Salvager Rank
Salvager Ranks are a mechanic in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Five ranks can be delivered by Mochichi on an isolated balcony inside Goldmouth Res. Dist. in Argentum. Salvager Ranks do not carry over into New Game Plus.
Mechanics[edit]
Upon talking to Mochichi for the first time (starting in Chapter 2), the party may ask him about Salvager Ranks, prompting Mochichi to ask them if they want his appraisal, for a small fee. There are five Salvager Ranks, starting from rank E and ending with rank A, with the fee increasing the higher Rex goes up in rank.

In order for Rex to rank up, he must salvage and open salvaged treasure troves. Doing so will award hidden points, with rarer treasure troves awarding more of them. If the player has gotten, or at least believes they have, enough points to qualify for a rank up, they can go back to Mochichi to be judged. The fee must be paid each time, even if the appraisal doesn't lead to an increase in rank. If Mochichi judges Rex to be worthy, he will praise the Salvager and award him a Salvager Rank certificate for his new rank along with an item reward, including cylinders of varying rarities, accessories and Aux Cores.

Dialogue[edit]
Chapter 1[edit]
This dialogue only happens in Chapter 1. Under normal circumstances an invisible wall prevents Rex from reaching Mochichi, but this can be bypassed via e.g. using Zombie Hover.

First meeting[edit]
This dialogue happens the first time the party talk to Mochichi and will happen as long as "Ask about Salvager Ranks" was not picked as the answer.
Friends knowing about skill of Mochichi? Very sneaky indeed!
Since day Mochichi was born, Mochichi see salvagers come and go. Developed great skill of judging salvager ability!
Also, fair and honest is motto of Mochichi. So Mochichi offer service of ranking salvagers.
All right, Mochichi rank friends.
But Mochichi require small cash fee for ranking service!
Oh, but Mochichi do good service! When friends gain rank, give special reward for free as present!

Next meeting[edit]
Once the party has inquired about Salvager Ranks for the first time, the dialogue before Mochichi asks for his fee will be significantly shortened.
Mochichi can not wait to see how much Rex improve salvaging skills!

Refusing to pay[edit]
The party may refuse to pay Mochichi's fee.
Mochichi not give rankings for favors! Only give rankings for fee! Friends understanding this?
