Pierre Ruryk (ピエール・リューリック) is a supporting character in the Xenosaga series, introduced as an additional character in Xenosaga I & II. He is one of the representative members of the Salvator Faction in the Galaxy Federation Parliament.

Appearance and Personality

Pierre Ruryk is a blonde, middle-aged man. His attire being made up of a lavender collared shirt, a dark purple overcoat, black pants, black boots, and white gloves, he is consistently dressed up relatively formal.

Despite carrying himself with confidence, he is quite cowardly. He is criticized for lacking in political skills, only making up for it by swaying voters with his handsome physical appearance. As a member of the Salvator Faction, his allegiances lie purely with Dmitri Yuriev and other designer children. As such, his interests align with the Kukai Foundation and Gaignun Kukai until Dmitri's eventual reawakening.

Story Arc

Pierre Ruryk's role is as a political supporter of the Kukai Foundation in the early chapters of Xenosaga I & II, and later as a pawn for Dmitri Yuriev.

Xenosaga I & II

Pierre Ruryk is first introduced in the Episode I segment as a member of the Federation Parliament, defending the best interests of the Kukai Foundation after doctored footage showing the Durandal attacking the Woglinde had put Second Miltia under suspicion of treason. Ruryk is seen debating Sergius XVII on the matter, and is later shown intimidating the Federation forces with the Salvator Faction's own private militia. After the matter is settled, Gaignun contacts Ruryk, ensuring that the Salvator forces are pulled back.

Ruryk is reintroduced in the Episode II segment soon after Dmitri Yuriev's reawakening. Dmitri and Citrine are shown pressuring him to lead a fleet of Federation vessels to Old Miltia, much to his dismay. After accepting the task, Ruryk leaves and Citrine calls him a coward. When Ruryk and his fleet approach Old Miltia accompanied by Jin Uzuki, they are met with push-back from Immigrant Fleet forces. In an attempt to counter their Zohar-powered weaponry, Ruryk orders the fleet to launch U.R.T.V. Pods. When the Ormus Stronghold suddenly appears, Ruryk panics and resorts to artillery fire. He fails to pull back his fleet in time for the oncoming attack, and it ends up getting destroyed with him at its center.

• Pierre Ruryk first entered politics upon being elected to the Vartas star-system district in T.C. 4748.

Trivia

• In an interview with Tetsuya Takahashi and Yuichiro Takeda, Takahashi mentions that Ruryk was originally planned to be a nameless character associated with the Salvator Faction, noting that "his personal importance is quite insignificant". Takeda agrees, but also claims that Ruryk plays an important role in tying the Salvator Faction into the story more cohesively.
