Class (XC3)
- For other articles titled "Class", see Class (disambiguation).
Classes are a battle mechanic in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Future Redeemed. Each party member's role in battle, weapon and Arts are determined by their class. The six fixed party members each have an initial class, but can switch to any other class through game progression. Additionally, by recruiting Heroes as seventh party members, their class typically becomes available for the main six party members.
Classes from Future Redeemed are exclusive to each character and can't be learned by the main-game party members.
Most main-game classes have twenty different ranks which are tracked for each main-party character individually. Characters increase their rank in a class by earning Class Points when in that class, or by spending Silver Nopon Coins. Ranking up in a class results in higher stat modifiers, more effective Arts and skills, and for Arts and skills to be mastered for use with other classes.
Mechanics[edit]
Each class has the following:
- Class Arts which are performed using X, Y, and B, a Talent Art, and a Chain Art. Normally, some of the Class Arts and the Talent Art may be used as Master Arts on other classes.
- Passive skills, some of which may also be used as Master Skills.
- A weapon with which users perform auto-attacks, Class Arts and Fusion Arts, as well as that class's non-Fusion Master Arts when used on other classes.
- A recharge type for the non-Fusion Class Arts: time-based or auto-attack-based. Classes which originate from Kevesi characters typically use time recharge, and those from Agnian characters use auto-attack recharge. Classes from characters who are neither Kevesi nor Agnian may have either time recharge or auto-attack recharge Arts (typically not both at once, although some do).
- A role: Attacker, Defender, or Healer. This determines their Role Actions and has other effects (see below).
- Stat modifiers that multiply the character's HP, Attack, Healing Power, Dexterity, and Agility. They also set the character's physical and ether defense.
Classes also have "ranks" in attack, defense, healing, and difficulty of player control: each receives a ranking of S, A, B, C, or D. These are not objective and instead represent a general indicator of what each class's strengths and weaknesses are (according to what the developers believed).
Each playable character in the main game also has an "aptitude" for each class, also ranging from S to D. This affects the rate at which the character receives Class Points when in that class, and therefore affects how quickly they increase class rank, with S being the fastest to rank up and D being the slowest (see here for the exact modifiers). The inheritor of a class (see below) is always rank S, and the other party members are generally spread somewhat evenly across the other ranks.
Unlocking classes[edit]
When a class is first made available to the main party members in the main game, typically at the end of the relevant Hero's first Hero Quest, it is initially only available to one member called the "inheritor". Other characters may then unlock that class by defeating enemies while a character who uses that class (who may be the Hero, original inheritor, or other party member) is in the active party.
Each character (besides the originator and the inheritor) needs a certain number of "Class Succession Points" (distinct from Class Points) to unlock each class. The number of Class Succession Points obtained from each enemy is as follows:[1]
earnt Class Succession Points = enemyCPmultiplier * overkillModifier * levelModifier * (100 * heroIndicator + 50 * classPCnumber)
where:
enemyCPmultiplieris an enemy-specific value that indicates how many times more Class Points an enemy grants than the average enemy of its level (ignoring the elite monster bonus and any effects of cooking);overkillModifieris the multiplier from Overkill, if applicable;levelModifieris a multiplier based upon the difference in level between the party member and the enemy;heroIndicatoris 1 if the active Hero is of the relevant class, and 0 otherwise;ClassPCnumberis equal to the number of playable characters (not counting the Hero) who are currently using the applicable class.
It is worth noting that levelModifier is 0 for enemies 6 or more levels below the party member. That is, enemies 6+ levels below do not contribute to unlocking classes.
Alternatively, classes can be unlocked at the Class Mastery Shop Red and Class Mastery Shop Blue in the Land of Challenge: spending 2000 Red Noponstone or Blue Noponstone respectively gives Class Succession Points equal to a quarter of the total required to unlock the Class, for each Class which is unlockable but not yet unlocked.
Additionally, between 100 and 1000 Class Succession Points can be obtained from scanning amiibos. For an explanation about the amiibo reward probabilities see amiibo § Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
Roles[edit]
- "Role (XC3)" redirects here. For the concept in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, see Role (XC2).
A class's role — Attacker, Defender, or Healer — has several gameplay effects. Besides providing a broad indicator of a class's strengths and weaknesses, the role determines what actions count as Role Actions: special actions that charge a character's Talent Art. For a full list of Role Actions available to each Role, see the pages for Attacker, Defender, and Healer respectively.
Other effects of roles include (but are not limited to):
- The role of each directly-controllable character determines their role effect in Chain Attacks.
- Certain aggro-related effects, such as the Burst aggro changes, target Defenders differently to Attackers and Healers.
- Only Healers can revive characters from incapacitation by default.
- When characters enter Ouroboros form at Interlink Level 1 or higher, an effect is activated that depends on the current role of the character whom the Ouroboros form belongs to: dealing damage to all enemies if an Attacker, increasing initial aggro if a Defender, and healing all allies if a Healer.
- Certain Emblems in the Archsage's Gauntlet are dependent upon the number of characters with a certain role in the party.
