The Excalibur is a large ship that appears in Xenogears.
Description[edit]
The Excalibur is a Prayer Star class mobile reconnaissance vessel that was placed on board the Eldridge. There were two Excaliburs that were stored on board. One was utilized by Sophia when she sacrificed herself during the war 500 years ago, while the second was used during the game and operated by Sigurd. It was a little known fact that there were two of the ship recovered. Both ships were made along the same lines, with the one point of difference being the inability to use an impact fore shaft battling ram, which only the second was able to do. The ram was originally meant to be used as a weapon for the Gear form of the Yggdrasil IV.
Analysis[edit]
The first Excalibur appears in the game used by Sophia during the Solaris - Shevat war that occurred 500 years ago. While Shevat agreed to hand over Sophia and the rebel army, she instead used the Excalibur in a suicide attack to crash into the Merkava, destroying it.
In the present day a second Excalibur is used, once again in an attack on Merkava which has been reconstructed. The Excalibur is used as part of an operation also involving the Yggdrasil IV which attacks the Merkava's cannon during a brief window when its barrier is down. It is destroyed as part of the attack.
