Pneuma, called Pyra/Mythra's ascended state in-game, is a special Blade of Rex in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. She is an alternate form of Pyra and Mythra who can be activated by holding R and pressing X when the Party Gauge is full and Pyra or Mythra are at maximum Affinity. In most cases, she can only be activated for 60 seconds (although this does not expire during Chain Attacks). After this period is over, she reverts back to either Pyra or Mythra, depending upon who was active when Pneuma was activated. Rex cannot switch to any other Blade while Pneuma is active, including in Chain Attacks.
Pneuma is first available in the second phase of the fight against Jin and Malos at the Gotrock Oracle Ruins, the only fight in which she does not have a time limit. When activated, her Special gauge fills to level III. Her level IV Special can only be used in New Game+.

A Dream of the Future[edit]

Pneuma will change her Specials to an element that matches a Blade Combo route. When controlling Rex, the player can press up and down on the D-Pad to select a valid element.
The Aegis[edit]

All party members have a 100% critical hit rate, their hit chances are increased, all enemy Break resistances are reduced by 50%, and the enemy hit chances are decreased. Also, item drop rates are doubled.
The Chosen One[edit]

This skill has many effects:
- All enemies target Rex, regardless of aggro. All existing aggro is locked until Pneuma goes away.
- If Rex receives damage which would reduce him to 0 HP, he is instead reduced to 1 HP and has invincibility for 5 seconds. This only works once per activation of Pneuma.
- Rex has complete immunity to reactions and debuffs.
- Rex's auto-attacks and Driver Arts automatically deal damage of the element corresponding to the enemy's elemental weakness.
- Damage dealt by Rex/Pneuma ignores the damage reduction from element orbs.
- If Pneuma blocks an attack, the damage is reflected back upon the attacker.
- When Rex takes damage, the attacking enemy receives spike damage.
- Pneuma strikes all element orbs during a Chain Attack, for one hit of damage each.
