Collectopaedia Card

Collectopaedia Cards are a game mechanic in Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

Functionality[edit]

Collectopaedia Cards can be found under a tab in the Quests menu. Each card is issued by an NPC, with an attached quote from them asking for specific items.

Collectopaedia Cards contain a list of requested Collectibles that must be fulfilled. Alternatively, silver Nopon Coins can be used to complete the card without using any items; this is useful because several cards will be unlocked before the items necessary to complete them can be obtained. The cost to auto-complete increases with the rarity of the items needed. Upon completing a card, the party is rewarded with an item and affinity for the card-giver's associated location.

Once completed, a Collectopaedia Card can be completed again. However, the affinity given will be significantly lower, and any item rewards are replaced with a small amount of Experience instead. Collectopaedia Cards which progress a specific quest, or which require Colony Iota Goods, cannot be repeated and will be removed from the list after completion.

If the party has all items necessary for a card, an icon of a bag will be displayed next to it. If the card has not been completed before, an additional animated icon of sparkles will display next to the bag.

When a Collectopaedia Card is completed, the NPC who issued it attaches a quote of thanks. In the specific case of Colony 9 from Chapter 2 to the completion of Where The Heart Is, this quote is replaced with an ellipsis.

Story[edit]

The Collectopaedia Card system was invented by Alexandria of Colony Iota in the past, to aid in the distribution of supplies between Agnian colonies. In addition, the system was deliberately leaked to Keves so that Colony Iota could use it to spy on supply requests and identify potential moments of weakness for them to exploit.
