SMALL TWO OF PIECES ~Broken Shards~ (called Small Two of Pieces -Screeching Shards- on the Revival disc, sometimes unofficially referred to as Small Two Of Pieces ~Restored Pieces~) is Disc 1, Track 19 on the Xenogears Original Soundtrack and track 45 on the Xenogears Original Soundtrack Revival Disc -the first and the last-. It was also included as track 12 on the album Colours of Light (a compilation of Mitsuda's vocal works).
Faraway Promise (and, by extension, A Distant Promise - Piano Version -, Wind from the Valley - A Distant Promise, and A Distant Promise (Music Box Version)) are versions of this track, with Faraway Promise being played on a music box.
This track is the ending theme of Xenogears, playing at the end of the final cutscene as well as in the staff credits. The song is also the audio to a music video stored in the Japanese version of Xenogears' second disc; however, this file cannot ordinarily be accessed without extraction tools or similar methods.

最初はインストゥルメンタルでアレンジしようと思っていたの ですが、どうしてもJoanne Hoggの歌声とDavy Spillane のロー・ホイッスルは入れたくて、 10年以上前に録音した データをわざわざテープから起こし使用することにしました。 Joanneの歌声はオーケストラとの相性も良く、新たな感動 を味わって貰えるのではないかと思います。 エンジニア、 Mattのミックスで Joanneの歌声が更に煌びやかに生まれ 変わりました。 オリジナルと聞き比べてみるのも面白いかもし れませんね。

Small Two of Pieces (Piano Version) is a remix for solo piano of SMALL TWO OF PIECES ~Broken Shards~ performed at the Xenogears 20th Anniversary Concert -The Beginning and the End-, and is the 9th track on the associated Blu-Ray disc.
Despite the name, the track is arguably much closer to Faraway Promise than SMALL TWO OF PIECES ~Broken Shards~, sharing its structure and harmonisation with the former piece.
