The Gebler Special Forces is a group of characters from Xenogears. They are a group of five Gebler soldiers assigned under Elly that repeatedly fight against the party during the game.

Appearance and personality

In sprite form, all five wear the same Gebler uniform throughout the game, but each has customized portrait art. Broyer is a large man with short purple hair. Helmholtz wears glasses and has long purple hair held in a ponytail. Renk has red hair, a beard and a mustache. Stratski has shoulder length green hair. Vance has a more boyish look and has short orange hair.

Of the five, Renk seems to be the most agreeable and respectable towards Elly. Vance on the other hand is arrogant and sexist towards her, and vain over his good looks, additionally he is addicted to the performance drug, 'Drive'. While Broyer is large in size he is not a threatening individual and has a warm personality. He is not an excitable person. Helmholtz is cool, calm and collected and an excellent judge of situations. Stratski is light hearted without many worries but is a dangerous fighter.

Story arc

The Gebler Special Forces is made up five soldiers, Broyer, Helmholtz, Renk, Stratski and Vance. Renk is the leader of the team. All five of them are Solaris third class citizens whose origins come among the land dwellers. They have a specialty in invading enemy posts and using destructive tactics. They first appear during a nighttime attack of the Pirate's Secret Base and attempt to destroy the place using the special Gear Schpariel. Upon their defeat, they return to Gebler Headquarters in Bledavik. There they are put under the command of Elly. Initially surprised at having a young woman for a commanding officer they disrespect her, but follow her commands to head into the mountains near the border with Aveh and Kislev. There they find Fei leading a squadron and attack, but are defeated by him. Elly then personally takes part in fighting Fei, impressing them with her abilities in piloting the Vierge.

After their defeat they return to Bledavik once more and eventually are given new orders to carry out an attack on Nortune. By this point most of them have more respect for Elly, but are still surprised at her sympathy for the land dwellers given that she is a first class Solaris citizen. In Nortune they take on Fei and Rico and again are defeated. After this point, the five of them disappear for a large portion of the game, but appear once more on the second disc. After the limiters are removed from the land dwellers and many humans on the planet begin to mutate, the five of them abandon Gebler and head to Nisan, hoping to protect Elly. They appear during Ramsus' attack on Nisan and one last time as Elly is about to head to Golgoda in order to save Fei and the others.

Renk and Helmholtz pilot their own Wandknight Gear, while the other three have their own custom unit. Broyer pilots the Aegisknight, Stratski pilots the Swordknight and Vance pilots the Clawknight.
