The Immigrant Fleet is a widespread political and religious organization in the Xenosaga series that claims ownership of the Zohar. As a political body, they claim sovereignty over star systems populated by their religious followers in opposition to the Galaxy Federation's governing. The two groups have been at odds for centuries.

Description[edit]

Immigrant Fleet star systems are generally acknowledged as independent nations, not officially considered a branch of the greater fleet. While this may be the case for certain splinter groups, most star systems under Immigrant Fleet control are actually centralized under the rule of Ormus, the secret religious organization that leads the fleet as a whole. The Immigrant Fleet's Patriarch and Pope is actually the head of Ormus, and many departments within Ormus operate to control the Immigrant Fleet and its denizens to serve the interests of Ormus. As a result, Immigrant Fleet leadership can sometimes be at odds with the extreme operations carried out by Ormus.

Story[edit]

History[edit]

The Immigrant Fleet was the first to escape Lost Jerusalem on the ship known as Pleroma (not to be confused with the asteroid base Pleroma), bringing the Zohar with them. Over time, the fleet's nomadic influence expanded across the cosmos, creating independent splinter fleets that emigrated to different planets. Despite being geographically separate, the values of the greater fleet could stay united under the theocratic values of Ormus, the religious group that led the fleet from the shadows.

Eventually, at the start of the T.C. 4000s, the Immigrant Fleet reunited with another fleet that escaped from Lost Jerusalem known widely as the Galaxy Federation. Despite attempts to make mutual exchanges, cultural differences and the Immigrant Fleet's possession of the Zohar perpetuated the divide between the groups. As a result, countless conflicts broke out between the two groups over several centuries.

  • The Immigrant Fleet's ships were designed to appear organic and similar in appearance to crustaceans.[1]

One of the space fleets that escaped Earth when Lost Jerusalem disappeared. During an extended period of nomadic existence, the fleet's scope expanded and split apart, and each splinter fleet emigrated to a newly discovered settlement area.

At the start of the T.C. 4000s, it reunited with another fleet that had escaped from Earth--a group that had already formed a united organization of nations in the form of the Galaxy Federation. The two groups began mutual exchanges, but their backgrounds and cultural disparities were too much to bridge. Most importantly of all, the Immigrant Fleet was in possession of the Zohar. This led to a history of wars and truces that has repeated itself countless times.

In the story, the Immigrant Fleet is mostly perceived as identical to Ormus, but this is not always true. The influence of Ormus doctrine has been diluted amongst some Immigrant Fleet splinter groups, and many have begun their own form of self-rule. These groups have advanced a policy of reconciliation with the Federation, and they would later join the Federation organization. It would appear that the Immigrant Fleet does not consist entirely of pious worshipers swearing allegiance to Ormus.
