- This article is about the Aux Core. For the Skill RAM, see Hunter's Chemistry (Skill RAM).
Hunter's Chemistry is an Aux Core in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Torna ~ The Golden Country. It increases the amount of affinity between Driver and Blade at the start of combat, in any of the following cases:
- The party's weapons were drawn at the time the enemy aggroed the party.
- The fight starts immediately after a loading screen, such as story bosses.
- The fight is part of a Challenge Battle.
Shoulder to Shoulder is the equivalent for all other cases.
Overview[edit]
Hunter's Chemistry applies to the Blades active at the start of combat, even if the Aux Core is equipped to a Blade in a Driver's second or third slot. It also works across Aegis forms (so, for example, equipping Hunter's Chemistry on Pyra will increase Mythra's starting affinity if the latter is Rex's initial active Blade). Moreover, it stacks across the party; a Hunter's Chemistry Aux Core on one Driver will increase the starting affinity of the initial Blade of other Drivers. However, it does not affect the starting affinity of any Blade not active at the start of combat.
Many rare and legendary Blades have a default starting affinity of 500 or higher, meaning two rank V versions of the Aux Core are sufficient to achieve the maximum effect, starting combat at maximum affinity. Other Blades start at 450, 400, or 350 affinity by default, and these require a total of at least three of this Aux Core for the maximum effect, assuming their affinity is not otherwise augmented using e.g. cosmetic pouch items.
Hunter's Chemistry is an extremely worthwhile Aux Core to have, both because its effect is useful - the benefits of maximum affinity are very strong, to the extent that the start-of-combat boost can make or break a fight - and because its opportunity cost is so low. Just a few instances of this Aux Core on two or three of the party's backup Blades is all that is necessary, leaving all of the slots available on the party's primary Blades for other Aux Cores.
