Appearances Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Miyabi (ミヤビ), also known as Glorysong Miyabi is a character in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. She is Mio's off-seeing partner and friend.

Appearance and personality[edit]

Miyabi is a young woman with neck-length brown hair styled into a bob cut with a clover-shaped ribbon on the left side of her hair, green eyes, and a blue gem on her chest. Miyabi's choice of clothes is the usual Agnian off-seeing outfit with green trims, and she wears the same legging and boots as Mio. During her time in Colony Theta, Miyabi wore the Agnian military uniform. Her term mark is located on the left side of her neck. Her choice of weapons are a pair of fans called the Silken Ivy.

Miyabi is a usually shy, friendly girl who hates fighting and taking lives of others. Miyabi is somewhat clumsy (a fact that she's glad of), as illustrated by her falling off a balancing log during a training course, nearly drowning when swimming, choking on sand while traversing the Fornis Region, and being cautious of tripping in sand. Miyabi also has a fear of heights.

Miyabi embraces her purpose as an off-seer and was the one to convince Mio of the role's importance.

Story arc[edit]

Main story[edit]

Miyabi is briefly glimpsed in a memory as Noah and Mio Interlink for the first time to fight off D. She is also seen in a flashback explaining the roles of the off-seer to Mio after she and Noah send off Guernica.

Miyabi is mentioned by Mio while foraging for food in Maktha Wildwood after it was stolen by several Tirkins. She reveals to Eunie that Miyabi was her off-seeing partner, and the flute that Mio uses used to belong to Miyabi before she presumably perished. Eunie then asks Mio about the possibility of Miyabi coming back as a Moebius; Mio says that she would accept it.

Mio later reveals to Noah that Miyabi died when an experiment went wrong. Mio laments that Miyabi lost her life while saving Mio's, despite Miyabi being younger than her. Mio requests that she and Noah exchange flutes, to allow Miyabi's flute to be used after Mio dies.

Side Story: Mio[edit]

Side Story: Mio is part of the main story.

Through M's memories, it is revealed that Miyabi is alive after the accident and is now under the control of Y for her use in his experiment with both Keves and Agnus soldiers in a rebuilt Colony Omega. It is also revealed that Mio, Sena and Miyabi were originally from Colony Theta. In a flashback, Mio and Miyabi send off several husks before Miyabi explains the purpose of the off-seer to Mio after a battle with an unknown Kevesi Colony. Suddenly they were transferred to Colony Omega for no reason other than for daily experimentations, rather than fighting. It is also revealed that the accident was a result of its Flame Clock malfunctioning, destroying the Colony, with Miyabi sacrificing herself to save Mio and Sena. When the party reaches Colony Omega at Captocorn Peak, they find not only Miyabi under Y's control, but Mwamba, Hackt, and Cammuravi, reborn in their late term before their deaths, much to the party's surprise. It is revealed by Y that he repurposed Miyabi's off-seeing into stabilizing the minds of the fighters, due to their lack of true growth before he set them loose on the party.

After a grueling battle, Noah and Mio decide to use their off-seer melody to reach Miyabi's feelings. They are successful at not only freeing Miyabi from Y's control, but the reborn Mwamba, Hackt, and Cammuravi as well. Enraged, Y transforms into his Moebius form and engages the party himself but is swiftly defeated. After Y's defeat, Noah and Mio destroy Colony Omega's Flame Clock, freeing everyone from the mad scientist's grasp for good while he ominously warns the party that he will be watching them before retreating. Mio and Sena are very happy at their reunion with Miyabi. Noah offers to return her flute, but she declines. After this, Miyabi joins the party as a Hero.

Happiness[edit]

In the Ascension Quest Happiness, Miyabi decides to enter a cooking contest that is being hosted by Travis, much to Mio's surprise. Manana also enters, declaring Miyabi her rival. The party asks people around the City on locations of ingredients for the contest. When looking for Miyabi's ingredients, the party collects Smushi Rice, Refreshing Piranhax Meat, Glitter Radishes and Soyprimo Sauce from Boxy (who shares a mother-daughter relationship with Miyabi). For Manana's ingredients, the party collects Mottlemarble Aries Meat, Killjoy Crustip Meat, Cozy Rhogul Egggems and Lucky Marrin Thickcuts. When the cooking contest begins, the hosts are Miyabi, Manana, Nissick, and Monica, while the judges are Boomer, Ghondor, Wellwell, and San (who is the youngest judge). Despite Miyabi's best efforts, Manana ultimately wins the contest. Despite losing, she is happy with how her dish turned out.

Other appearances[edit]

Miyabi can be among the recruited Heroes to aid the party in the final battle against Z, declaring the party's hopes are one as she is summoned. After Z's defeat, Miyabi can be seen on the Agnian side as Aionios splits back into the two worlds it was created from.

Lore[edit]

  • During the Ascension Quest, Happiness, it is revealed that Miyabi and Boxy share a mother-daughter relationship after moving to the City.
  • Miyabi enjoys reading the picture book, The Has-Been Bean King and the Quest for Peas.
  • After moving into the City, Miyabi takes part in the Lost Numbers' training from the sidelines.
  • Miyabi has her own off-seeing melody, Off-Seer - Miyabi.
  • It is vauge whether Miyabi survived the incident that destroyed Colony Omega, or whether she was reborn like Y's other soldiers.
    • The following facts suggest she survived:
      • Miyabi has her full memories intact. Y's other soldiers remember small things (e.g. Mwamba remembers Noah's name), but are shown in dialogue to have lost most of their memories, as with normal rebirths. During the side quest A Chance Encounter, this difference is noted but not explored.
      • Miyabi claims to have been listening "every day" since the incident, which would not be possible if she had died and been brought back to life.
    • By contrast, according to Xenoblade 3 Official Artworks Aionios Moments, Miyabi was indeed reborn by Y. It is implied that Mio's melody undid Y's brainwashing and restored her memories.

Trivia[edit]

  • Miyabi is the only Hero that joins the party after completing an Ascension Quest instead of a Hero Quest, as she joins the party after completing Side Story: Mio.
  • Miyabi is likely named after the Japanese concept of the same name, the ideal of elegance via eliminating all crude and vulgar aspects.
