Consul K is an antagonist in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. He is a member of the Consuls.
Appearance and personality[edit]
In his humanoid form, K has a somewhat stocky build. As with most of the Consuls, he wears the standard red armor and black cape. He also wears a spherical helmet with breather tube-like decorations on the front and a pointed collar on the back, like that of a traditional caped vampire. Despite his overreliance on his Iris, K is most often seen with his eyes closed; on the rare occasions that he has them open, they're shown to be red with black swirls. In his Moebius form, K appears as a large, muscular, humanoid monster with a crested head, a pointed nose, flat teeth, a ring around his waist, and an infinity symbol positioned on his solar plexus. When K is unmasked following his death, it's revealed that he was an elderly man with a wrinkled face, thin brown hair, and thick eyebrows with slits cut into them. He also wore dangly spade-shaped earrings.
Boisterous and flamboyant, K adores being the center of attention. He's playful and enjoys striking poses and strutting his stuff. He loves being a bad guy and delights in putting on a show for his enemies, acting dramatically and chewing the scenery. Upon his death, he cries out that he "just wanted to play around a little more." Unlike some of the other Consuls, K isn't outwardly sadistic—he sees soldiers as fuel and doesn't hesitate to kill them to benefit himself, but he doesn't take pleasure in doing so. He's arrogant and overconfident, as demonstrated when he cuts his own finger on the edge of Noah's Veiled Sword just to prove his point. K can be quite dainty in matters concerning filth, and loudly complains when his standards for cleanliness are not met. K is known for making heavy use of his Iris to track his enemies, which is what ultimately leads to his downfall. A conversation with an NPC in the City reveals that K is a man of culture and has commissioned art of himself, which the player may obtain as part of a side quest.
Story Arc[edit]
K is first seen observing the infinity symbol in the sky projected by D. He is later seen in a meeting with his fellow Consuls before being sent after the party by N.
K then flies to Colony 4 in Eagus Wilderness in a Kevesi shuttle, as he disembarks, he complains about its dusty environment, with Ethel reassuring him that the rain season is coming before he complains about the black fog. Ethel then shows him to his quarters. When he arrives, he complains about how dirty the room is, before Ethel warns him not to escalate his complaints. K then orders Ethel to destroy the party before taking control of her and the soldiers of Colony 4.
When Ethel breaks free from his control due to the black fog, an annoyed K confronts the party outside Colony 4, knocking out Ethel before engaging the party personally, calling himself the "big bad boss", before exclaiming "boo". After being defeated, the wounded K transforms into his Moebius form and proceeds to harvest the life from the Colony's Flame Clock to heal himself, taunting the party he can hurt him all he wants as he can heal, even going as far as cutting his finger on Noah's Veiled Sword to prove his point prompting Noah to call off the party's attack on him. Noah then comes up with an idea of destroy the Flame Clock to cut off his healing source, but is afraid that it will kill everyone bound to it, though Mio encourages him as she will share the burden of the potential lives loss due to his idea. Noah then orders the rest of the party to distract K while he goes for the Flame Clock, but K anticipated Noah's plan and begins using the Colony's Ferronis to repel the party, even though Lanz and Sena Interlinked for the first time, they were eventually overwhelmed by K's onslaught. It was only when Eunie and Taion Interlinked for the first time that the party finally gets an edge. K then tries to find the party but he was unable due to the black fog causing him to be ambushed by Lanz and Eunie in their Ouroboros form. Noah and then Lanz and Eunie tries to destroy the Flame Clock with no success. It was then that Noah unsheathed Lucky Seven for the first time that the Flame Clock is finally destroyed, saving Colony 4's inhabitants and depriving K of his healing source.
Without the Flame Clock, K is swiftly defeated by the party. In his final moments, he exclaims that he wanted to play around a little more, and declaring his fear of death before dying, with his corpse reverting back to his humanoid form. Lanz then removes the helmet from K's body, shocked that his face is all wrinkled. Noah and Mio then sent off the late Consul despite the other party's protest. After his death, the fallen Consul is mocked by D for his overreliance on his Iris, with B claiming it was bad luck due to the black fog.
