on the holographic interface. A diagram of the planet and space station appears.
Pneuma
Th-that's!
Nia
What?! What's happened?
Pneuma lifts up the diagram for better visibility.
Pneuma
At this rate... All of Elysium will collapse!
Nia
What?!
With a wider view, the diagram shows a second ring and station at much greater distance. But no one's looking at that.
Pneuma
Since the Conduit disappeared,
the power holding Elysium together was cut off!
the power holding Elysium together was cut off!
Nia
What's gonna happen when it crumbles?! Not-?!
Pneuma
Everything above this point will either orbit the planet or be flung into space by centrifugal force.[5]
The diagram shows a prediction of the results, with the ring and station both collapsing.
Pneuma
However...
Everything below this point - the World Tree itself - will fall apart on top of Alrest!
Everything below this point - the World Tree itself - will fall apart on top of Alrest!
Mòrag
N-no, that can't...
The impact would...destroy...
The impact would...destroy...
Rex
There...there has to be a way to stop it!
Pyra, please!Mythra, please![Pneuma], please!
Pyra, please!Mythra, please![Pneuma], please!
She looks down with an exhale, worried.
Rex
Pyra!Mythra![Pneuma]!
She forms an idea. She doesn't appear excited about it.
Pneuma
There is one way.
Just one way to prevent it.
Five stories down from here,
there's a control room for the correction boosters.
If we can fire the booster jets...
and accelerate the whole World Tree beyond escape velocity...

Zeke
Look, I haven't got a clue about boosters or velocities, but...
I'm gathering that we gotta get there, and fast.
I'm gathering that we gotta get there, and fast.
She nods slowly and sadly.
Rex
OK. Five floors down! Let's hurry!
He leads the group off. Pneuma however stays still.
Pneuma
Azurda! Poppi!
Gramps goes "Hmm?" as the two stop for her. She tells the two of them something.
Gramps
What did you say?!
Poppi α
P-Poppi could not possibly...!
Pneuma
Please!
You're the only ones I can ask...
You're the only ones I can ask...
Poppi α
But-!
Pneuma
Poppi...
You promised...didn't you?
You promised...didn't you?
Poppi whimpers as she remembers the high-five.
Poppi α
That below belt...
Pneuma
Please.
Poppi sniffles but eventually gets a nod out. Pneuma nods and then pokes Gramps in the Core Crystal. There's the sound of one heartbeat as it glows brightly.
Gramps
You're a real piece of work...
The party is staggering down staircases as the space station shakes and explodes. Reaching the stated floor, they cross a bridge across a wide chasm, stumbling more with further explosions. They reach the doors at the other end.
Rex
What is this...?
There's a row of what look to be escape pods.
♫
Mòrag
Ships? Is this a...port?
The group is confused for a moment. Rex then makes a noise like he forgot something important and pushes through everyone else in a panic to go back to the bridge. Pneuma stands on the opposite side with a sad smile.
Rex
Pyra, what are you doing there?!Mythra, what are you doing there?![Pneuma], what are you doing there?!
Where's the control room...?!
Pyra?!Mythra?![Pneuma]?!
Where's the control room...?!
Pyra?!Mythra?![Pneuma]?!
She doesn't respond. Rex starts to figure it out.
Rex
You can't mean-!
Pneuma
I'm sorry...
She waves her hand. The bridge is destroyed and collapses into the darkness.
Pneuma
This was the first lie I ever told you.
Rex
Pyra...Mythra...[Pneuma]...
Pneuma
The only way to stop the World Tree's collapse...
is to use the last of Aion's power...
and annihilate the World Tree. I'm sorry, it is the only way.
You all need to use one of those escape vessels...
and get as far away as possible.

Rex
Wha...?! The last of Aion's...
Pyra, what're you doing?!Mythra, what're you doing?![Pneuma], what're you doing?!
It'll... It'll be fine, right?
You'll deal with the World Tree, then come back, right?!

She says nothing. Just a sniffle.
Rex
Wait! Just wait! I'll come with you!
He fires his anchor into the air. Somehow now of all times it doesn't reach.
Rex
Dammit! There's not enough wire!
He pulls it back, then gets another idea.
Rex
I got it!
Poppi!
Poppi!
He takes a few steps towards her, but instead of being happy to help, she continues to stand there looking depressed.
♫
Rex
Poppi?!
Poppi α
It not OK...
Rex makes a "?" noise.
Poppi α
Poppi cannot...
Rex
Whaddya mean you can't?!
Poppi α
(try to not cry)
(try to not cry)
Poppi made promise...
Pyra say that Rex for sure ask Poppi.Mythra say that Rex for sure ask Poppi.[Pneuma] say that Rex for sure ask Poppi.
Say not help Rex, no matter what...

Rex
(offended)
(offended)
What kind of promise is that...?
Please! I'm begging you!
Please! I'm begging you!
He grabs her by the shoulders.
Rex
All you gotta do is take me over there!
The rest of you can just...
The rest of you can just...
Gramps
Rex...
Rex
C'mon!
Please...she's right there...
Please...she's right there...
He helpfully points in her direction. Poppi whimpers.
Gramps
Reeex!
Rex
G... Gramps...
Gramps
Sometimes a man must know when to let go.
Rex
Why?! Whyyy?!
He falls to his knees.
Gramps
Do it for her, Rex...
Do as she asks...
Do as she asks...
Rex
Gramps...
Zeke
Chum...
How long are you planning on being a baby...?
How long are you planning on being a baby...?
Tora carefully pokes Poppi. She turns and grabs him with a hug.
Zeke
Pandoria is visibly surprised at the wisdom. Mòrag goes over to Rex and kneels down to put a hand on his shoulder.
Mòrag
Rex...
I am so thankful that I've met all of you.
I am so thankful that I've met all of you.
Rex keeps sobbing. Mòrag stands up and pays her respects to Pneuma. Brighid does the same.
Tora
Rex-Rex...
Rex looks up to see that Nia is about as equally sad as he is. He slowly gets up to face Pneuma again.
Rex
Pyra...Mythra...[Pneuma]...
The space station remembers it's supposed to be exploding. The gap fills with a bit of smoke from the bangs.
Pneuma
Rex!
Pneuma taps her Core Crystal. Both hers and Rex's glow. After a moment, the entire thing, back in a single piece, floats out of his chest. The Master Driver suit vanishes, leaving Rex with his regular suit. The Core Crystal falls to the ground and goes dark. Rex picks it up.
Rex
The Core Crystal...
He looks back at her with what might be hope.
Pneuma
You'll be fine...
without me now.
without me now.
Rex
Pyra...Mythra...[Pneuma]...
There's an explosion above. Debris rains down through the gap.
Rex
Pyraaaa!!!Mythraaaa!!![Pneumaaaa]!!!
The debris falls past her, and once the view is clear again, she's gone. The orbital ring and space elevator are broken. Rex clutches the inactive Core Crystal and nods solemnly at the others. The Artifices begin to fall into the sky. Pneuma has returned to Aion.
Pneuma
Hello there.
I hope you'll help me.
I hope you'll help me.
She enters the cockpit, her eyes shining with tears that do not escape. Aion straightens up as she activates the Reactor Overload Program Execution Sequence and sets the timer for five minutes. On a screen to the side she watches the party re-enter the escape pod hangar. Something nearby blows up and they all draw their weapons; we're supposed to believe Rex has been carrying around his original broadsword this whole time, because apparently he has it now. Pneuma starts to monologue over the mostly-unheard events.
Pneuma
Rex...
I'm so glad to have met you.
Our time together was short... A fraction of my long, long years.
I'm so glad to have met you.
Our time together was short... A fraction of my long, long years.
Nia beats on the door of one of the escape pods, unable to get it to open. Tora has a similar problem. Rex almost gets clobbered by a falling panel, but Mòrag and Zeke blast it away.
Pneuma
But it's been warmer and brighter... than any time I can remember before.
Poppi trips and falls. Rex helps her get up.
Pneuma
You shone a light on my melancholy path. You showed me the way.
Tora taps at a pod's keypad and the door opens. Everyone piles in. Rex and Tora run up to the front. Rex just starts pressing buttons randomly. Pneuma taps a button on her side to active the escape pod. The hatch ahead opens, the engine fires, and the pod streaks away as the station crumbles.
Pneuma
Thank you for that, Rex.
Thank you for that gift of light.
Thank you for that gift of light.
She closes her eyes. Nothing other than her is visible.
Malos's voice
So tell me... How was it, being alive...?
Pneuma
Do you really wanna know? Well...
She says something that goes unheard. The countdown hits zero. Aion, and the station around it, start to emit a dangerous-looking aura. Aboard the escape pod, Rex looks back.
Rex
Pyraaaa!Mythraaa![Pneumaaaa]!
The station detonates. What's left of the elevator glows red-hot.
The escape pod continues downards, rattling hard from speed and age. It travels through a cloud of debris and gets battered, shortly completely coming apart. Everyone screams as they quickly lose the ship and start free-falling.
Gramps
Reeeex!
Gramps suddenly flashes blue. In an instant, he's transformed back into his aged Titan form, exactly how he looked at the start of the game. Rex catches the grass on his back.
Rex
(confused)
(confused)
Gramps?!
Over the next several seconds, the party all helps each other get caught and situated on Gramps's back.
Gramps
You know, I think this form does suit me best.
Rex
(relieved)
(relieved)
Gramps!
Gramps
We're heading down! Everybody grab onto something!
Gramps takes them down through the clouds, only to find much fewer clouds than expected. Actual ground is visible.
Tora
Cloud Sea is...
Rex
The Titans are...gone...
Bit of a hasty statement there, but it is nerve-wracking that the lighting is suddenly green and they can just fly down to Morytha.
Nia
I can't believe it...
Is everyone...dead?
Is everyone...dead?
Pandoria
We were too late...
Poppi α
It the Land of Morytha...
Nothing seems different about the surface, other than the sky is more clear.
Zeke
So there's nothing left of the world...but ruins?
Gramps
We're crossing that rift!
It's unclear what he means by "rift", since the camera is not looking where Gramps is flying. But there's a white flash, and the landscape has suddenly changed, to everyone's great surprise.
♫
They're now flying over a real ocean. The sky is the yellow of a sunrise. Faint landmasses sit in the distance. Nia spots something to the right.
Nia
Look!
The Titan of Uraya is falling. It hits the water with the biggest bellyflop of all time while Tantal does similar on its other side. Both Titans swim across the surface of the ocean and ground themselves into the nearest landmass. On Gramps's left side, another unidentified Titan does the same.
Dromarch
The Titans...
Brighid
They're joining with the land...
Also to the left, Mor Ardain arrives, followed by Gormott.
Mòrag
It's true...
I think... I see what Klaus meant by "restoring the world".
I think... I see what Klaus meant by "restoring the world".
Gormott settles down in the water, laying its head on the land.
Rex
Gramps...
So Elysium was...
here all along...
So Elysium was...
here all along...
Gramps
You know, Rex... I think you're right.
Debris from the space station, now just a meteor shower, fills the sky. Rex looks at the dark Core Crystal in his hand.
Rex
We're...
finally here...
finally here...
The staff credits begin to roll.
As the credits continue, a selection of scenes play to the side, mostly focused on Rex, Pyra, Mythra, and Pneuma. The credits end with skipping back to Pyra blowing embers at the end of chapter 2, transitioning back to the party atop Gramps, the scene silent as the music plays. The party enjoys a moment of respite, looking up at the meteor shower. Turters appearance. One of the embers drifts down and touches Pneuma's Core Crystal. Rex looks at it as it flickers to life, followed by glowing brightly and then shining an enormous beam into the sky. When it's done and Rex looks up, he sees that both Pyra and Mythra are standing there, each will a full crystal on their chest. Everyone is shocked, followed by happiness and relief. Poppi is the first to act, leaping into a hug with them both. Rex just stands there for a moment before Nia shoves him in the back, encouraging him to go forth. He looks at the others, who all agree, and back to the Aegises. He looks at MythraPyraone first, but then over to PyraMythrathe one whose name he preferred. She says something unheard.[7] Satisfied, Rex steps towards them.
Final Chapter:
And thus, boy met girl.
And thus, boy met girl.
Notes[edit]
- ↑ Pronounced as "one twenty seven" and "two fourteen".
- ↑ This is a noted curious translation. The original Japanese line is しかし ウーシアは時空転移現象と共に消えていた, which is closer to Ontos vanishing alongside the phenomenon, rather than being the cause of it.
- ↑ The texture used on the ID badge is taken directly from Galea's model, leading to a widespread fan theory that this Guldo is related in some way. It was later stated in an artbook interview that there is no relation, and it is simply a case of asset reuse.
- ↑ This line is coming from Shulk in Xenoblade Chronicles. For those who have finished that game, this reveals both who Klaus's other half is and where he has vanished to.
- ↑ Skye Bennet betrays herself as a Brit with this one. The American pronunciation of "centrifugal" puts the stress on the "tri", but she puts it on the "fu".
- ↑ Zeke clearly says "got to" instead of "gotta".
- ↑ There is much debate over the meaning of this. There is a pair of hidden captions for the scene. In Japanese, the words are ただいま ("I'm home") and はじめまして ("Nice to meet you"), which are translated to English as "Hello, Rex." and "Hello, I'm Pyra/Mythra." respectively. The first caption implies that Pyra and Mythra kept their memories, while the second implies they lost them like any other reawakened Blade. While this would suggest either ending is possible, the lip movements are instead based on the game's region: Eastern releases got the first phrase, while Western releases got the second (they even have
_usin the file name). Clearly something went awry with the execution, and the truth is a mystery.
