Consul Y is an antagonist in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. He is a member of the Consuls and the creator of Flame Clocks.

Appearance and personality

Like most of the Consuls, Y wears the standard red armor and black cape. Y wears a bulky samurai-inspired helmet with thick, tube-like adornments on the back of it. Underneath the helmet, Y has platinum blond hair, red eyes, and purple cracks on his face, similar to Z. Y is among the largest of the Consuls, having a tall and sturdy build. In his Moebius form, Y appears as a bulky bipedal monster similar to Moebius K. He has a draconic face with multiple layers of teeth, and long yellow spikes on his arms and legs.

Being one of the original Moebius, Y is one of Z’s closest disciples. His hulking form betrays his high intellect and dignified demeanor. He speaks eloquently, sometimes peppering his speech with archaic language. Y paints himself as an altruist, having a genuine desire to bring about a reality in which all of his kin may prosper to the fullest extent of their capabilities. However, he disregards ethics entirely when conducting experiments on the soldiers under his command. He does not value his subjects’ feelings, finding them trivial and of no consequence to Moebius’ development as a species. He lacks even the semblance of empathy and believes that his subjects’ bodies are his to do with as he pleases. Y is particularly captivated by the brilliance of the life energy that feeds the Flame Clocks, obsessing over ways to intensify its radiance so that Moebius may luxuriate in the nourishment it provides.

Side Story: Mio

Y is the main antagonist of Side Story: Mio, it is revealed that he enslaved Miyabi, a reborn Mwamba, Hackt, and Cammuravi for experimentations. He is first seen testing them on some wild Volff, using Miyabi's off-seeing melody to pacify them. When the party reaches Colony Omega, Y appears before the party personally, revealing that he brought them all back closer to their homecoming. Additionally Y reveals that is the creator of the Flame Clock system, before he set the enslaved soldiers loose on the party. However, Noah and Mio used their off-seeing melodies to free Miyabi and the others from the mad scientist's grasp. Enraged, Y decides to step in and battle the party personally as he transforms into his Moebius form but is defeated, allowing Noah to destroy Colony Omega's Flame Clock, freeing all the soldiers bound to it, forcing Y to retreats, but not before crypticlly remarking that he'll be watching the party.

Side Story: Lanz

Y is seen speaking with H about an experimental Flame Clock he made which he planned to throw away. He initially describes H's plan to use it as "daring lunacy", though she manages to convince him otherwise.
