This article is about the ship run by the group Torna in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. For the indigen species in Xenoblade Chronicles X, see Monoceros (XCX).
The Monoceros, moored at Goldmouth Return Port

The Monoceros is one of Torna's ships in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Torna ~ The Golden Country. It is used by the organization to quickly move around Alrest. Unlike most ships of its size, it does not use a Titan as its core and is entirely mechanical.

Story[edit]

Xenoblade Chronicles 2[edit]

The Monoceros is first seen during Chapter 1, moored at Goldmouth Return Port. Later, after embarking on the C.S.E.V. Maelstrom, Rex sees the Monoceros tailing the ship during his watch duty, recognizing it as the ship he saw in Goldmouth.

After Jin kills Rex, Malos asks Nia to call the Monoceros, which arrives during Rex and Pyra's clash with the former, firing at them with turrets, sending Nia flying. The turrets almost shoot Rex too but are stopped by Gramps's arrival, firing fireballs at the Monoceros and stopping it. During the party's flight from the battle aboard Gramps, the Monoceros's turrets successfully hit him, making him crash in Gormott at a later time.

The Monoceros is later seen at the beginning of Chapter 3, docking into what is most likely the Marsanes, bringing Malos and Jin back, who are greeted by Akhos. After a short discussion on their next moves, and pinpointing the party's location, Malos and Akhos embark on the Monoceros to tail the party.

At the end of Chapter 4, after Mikhail and Patroka are defeated at Bulge Harbor, with the latter's powers restricted by Fan la Norne's arrival, the Monoceros emerges from the Cloud Sea. Mikhail, while carrying Patroka, jumps on the ship, which proceeds to fire with its turrets at a pursuing Mòrag. While the shots end up missing her, they successfully manage to stop her. The ship ends up sailing out of the harbor unencumbered as a result.

During Chapter 8, Torna boards the ship and dives under the Cloud Sea, arriving in the Land of Morytha, with great difficulty, to rescue Jin. The crew searches the ruins and ultimately find Jin, now traveling with the party. Jin orders them not to attack the party, an order promptly ignored by Patroka who almost fires the turrets at the party, stopped by Jin releasing a shockwave. Afterward, Jin embarks on the Monoceros as the organization begins its climb of the World Tree.

Off-screen, the Monoceros most likely docked back into the Marsanes as it is never seen again during the rest of the story.

Torna ~ The Golden Country[edit]

The Monoceros is briefly seen during Torna ~ The Golden Country's ending, as Jin returns to the ship after finding the remains of his and Ornelia's old home, setting fire to both the ruin and a photo of the party, and having a small conversation with Azurda.

Lore[edit]

  • The ship is hinted to have been made for the Tornan army, with the ship's glass being made by Tarres, Charlet's teacher.[1]
  • It is hinted to have been built by the Aureus Palace soldiers and local Tornan engineers, completed right before the events of Torna ~ The Golden Country.[2]
  • Gideon was asked to work on it twice, turning the offer both times to work on his inventions.
  • During the events of Chapter 3, the ship was most likely docked around Fonsa Myma as Abdel claims to have seen it.

Trivia[edit]

  • In the English version, this ship and the Miran species Monoceros from Xenoblade Chronicles X have the same name. However, the Japanese name for the species, ウニコル, is different.
