This article is about the area in Xenosaga Episode II. For the area in Xenogears, see Desert (XG).

The Desert is an area in Xenosaga Episode II - Jenseits von Gut und Böse. It can only be accessed in the post game.

Geography[edit]

The Desert can be split into five distinct areas.

The first area is a sandy cliffside with several pillars and quicksand pits scattered about. There are three Arvakvs in this area. One on the western rock formation, guarding a treasure chest, one hiding in one of the central quicksand pits (must be destroyed for the Arvakv to come out) and one on the eastern rock incline, guarding Segment Address No. 8. The northern side of the first area features a cave entrance leading to the second area, while the northwestern rock formation only accessible via a passage from the second area contains another treasure chest.

The second area is the cave's interior, featuring various breakable containers as well as a central platform that can be rotated to reach different places and exits. The second and third area only have Ashmed Bapuz as encounterable enemies. Besides the main entrance, there is a single exit to the southwest that leads to a treasure chest in the first area as well as three exits to the north, the leftmost of which leads towards the end of the dungeon.

The third area contains different path at varied elevations that connect to both the following and previous areas. The center and rightmost entrances contain breakable objects and trasure chests, while the leftmost one leads to two different entrances to the fourth area. The top path leads to another Ashmed Bapuz guarding the path to a treasure chest in the fourth area, while the right path leads to the boss arena.

The fourth area features a treasure chest accessible from the third area's top path as well as the arena where Scarabeille and later Mikumari can be challenged. In front of the boss location there is a save point, while behind the boss exists a passage further into the cave.

The fifth area contains a treasure chest, a yellow Forbidden Device, which allows the player to dive back out to the Ormus Stronghold, and a ledge where the characters can get out of their E.S. and move to the final area.

The sixth and final area of the Desert contains a staircase outside the cave that leads to a multi-colored Forbidden Device. If the player has defeated the bosses at the Desert, Factory and Heaven's Ruins and obtained Sequencer D from Segment Address 12, they can use it to reach the Space Coliseum and fight Dark Erde Kaiser.

Story[edit]

The Desert is an optional dungeon that can be visited after the player beats the game. The player will need to visit the Other Professor in Second Miltia and obtain Sequencer B from him. The player can then access the Desert by using the yellow Forbidden Device included within the Ormus Stronghold. Once in the Desert, the player can beat the boss Scarabeille in order to access the Sequencer C from a chest behind it. This enables the player to move onto the next optional post game dungeon, the Factory. Once Dark Erde Kaiser has been defeated, Mikumari appears in Scarabeille's arena and can be challenged as a superboss. [note 1]
