amiibo
amiibo are a series of "toys to life" based on characters from Nintendo franchises. Games can choose to do various things when an amiibo is scanned via NFC, such as having the depicted character appear or awarding some other bonus.
The first Xenoblade Chronicles-related amiibo to be released is the Shulk amiibo, released as a part of Wave 4 of the Super Smash Bros. series of amiibo on 1 February 2015 (which started as a GameStop/EB Games exclusive in North America). Super Smash Bros. series amiibo for Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 were released on 21 July 2023. Noah and Mio amiibo, part of their own Xenoblade Chronicles series, were released on 19 January 2024.
List of amiibo[edit]
Use in the Xeno- series[edit]
Xenoblade Chronicles 3D[edit]
Using a Shulk amiibo in the 3DS port of Xenoblade Chronicles once per day in Collection Mode gives the player three tokens, which can be used to unlock model viewer and jukebox entries.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3[edit]
Using a Shulk, Pyra, or Mythra amiibo for the first time unlocks a skin of the respective character's weapon for the Swordfighter class. These can also be unlocked by non-amiibo means: Shulk's by clearing the game, Pyra's by getting all classes to rank 20, and Mythra's by Uniting the Seven Nopon and upgrading all the party's Blades.
Using a Noah amiibo unlocks Consul N's outfit for Noah and "Leisure Time" outfits for Noah, Eunie, and Lanz, while using a Mio amiibo unlocks Consul M's outfit for Mio and "Leisure Time" outfits for Mio, Taion, and Sena. These can also be unlocked by non-amiibo means: For the Kevesi clothing, 7 Nopon Seven-Star Medals must be exchanged to Miibomii. These medals can be purchased at the Nopon Coin X-change for 77 Gold Nopon Coins, meaning a total of 539 Gold Nopon Medals must be obtained. For the Agnian clothing, Miibomii will give the clothing for free after Seraphic Ceratinia has been defeated at level 150.
Any non-Xenoblade amiibo can be scanned three times a day to receive bonuses. The game determines the reward through a two-step process:
1. First roll – Reward type:
The game first selects the category of the reward, based on the following probabilities:
- Collectibles - 57% of probabilities
Nopon Coin (Gold) - 7% of probabilities
Nopon Coin (Silver) - 9% of probabilities- Bonus EXP - 9% of probabilities
- Class Succession Points - 9% of probabilities
- Class Points - 9% of probabilities
2. Second roll – Specific outcome within that category:
Once the reward type is chosen, the game makes a second roll to decide the exact outcome according to fixed rates shown in the tables. For Bonus EXP, Class Succession Points, and Class Points, the game decides how many points you receive. For Nopon Coins, the game decides how many coins you get. If the chosen reward is Collectibles, the game randomly selects one of the 21 collectible sets. Once a collectible set is chosen, all the items from that set, in the specified quantities, will appear in front of the player-controlled character when the menu is closed. The specific distribution of sets is unknown, but it is assumed to be random.
Use in other games[edit]
The following list includes only games that have unique behaviour for amiibo in the Xeno series. Games that treat such amiibo as being in a "generic" or "other" category are not listed.
Chibi-Robo!: Zip Lash[edit]
Using a Shulk amiibo in Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash unlocks a Mega Rare statue of Chibi Robo mimicking Shulk's pose. Its description is "When the Monado granted this young man the power to see the future, he knew not to use such a gift for selfish ends and instead used it to protect his friends and homeland."
Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]
Using a Shulk amiibo in Kirby: Planet Robobot gives Kirby the ESP ability.
Super Mario Maker[edit]
Using a Shulk amiibo in Super Mario Maker for the Wii U unlocks a Shulk costume for the Mystery Mushroom. It uses Shulk's voice clips from the Japanese version, voiced by Shintarō Asanuma. He exclaims やってやるさ! ("I'll do this!") upon touching the Mystery Mushroom, and pressing up on the D-Pad makes him pull out the Monado and face the screen. The "Course Clear" fanfare is replaced by Secret Area Discovered.
Super Smash Bros. 4 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]
Using a Shulk amiibo in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, for Wii U, or Ultimate brings a Shulk FP (figure player) into the game, which can fight alongside or against the player to have it learn techniques, gain experience, and be customized. Using a Pyra or Mythra amiibo in SSBU does the same.
(Poochy &) Yoshi's Woolly World[edit]
Using a Shulk amiibo in Yoshi's Woolly World or Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World unlocks a Shulk pattern for Yoshi.
Trivia[edit]
- The pedestal of Noah's and Mio's amiibo (which are the only amiibo part of the Xenoblade Chronicles line of amiibo) show an "X". That X is directly taken from the "X" of the Xenoblade Chronicles 1/Definitive Edition logo, as opposed to from the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 logo.
