Alexandria (ニイナ), also known as Dame Alex is a Hero in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. She is the commander of Colony Iota. She is also known as Craftmaiden Alexandria.
Appearance and personality[edit]
Alexandria is a young woman with brown hair tied within a bun. She has a long bang falling on the right side of her face and a little bang falling on the left side of her face, and she has green eyes. She wears a crown that slightly covers her forehead and stands out beyond her hair. Alexandria wears a white coat and an armored corset with black tights and high-heel boots. Alexandria has a blue diamond-shaped core on her chest. In battle, Alexandria wields the Exponential Edge.
As the commander of Colony Iota, she is an incredibly talented warrior due to her skillful swordsmanship and strategies. Even so, she has a good reputation in Agnus and is considered a good rival in Keves.
Alexandria has a cunning personality, and doesn't shy away from extreme strategies and calculated sacrifices to achieve efficiency and victory. Skeptical, she also struggles with trust issues, causing her to often refuse help from others, and to appear particularly cold sometimes. She slowly comes to get over them with time and help from the party.
Story arc[edit]
Her Reasons[edit]
Alexandria is first encountered at Dies Arch, where she ambushes the party. She pierces their defenses and takes the upper hand on Noah, shoving him to the ground. Joined by her commando leaders, Rhyza, Chelle, Fili and Sequoia, she tests the party's fighting skills and analyses their combat styles. She notes Taion's caution dulls his insights, Sena's crude fighting wastes her potential, and Noah has a good judgment but is a bad quitter. After a while, the Iota troops pull back and Alexandria watches the party from the top of the rock arch. When the party escapes, she doesn't give chase them, but swears to take their lives.
The party decides to take the fight to her instead of waiting to be hunted down by her commando squads, and confronts her in Colony Iota. They eventually defeat her, and Consul E appears, expressing his disappointment in his "cherished game piece", Alexandria. The commander of Colony Iota watches as the party defeat the Consul, then thank them, and reveal her attack on Ouroboros was a test to see if they were powerful enough to help her defeat the Consul, and to drag them into that fight. Taion disapproves of her strategy, pointing out the sacrifices she made to reach that point may not have been necessary. She retorts her methods were faster, and that victory requires sacrifice. Noticing the rift between Alexandria and the party, Chickadee intervenes and offers them to look around the colony to see for themselves how things are here.
The party follow Alexandria to a vantage point from where they can observe Colony Iota soldiers at work. She explains that they read the flow of goods to learn of the war, using the Collectopaedia Cards she helped develop by submitting the idea to the Castle. Taion realizes that despite their differences in methods, he and Alexandria are similar in that they seek conditions they can be confident in to fight. He points out that something must have changed Alexandria to be the way she is today, and she replies he can thank the old commander for that, but doesn't elaborate. Convinced by the way she tries to protect her colony, Noah accepts to help her. Alexandria asks him if he thinks Colony Iota can be useful, but to her surprise, he tells her it doesn't matter, for he doesn't see people that way. They all head for the Colony Iota Ferronis, where Alexandria reluctantly reveals she is in her sixth term and that it is kept a secret from everyone but her team chiefs and Chickadee, before Noah destroys the Flame Clock.
Pre-ascension sidequests[edit]
- Alexandria is required to be in the party for the quest Enemies and Allies.
To prove her good intentions to the party, Alexandria decides to grant them the ability to distribute as they will about half of Colony Iota's resources to colonies who might need it. She leads them to Colony Iota's "heart", the storehouse where they keep most of their goods. They meet with Chelle, who is in charge of managing these resources, and she teaches the party how to use the Collectopaedia Card system to distribute them.
- Alexandria is involved in the quest Scant Supplies.
Following the distribution of Colony Iota Goods to other colonies, supplies are running low. Worried, the party comes to discuss Goods in Storage with Alexandria, who accepts their help and redirect them to Chelle. Alexandria can then play a minor role in the quest if she stays in the party, until she is taken away by Gambert to discuss the research labs.
Inescapable Past[edit]
Gambert is trying to convince Chickadee to talk with Alexandria about something, when the commander notices them and joins in. Gambert explains that he wants to hold a tech summit with Colony 30 to exchange technology knowledge. Despite having a grudge against Colony 30 since they crushed Colony Iota in battle in the past, Alexandria accepts, arguing that Colony 30 is unique and thus worth studying. She heads for Colony 30 with Gambert and the party, where she barely hides her hostility as Valdi welcomes them and shows them around. At Gambert and Alexandria's request, he shows them one of his latest creation, an Armadillo Levnis he brought to the colony and modified to not differentiate foes and allies, naming her "Robobuddy". However, Robobuddy soon attacks the colony, forcing the party to stop her. At Noah's request, Alexandria checks Colony 30's Collectopaedia Cards, revealing that someone has been using Robobuddy to gather poisonous rare materials. Gambert analyses Robobuddy's logs to trace the culprit, and Alexandria and the party go after them while Valdi stays in Colony 30 to protect it.
They follow the trail up to the Old Kana Battlefield. An Armadillo similar to Robobuddy suddenly appears behind them, chasing them to the edge of a cliff. Cornered, they turn to face it when a laugh echoes and Consul Q appears. While he's gloating, Alexandria attacks him from the side, cutting him off. Consul Q turns his attention to her and fires at her with the Armadillo. The shot hits Alexandria, poisoning her and momentarily locking her in place. Consul Q explains how his plan was to poison the water supply to force soldiers to fight for water resources, then decides to drop that plan to have fun with Alexandria by recreating her "act of betrayal" as he reveals how Alexandria assassinated the previous Colony Iota Commander by poisoning him, staging his death in battle with the help of Rhyza, Chelle, Fili and Sequoia. Alexandria retorts that she regrets nothing, for that commander was a tyrant slowly bringing the colony to its collapse. She claims she isn't asking people to trust, understanding how her past action may break that trust. But as she is cornered by Q and his Levnises, Taion and the others jump to her rescue, and Taion affirms that he chooses to trust her anyway. Together, they fight Moebius Q, until his attacks shove Alexandria off the edge of the cliff. Noah catches her as she falls, leaving himself vulnerable to Q's attacks. Alexandria tells him to let her go and save his life, but Noah smiles at her, reminding her that she was counting on them. Lanz intercepts Moebius Q as he approaches Noah, distracting him long enough for Noah to pull Alexandria up to safety before unsheathing Lucky Seven and killing Q. The display of trust between them leaves Alexandria baffled, but she eventually thanks the party for trusting her, and admits they are worthy of trust.
They all head back to Colony 30, where Valdi and Gambert are waiting for their return. Gambert prepares to ask permission from his commander to stay in Colony 30, but Alexandria anticipates his request and offers Valdi to trade mechanics. Valdi agrees to send Jill to Colony Iota and takes Gambert to meet everyone in the colony. The party promises Alexandria to not tell anyone about what Consul Q revealed about her past, but warns her to not do anything like that again and ask them for help instead, should the need ever arise. Shaken by their open friendship, Alexandria thanks Noah for saving her life, hesitantly learning to lower her guard and open herself up to others.
Post-ascension sidequests[edit]
- Alexandria is required to be in the party for the quest Alexandria's Birthday.
As rumors about Alexandria's upcoming birthday float around Colony Iota, the party asks her about it. She reveals that birthday is a fake one, invented to hide her real birthday - and thus the day of her Homecoming. The discussion makes Alexandria realize this lie now brings more problems than solutions, and she decides to seek out Chickadee to talk about a way to change that. But Chickadee is nowhere to be found and doesn't answer to Iris calls. Alexandria and the party search for her, eventually finding her at Yunnae's Rise, where she had been gathering White Millica flowers for Alexandria's birthday, their symbolism of "revealing secrets" fitting her growth and decision to finally open up to others. Alexandria illustrates that symbolism by revealing to Chickadee what happens to the previous commander, and asking her to reveal her real birthday and age to the entire colony.
Other Appearances[edit]
Alexandria makes a brief appearance in the side quest, The Final Cog, where she, Isurd, Shinoh, soldiers and Nopons from Colony 30, watch Dorrick finally be completed. After defeating Dorrick that was manipulated by Pulipuli, she confronts Pulipuli before he can escape.
Alexandria can be among the recruited Heroes to aid the party in the final battle against Z, remarking to the party that it is rude to leave her behind as she is summoned. After Z's defeat, Alexandria can be seen on the Agnian side as Aionios splits back into the two worlds it was created from.
Lore[edit]
- Alexandria often puts up cosmetics and makeup to look older to hide her real age.
- Alexandria helped with the creation of the Collectopaedia Cards.
- Consul E taught her about poisons. [1]
- She used that knowledge to assassinate her previous commander and make it look like he was killed in battle, with the complicity of Rhyza, Chelle, Fili and Sequoia.
- Alexandria is of the same term as Sequoia, though slightly younger, as Alexandria is officially in her 6th term during the game while Sequoia is in her 7th. [2]
