- For other articles titled "Key item", see Key item (disambiguation).
Key items are special items in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Future Redeemed. They are items that perform a specific gameplay or story purpose, and are often limited in number.
Key items' sources vary. Some are found in the overworld or as a reward for defeating certain enemies; others are granted to the party upon viewing certain cutscenes in quests (or in the main story). Their uses are equally varied:
- Many quest objectives directly require that key items be acquired.
- Some are used to unlock new gameplay mechanics or advance the party's combat abilities.
- Some act as keys, opening doors and gates to allow access to otherwise-inaccessible areas.
- Some are used as currency.
- Some are required for Field Crafting in Future Redeemed.
- Some allow for new meals to be made.
Yet others are used for more specific purposes that are not listed above.
