Consul J is an antagonist in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. He is a member of the Consuls.

Appearance and personality[edit]

J is the smallest of the Consuls, in his humanoid form, J wears the usual red armor and black cape and wears a jester-like helmet. In his Moebius form, J resembles an overweight demonic jester with large hands with the infinity symbol on his chest.

J is the most childish of the Consuls, but also sadistic at times and has a superiority complex. He can also steal people's memories and remake them into mud puppets. In battle, J uses a dark version of the Kevesi Healing Rod.

Story Arc[edit]

J first appears (although not known by the party at the time) Interlinked with D during his scuffle at Melnath's Shoulder.

J properly appears when he and D separate from their Interlinked form at the Amphitheater and attends a meeting with his fellow Consuls.

J later interrupts an argument between D and his fellow Consuls after K's demise at the hands of the party, saying that he's heading to Colony Lambda in which all Consuls approve.

At Colony Lambda, J at first takes control of Commander Isurd with his Iris, similar to K before deciding against it, instead, he urges Isurd to give him all his emotions, feelings, and thoughts in which he uses to create mud puppets of a twisted, revenge filled versions of him and several Agnian Soldiers.

After the party defeats Isurd's mud puppet, J reveals himself to the party before directly addressing Noah, Eunie, Lanz and Riku expressing his joy as he reveals his true identify: Joran, shocking the entire party. J reveals he has become Moebius after his death who in which gave him the power to take people's memories and refashion them into mud puppets. He then demonstrates his power by destroying the remaining Agnian mud puppets expressing sadistic pleasure in doing so before he engages the party. After being defeated, Lanz refuses to believe that Joran would side with Moebius, citing that he saved his friends lives during an Agnian attack. J claims by saving them, he rose above his friends before departing.

J later returns to the Amphitheater, being mocked by P and O for his failure to kill the party. J claims he was only interested in making his presence known to the party, with D backing him up before giggling to himself. X then calls O and P, saying that N has summoned them, much to the duo's delight. As the Consuls depart, he says farewell before laughing to himself again.

After O, and P's deaths, J, D, and N are seen looking outside a window of Keves Castle, J wondering if the party will come, which N confirms. D then mocks him if he's gonna give them a hug, saying he wants out. N then explains he wants to show the Queen how hope dies, further explaining that she occupies the same existence that Moebius does.

J, while Interlinking with D, attacks the party again at the Annihilator Foundations while they are on their way to destroy the Annihilator. There D and J break up their Interlinked form, shocking Lanz. J briefly mocks the fallen P and O before the two of them reengage the Interlink and attack the party. During the battle, he protected D from Taion. Eunie, with the help of Taion, then manages to destroy the Annihilator just as it was about to fire on Colony 4. However, D and J managed to escape.

D and J, on Z's orders, were sent to kill Nia at the Cloudkeep. Just as the party wakes her up, D impales Nia with one of his spears, seemingly killing her. Eunie demands to know how they found the party, with D explaining to them is due to the fact that Mio is still half Moebius. Lanz demands J why he decides to work with D, with J reminding him that's he's Moebius. J then reveals that when he became Moebius, all of his past memories came back, but all of them met their deaths being useless before attacking the party.

After the party subdues D, J rants about being useless wanting to have "wings" like the party, comparing himself to a worm. But the party manages to reason with him, only for D to forcefully Interlink with him with intentions to behead the party to bring back to his collection.

After D is defeated, refusing to accept defeat, D demands J to give him more power, calling him a "deadweight loser". J had enough of being looked down on overloads D with power. D then tells him to stop and cancel the Interlink, but refused. J, reverting back to Joran declared that it's his choice, before throwing himself off to sacrifice himself for the party to destroy D, via an annihilation event. Before his death, Lanz apologizes to Joran, saying that they'll meet again in the future before saying goodbye.
