Joran is a character from Xenoblade Chronicles 3. He was friends with Noah, Eunie, Lanz, and Riku who died protecting Lanz when the latter was in his second term during an Agnian attack at Colony 14 prior to the start of the game.

Appearance and personality

Joran resembles an overweight boy with shaggy green hair and amber eyes. Joran wears a sleeveless black turtleneck and pants and shoes of the same color.

Joran is insecure, but a kind person. Joran cares for his friends, willing to risk his life just to save Lanz during their fight with Garvel as well as sacrificing himself to save Lanz from falling debris. Joran believes that he wants to be a use when he dies.

Story arc

Joran and his friends Noah, Lanz and Eunie are seen dashing through a crowd for the Queen's anniversary in their hometown. When the clock strikes six, time appears to stop and everyone except for Noah freezes in place.

In a flashback, Joran is shown fighting in a training exercise alongside Noah, Eunie, and Lanz. They end up losing the standoff with Garvel's team after he decides to put himself in harm's way in order to heal Lanz. Afterwards, an angry Lanz attempts to punch Joran for his recklessness only for Noah to stop him, followed by Eunie who claims that Joran did the right thing. The next day, the four friends attend a Homecoming; one that is conducted by the Queen of Keves herself.

In the present, in the bathing tents, it is revealed through a conversation between Noah and Eunie that Joran was killed a couple years ago, and that his death is why Noah became an off-seer in the first place. In a flashback Noah and Joran discuss about their Homecomings, hoping to be of some use when eventually dies.

In another flashback, as everyone is calling out their Blades, Joran calls out a rod-type Blade and cast a simple area healing Art. When Garvel and his gang targets Noah for his blunt sword, he tries to warn him, only for him to bully Noah and break his sword. He, Noah, Eunie, and Lanz later visits Riku in his workshop who offers Lucky Seven to Noah.

At Colony Lambda, Consul J reveals himself to be Joran who was revived as a Moebius after his death. In a flashback after defeating J; Noah, Eunie, Lanz, Riku, Garvel, and Joran are seen fleeing during an attack on Colony 14. During the escape, as Lanz and Garvel is stuck under debris, Joran volunteered to help them get free, prompting the others to lift the debris, allowing Lanz and Garvel to crawl out. Joran then notices a loose tower falling, prompting him to push Lanz out of the way, sacrificing himself as he is crushed by it. His blood is seen pooling out of the fallen tower as Lanz helplessly cries out his name.

After reaching the City, Lanz reminisces Joran crafting miniatures of himself, Noah, Eunie, and Lanz. When Noah, Eunie, and Lanz asked him who's the fourth miniature, he told them that him in the future.

At the Cloudkeep, the party manages to reason with J, only for D to forcibly interlink with him to attack the party but is defeated. D then demands J to give him more power, calling him a "deadweight loser" in the process. J, reverting back to Joran, had enough of being looked down on overloads D with power, before throwing himself off the Cloudkeep, sacrificing himself to destroy D. Before his death, a younger version of Lanz apologizes to him, saying that they'll meet again in the future before saying goodbye.

In the epilogue as time moves once again, Joran is with Eunie and Lanz who reminds Noah that the fireworks will start without him.
