Jin Uzuki (ジン・ウヅキ) is a playable character in the Xenosaga series. He is the older brother of Shion Uzuki.
Appearance and personality[edit]
Jin is a man with green eyes, long black hair tied in the back and two bangs; which in Episode III is cut short. Jin wears a black kimono with a dragon pattern tabi socks and straw sandals. With the Swimsuit skill equipped, Jin wears a red fundoshi. As a soldier, Jin wears a green Federation combat suit. In Xenosaga I & II, and A Missing Year, Jin wears a black trench coat. In Episode III, Jin wears a green overcoat, white poofy pants and black boots; a yin-yang symbol hangs from a red thread, his swimsuit consists of a grayish-white shirt and shorts of the same color.
Jin presents himself as a relatively calm and composed person. Even in the most dire of circumstances, he tends to keep a cool head. Despite this, he is often at odds with himself when it comes to his relationship with his sister Shion. Although he only wants the best for the people close to him, his distant nature and tendency to stick to traditions results in people like Shion and Pellegri (Jin's former lover) viewing him as callous and lacking empathy. It's not uncommon for him to push his own personal ideals onto Shion and Pellegri, and this often results in the two of them becoming more distant to him. In turn, Jin tends to think lowly of himself, even going as far as to call himself pathetic.
Story arc[edit]
Background[edit]
Little is known about Jin's early life. He grew up alongside his much younger sister Shion on the planet Miltia, and was reared by his parents Suou and Aoi. At some point, Jin studied the art of the sword under his grandfather Ouga Uzuki.
Miltian Conflict[edit]
Not long before the Miltian Conflict, Jin was stationed on the planet Zavarov as a soldier in the Special Operations forces of the Galaxy Federation military led by Lieutenant General Helmer. Jin was specifically a part of the intelligence bureau's special missions unit alongside Pellegri, under the command of Colonel Margulis, a fellow student of Jin's grandfather. During this time Jin and Pellegri developed a romantic relationship, but it wasn't long before both Pellegri and Margulis disappeared from the military, leaving Jin directly under the command of Lieutenant General Helmer. Soon after, the Special Operations forces, as well as the Marine Corps' land operations division, began their first descent on Miltia.
14 years before the events of the games, Jin was ordered by Helmer to take part in an independent investigation to acquire the Y-Data and determine the parties behind the Miltian Conflict. This investigation prevented him from joining in the first descent. However, in the meantime he was able to acquire a certain data disk from his father Suou, who had been leaking information to Jin while working undercover in the U-TIC Organization. Jin fought in the second descent and was one of the few survivors of that time, as much of the Federation's forces had either been killed by berserk Realians affected by the Song of Nephilim or obliterated by the massive mobile weapon Proto Ω. During the third descent, he ran into Canaan and chaos, who had touched down on Miltia to rescue the remaining U.R.T.V. forces. They fought off the enemy together and eventually were confronted by Margulis, who blocked their way. Jin battled with Margulis, eventually striking his face and leaving a scar that remains to this day. Jin was also injured in the altercation, but managed to make the ground beneath Margulis give way, making him fall into the depths of Labyrinthos. Afterwards, Jin had Canaan download a backup of the data disk, believing it would be safer with him. Jin then split off from Canaan and chaos to head further into Labyrinthos.
Jin arrived at the Acute Neurosis Treatment Facility in time to save Shion from the 27-Series Asura, but was too late to save his parents. He and Shion escaped from Miltia before its destruction, but in the end Jin was unable to acquire the Y-Data and his own copy of his father's data disk was lost.
Life on Second Miltia[edit]
After the Miltian Conflict, Jin and Shion took refuge on Second Miltia, a recently terraformed planet in a nearby system that was already undergoing immigration efforts. Jin continued to live there working as a small-time doctor, but the secrets he felt forced to keep from Shion made them grow distant. When Shion began working at Vector Industries, she moved residency to the Dämmerung, leaving Jin to live alone and distancing the two further. Eventually Jin grew bored of working as a doctor and started running a used-book store.
Episode I[edit]
Jin is scarcely seen in Episode I. While Shion is stationed on the Woglinde, she has a video communication with him. Not having seen each other in person for two years, Jin is insistent that Shion come home to Second Miltia for them to visit their parents' memorial. Shion calls such a practice an "obscure ancient ritual", questioning if he'd been reading his old books again. She taunts Jin, telling him she won't take care of him when he's old, senile, and alone.
At the end of the game, Jin is shown visiting his parents' aforementioned memorial as the Elsa makes its way down to Second Miltia.
Episode II[edit]
Jin runs into Shion, Junior, and chaos at Moby Dick's Café on Second Miltia, much to Shion's dismay. Jin introduces himself to Junior and pretends to be meeting chaos for the first time. After lying to Jin in an effort to avoid staying at their parents' home, Shion relents when she receives a call from Allen, informing her that maintenance on KOS-MOS wouldn't be completed for several more days. Jin invites Junior and chaos to come along with them. Shion questions Jin on his earlier desire to become a doctor after she finds that he remodeled the house into a used-book store. He says there was little for him to do in that field with the advancement of modern technology. Jin pushes back regarding Shion's desire to help Junior and the others, believing it to be too dangerous for her, not realizing the help she has already provided them. He tells her that they should pay respects to their dead parents the next day but she refuses to go to their graves. She nearly blames him for their deaths before realizing what she is saying, then leaves. Jin apologizes to Junior and chaos for what they witnessed and allows them to stay the night. That night he talks with chaos and asks him to take care of Shion for him.
Helmer later visits Jin at his home, requesting his services once again, to find out the truth of the Miltian Conflict using the data in Canaan. When Albedo opens the path to Old Miltia, Helmer plans a covert operation to acquire the Zohar, sending Jin on the mission along with Junior, Canaan and the others on the Elsa. Making it to the Labyrinthos mainframe, Jin is able to review the data he left in Canaan 14 years ago. It reveals the involvement of Hyams and the Immigrant Fleet in the Miltian Conflict. Jin speculates that Joachim Mizrahi was not behind things after all and that he tried to isolate the Zohar, U-DO and Miltia in order to prevent the worst case scenario. Heading further into Labyrinthos, Margulis appears and Jin does battle with him once again. Margulis is forced to retreat after being defeated.
Jin consoles Shion after KOS-MOS kills Cecily and Cathe. Jin speculates that Febronia loved Shion as much as her sisters and wanted to save her just as much. Speaking to himself afterwards, he admits to being envious of Febronia and wonders what he could possibly do for Shion. At the end of the game Jin says goodbye to Shion on the Dämmerung, telling her he is going to investigate Ormus and boards the Elsa.

Episode I
Jin
BORN: T.C. 4732
AGE: 35 years old
His full name is Jin Uzuki and he is Shion's older brother, related by blood.
It is difficult to discern his characteristics from just the visuals, but he does appear to be hiding something behind that goofy look.
He is an expert swordsman -- maybe.
Unfortunately his moment to shine will not arrive until the next episode (our apologies to those of you who are just dying to see him in action).
Episode III
Jin Uzuki
Former Captain of the Galaxy Federation Special Ops Intelligence Bureau.
Former Captain of the Galaxy Federation Special Ops Intelligence Bureau. Older Brother of Shion.
While in the military, he was ranked directly under Margulis and was Pellegri's supervisor. He and Margulis both learned swordsmanship under Jin's grandfather, Ouga Uzuki.
After becoming aware of Margulis' treachery during the Miltian Conflict, Jin began his own secret-information activities under then-Lieutenant General Helmer. His relationship with chaos also began during this period.
While he shared a deep connection with Pellegri during his time in the Federation military, they never walked the same path again, due to differences in their relative stations. It is a particularly sad conclusion considering that his mother Aoi, like Pellegri, had inherited the bloodline of the Immigrant Fleet, and the same blood clearly ran through Jin.
Though his life was lost defending chaos in the Zarathustra battle, his spirit--his consciousness--travels alongside Nephilim to the distant land of Lost Jerusalem. Perhaps his consciousness, like those of countless others, lies in sleep eternal, awaiting the appointed day. Until a time when all has gathered.
