Auto-attacks are the most basic and, often, the weakest attacks in the combat of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Future Redeemed. They are used when a character is within range of their target and not otherwise acting via attacks or movement.

Auto-attacks are the main means of recharging auto-attack-recharge Battle Arts, most commonly seen as the Class Arts of Agnian Classes.

Party member auto-attack animations and damage types are set by the main weapon of the character's current Class. Due to a bug, only Mwamba's weapon uses ether-type auto-attacks in the main game among non-Ouroboros weapons; Future Redeemed and Ouroboros auto-attacks, on the other hand, are more reasonably split between physical and ether. Auto-attacks can be canceled into any Battle Art (including Talent Arts) or Quick Move. Weapons can have multiple auto-attack animations; if this is the case, the animation for each auto-attack is (seemingly) chosen at random among the animations, although (seemingly) with a preference for an animation which was not used for the previous auto-attack.

Auto-attacks are the only attack which can be used in the first battle against the Agnus Attackers in Chapter 1.

The Power Multiplier of party member auto-attacks is:

When the player-controlled character can auto-attack due to their target being in range, an icon of a sword in a circular arrow appears on the UI. This sword-in-arrow icon is used more generally to indicate auto-attacks in, for example, Skills which improve auto-attacks (e.g. Flashing Punch).

Enemy auto-attacks are handled as unnamed enemy Arts; as such, they have varying damage types, power multipliers, and hitframes. Not all enemies have auto-attacks.
