Appearances Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Consul D (ディー) is an antagonist in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. He is a Moebius who appears before the party and a member of the Consuls.

Appearance and personality[edit]

Like the majority of Consuls, D wears red armor and a black cape, in addition to a fur collar. D wears a helmet vaguely resembling the head of a hammerhead shark with beaded earrings hanging from either side. In his Moebius form, he takes the form of a tall, humanoid monster with a reptilian face, sharp teeth, a lemniscate on his solar plexus, a ring around his waist, and yellow spears on his wrists that he can fire as projectiles and regenerate. When Interlinking with J, his appearance becomes more demonic: he gains needle-like teeth, spikes on his shoulders and legs, glowing blue horns reminiscent of his helmet, and an additional lemniscate on his chest in the same location Moebius J has his.

Unlike some of the Consuls, D’s psychopathic tendencies predate his recruitment to Moebius. Whether he’s doing the killing or merely acting as a voyeur, there’s nothing D loves more than the spilling of blood. D is a sadist who gets a rush out of making his victims suffer. Suave and charming, D likes to tease and bully his opponents in a playful manner. D enjoys playing with people's fear, such as when he taunts Eunie about killing one of her previous incarnations to trigger her PTSD. He’s cocky and can be quite condescending, and it takes a lot to make him lose his cool. D always has his head in the game, being highly attuned to his surroundings. Between him and J, D is the one who runs the show.

Story arc[edit]

D makes his presence known to Noah, and Mio's parties by impaling Guernica with one of his spears at Melnath's Shoulder. He then approaches the party with Mwamba and Hackt in both of his hands and attempts to goad both sides into fighting each other again. When they refused, he kills both Mwamba and Hackt, much to the party's horror. Despite being mortally wounded, Guernica manages to get into a downed Armory-type Levnis and fights D, only for him to tear it apart and pull Guernica out. Noah frees him, prompting D to engage the party. D at first overwhelms the party, and it wasn't until Guernica activated the Ouroboros Stone, turning the entire party into Ouroboros with Noah and Mio Interlinking for the first time, that they finally gets an edge. Amused, D tells them that by Interlinking, they're one step as the same level as Moebius. Despite that, he also calls them failures. D reengaged the party, but was defeated. Upon his defeat, he concedes and departs, but not before projecting a Moebius symbol into the sky, marking the party as enemies.

After his encounter with the party, he returns to the Amphitheater, being chastised by P for running away as he and J break up their Interlinked form. He then attends the meeting with his fellow Consuls, being reminded by N that his encounter with the party is fate.

After K's downfall, D mocks the fallen Consul for his overreliance on his Iris with B claiming it was bad luck due to the black fog interfering. D explains that K's reliance on the Iris caused his demise, further saying that the Iris is not needed if he uses his other senses. P reminds him that he still ran from the party after being defeated, with O agreeing. D said he had a good time fighting them before he fled. H then accuses him of excuses before J interrupts them, saying he's going to face the party next. The rest of the Consuls nod in agreement. D in his Moebius form appears in a flashback, where he destroys Colony 18 at Rae-Bel Tableland before killing a previous incarnation of Eunie among the wreckage.

D makes a brief appearance after J's return from his battle with the party, supporting his decision before X calls O and P. After O and P's deaths, J, D, and N are seen looking outside a window of Keves Castle, J wondering if the party will come. N confirms that they will. D then mocks him, saying if he's gonna give them a hug, count him out. N then explains he wants to show the Queen how hope dies, further explaining that she occupies the same existence that Moebius does.

D, while Interlinking with J, attacks the party again at the Annihilator Foundations while they are on their way to destroy the Annihilator. D's mere presence triggers Eunie's PTSD throughout the encounter. There, after D and J break up their Interlinked form, he removes his helmet, revealing his face to the party. The two of them reengage the Interlink and attack the party. During the battle, D uses his air-sensing horns to anticipate the party's every move, giving him a tremendous advantage. He taunts the traumatized Eunie about killing her past self in addition to cruelly remarking that he and her met before, surprising Taion. However, Eunie was able to get over her trauma, and with the help of Taion, managed to destroy the Annihilator just as it was about to fire on Colony 4. However, D and J managed to escape.

D and J, on Z's orders, were sent to kill Nia at the Cloudkeep. Just as the party wakes her up, D impales Nia with one of his spears, seemingly killing her. Eunie demands to know how they found the party, with D explaining to them is due to the fact that Mio is still half Moebius. After subduing D, the party manages to reason with Joran, only for D to forcibly Interlink with him. D explains his previous life as the Agnian soldier, Blackblaze Dirk who collected heads from other soldiers to add to his collection, a hobby he continues as a Moebius, with Taion recognizing him from a textbook. He states before coming to the Cloudkeep, he went to the Ferronis where he keeps his collection of heads. His tale disgusts Eunie, before the rest of the party encourage her to fight through it. D declares that he will kill the party and take their heads to add to his collection before reengaging the party.

Despite this, D is defeated. Refusing to accept defeat, he demands Joran to give him more power, calling him a "dead weight loser". Joran, having enough of being looked down on, overloads D with power in addition of black fog forming around him, due to Interlinking for too long. D demands Joran to cancel the Interlink, but he refuses and decides to throw himself and D off the Cloudkeep. D can only scream in horror as he falls to his death, followed by an annihilation event, killing D once and for all.

Species Agnian
Gender Male

Dirk (ディルク, Dirk), also known as Blackblaze Dirk (黒焔のディルク, Black Flame Dirk) has dirty blond hair with a fringe, similar to Mikhail from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, red eyes, a single earring, and stubbles. Dirk wears the standard Agnian military uniform.

Dirk was once an Agnian soldier who went psychotic and enjoys killing. Instead of taking lives with a Blade, he would usually decapitate his defeated enemies whether Agnian or Kevesi with his claws to bring back as trophies, a hobby he continues as a Moebius.

Lore[edit]

  • While Interlinking with J, D has the ability to sense the changes in the air with his horns.
  • Dirk stores his severed heads within capsules in a Ferronis at an undisclosed location.
  • Dirk is one of the only known characters to have used his own weapons instead of using a Blade, the other being Nikol.
