A.G.W.S.

Several A.G.W.S.s onboard the Woglinde.

A.G.W.S., short for Anti-Gnosis Weapon System, are manned mobile weapons from the Xenosaga series. As the name implies, A.G.W.S. units are deployed as a measure to combat the Gnosis phenomenon. As such, they are designed at a smaller scale than their multi-purpose counterpart, the A.M.W.S. units, at about 4-5 meters tall to account for the Gnosis' range of mobility. Additionally, each A.G.W.S. unit is equipped with a D.S.S.S. sensor.

As a tradeoff to their size, they cannot be fitted with internal engines, much less a Vessel of Anima. However, thanks to the transmit generator within each A.G.W.S., the crafts themselves are able to function indefinitely, as long as the power source their transmit generators are connected to is still functional. Unfortunately, as a result of this design, A.G.W.S. can only be piloted within a limited range.

Known A.G.W.S. types[edit]

AG-Series
The AG Series, developed by Hyams Heavy Industries, is the type provided to the Galaxy Federation military. AG series models are characterized by a large cylinder at their chassis' midsection for rotating the torso separately from their legs. All AG Series models have their D.S.S.S. sensors located on their chassis' chest.
AG-01 The AG-01 is the base form of the AG series. It has a basic, humanoid silhouette and cylindrical propulsion mechanisms located at the back of its waist. It is the most commonly seen A.G.W.S..

AG-02 The AG-02 has a similar silhouette to the AG-01, save for the singular horn-like protrusion on its head and the wing-like propulsion mechanism on its upper back. It is chaos's default A.G.W.S.. During the Woglinde disaster, Virgil pilots an AG-02, but it is abandoned after KOS-MOS saves him and Shion.

AG-03 The AG-03 has a more muscular frame compared to the previous two iterations. Its horn is longer than the AG-02's and its propulsion mechanism is now located at the back of its legs.

AG-04 The AG-04 differs from the base model of the AG Series in its limbs mainly. Its arms are notably larger and its legs are now equipped with wheels.

AG-05 The AG-05 is notable for its bulky frame. Its legs, arms, and head are all sized up substantially from previous iterations of the AG Series.

VX-Series
The VX Series, developed by Vector Industries, is typically manufactured for consumer use. As such, they are the models employed by the Kukai Foundation. In contrast to the AG Series, they are characterized by their angular frames. All VX Series models have their D.S.S.S. sensors located on their waist.
VX-4000 The VX-4000 has a slim, blueish-purple frame and four arms. Its head shape is triangular and has two protrusions that resemble cat ears.

VX-7000 The VX-7000 has a slim, bright blue frame and a more curved head shape than the other VX Series models. It is Jr.'s default A.G.W.S.

VX-9000 The VX-9000 has a medium-sized, white frame. Similarly to the VX-4000, it also has a triangular head shape with protrusions that resemble cat ears. A soldier from the Kukai Foundation utilizes this A.G.W.S. during the raid on the U-TIC Mothership.

VX-10000 The VX-10000 has a slim, red frame. It is Shion's default A.G.W.S..

VX-20000 The VX-20000 has a large, bulky, pink chassis. Mary Godwin pilots this A.G.W.S. during the raid on the U-TIC Mothership.

Other A.G.W.S. types[edit]

  • In addition to the AG Series, Hyams is also secretly responsible for the manufacture of Ormus' A.G.W.S. units, most commonly seen deployed by the U-TIC Organization. This includes variations of Mercurio units, Zolfo units, and Ambix.
  • A simulated A.G.W.S. modeled after the AG Series called Drone SPX can be fought on board the Woglinde at the beginning of Xenosaga Episode I.

As a party member[edit]

Certain party members can call upon several A.G.W.S. to aid them in battle.

Database[edit]

Episode I

A.G.W.S.

Short for "Anti-Gnosis Weapon System."

A name used to describe all weapons systems designed to fight the Gnosis, not all of which come in humanoid forms. The A.G.W.S. were substantially downscaled in size to better respond to the Gnosis' sudden attacks, and are roughly equivalent in weight to a large automobile.

Their primary power source, called the Transmit Generator, does not contain any fuel or energy-conversion device; all energy is transmitted directly to these generators from the mother ship or base station. Thus, the term "generator" is not appropriate for these systems. Similarly the propellants used by the A.G.W.S. for locomotion are also continuously provided by the mother ship or base, so A.G.W.S. can in effect run indefinitely as long as they remain within the area of influence.

Episode III

A.G.W.S.

A type of weapon developed for anti-Gnosis combat.

Short for "Anti-Gnosis Weapon System." Pronounced like "eggs."

A piloted vehicle, not necessarily limited to humanoid form. In order to combat the intangible Gnosis, A.G.W.S.s designed for many different combat situations are being developed.

The main engine is a transfer generator; all energy is directly transferred from the mothership or mother unit. For this reason, each unit can operate for an unlimited amount of time.

The model currently being mass-produced for the army and the U-TIC Organization is the AG Series from Hyams Heavy Industries; however, the specs of Vector Industries' VX Series not only exceed those of the AG Series, but the craft are also aimed toward the consumer market, and are currently being tested within governmental special forces and limited parts of the Army.

Though these are provided to the Federation Army, the base frame structures, transmitters, condensers, drivers, and control processors are mostly the same parts found in the A.G.W.S.s used by Ormus. Its design permits modules to be swapped in order to adapt to various types of combat.

A.G.W.S.
