Citrine is an antagonist in the Xenosaga series. She is a U.R.T.V. variant who sided with the Salvator Faction.

Citrine's genetic make-up was based on Dmitri Yuriev, like the other U.R.T.V.s. However, she was modified to be born as a female. As a result, she looked identical to the other standard female type U.R.T.V.s as a child, only having a unique orange hair color and eye color which is a mixture of amber and teal. During flashbacks in Xenosaga Episode II, she is seen wearing the standard female type U.R.T.V. uniform as well.

When she is seen again in Xenosaga Episode III, she has noticeably matured in appearance and is wearing a brand-new uniform that signifies her alignment with the Salvator Faction. Her new outfit is composed of a primarily purple and white vest, black tights and purple boots. She is also seen wielding a rod in combat.

As a child at the Yuriev Institute, she seems detached from her emotions, not seeing a problem in referring to the deaths of her siblings as "disposals" and failing to understand why Rubedo would be upset at the remark. According to Citrine, this is the logical stance to have as she believes her and her siblings are "not normal children", showing she has internalized the fact that she is a weapon, a tool, from a very early age. Regardless, she also has an air of superiority about her, as she believes that it's a shame that female types are rarer since she believes them to be superior.

Like Rubedo, she was the leader of the female U.R.T.V.s. Her responsible, serious attitude could be attributed to this fact. She is also said to be similar to Rubedo with her tendency to "never sit still" as noted by the NPC Liliya in Episode II.

Citrine's strong belief in her purpose of being a tool to further her father's goal is carried unto her appearances in Xenosaga Episode III.

Story arc[edit]

Citrine is U.R.T.V. unit 668. She is the only female among the U.R.T.V. variants. As children, she introduces herself to Rubedo, Nigredo, and Albedo at the Yuriev Institute. They are surprised, having though the missing number in their sequence was dead. She claims the X-type females like herself are theoretically superior, causing Rubedo to become frustrated with her. In a later sequence she speaks with Nigredo alone, claiming their duty is to manage and subdue the violent nature of Rubedo, whom she calls the Red Dragon.

She was given the ability to function as a failsafe in the event that URTV unit number 666, Rubedo, went out of control. Genetically XX--that is to say female--her physical capabilities are identical to those of her male counterpart, Nigredo, as a result of Salvator's genetic modification technology. They differ only in that she does not also function as a host for Dmitri.
